Copperrein's Summer 2021 Outdoor Soil Grow

@SmokingWings made me aware of what is apparently the largest walk-in seed bank in the US, Seed Cellar! It's 30 minutes away! Ahhhhh! Myself and my friend promised ourselves a fieldtrip once the fireworks season was done. We've been talking about this since I heard of the place. We're both big goofy kids on christmas right now. (insert more excited screaming here)
Ran into problems in the basement grow room. Most plants ended up outside but a few were left in the tent to finish flowering. So, now that room is going to be redone. I have added a bulb replacement project for the T5s in the vegetating closet. Culled the outside plants and have started taking cuttings off of the survivors. I have been falling way behind on the outdoor veg and flower garden beds but have been getting those back on schedule over the past several weeks.

The 15th of August is the date I use for the start of flowering so August 10th is the planned date for finishing the basement room. The better looking clones will go through an isolation phase and be treated for mildews and insects and taken to a staging area for a week or so before going into the room. Have already selected several of the larger clones for locating in stealth areas to flower outside with harvesting by the end of October.

My daughter has been talking about a one day road-trip to just about anywhere in the lower half of the lower but other stuff keeps coming up. A 2 week kitchen project is now on its 8th week and has extended into the dining room. The hallways to the backdoor and basement are next.

Was the shop open for walk-in or were they still on some sort of "curb-side service only" policy left over from Covid?

Oh no...what happened to the outdoor plants you culled? Why did you have to cull them? I'm so sorry.

They were open for walk-ins. The staff was so awesome. I didn't feel like they were trying to upsell me, in fact when I asked for Trainwreck Carmen, my sales associate, made me aware of the pretty decent price difference between the Humboldt seeds and the 20Twenty seeds. She also gave me a sweet clipper, bag, and a fist full of stickers.

Speaking of outdoor stealth grows in Michigan, some neighbors up the way are growing 12 plants right by the road. No fence. No visual barrier. I feel like something so blatantly against the rules could make life shit for the rest of us in the future. A kid could walk up and just take a plant. They're also Trumpers so a big part of me is like 'Fuck you, republican...you voted against legalization'.

Am I being a Karen for being a little pissed off about their grow? FFS we get TWELVE plants. That's such a huge privilege. I don't want that taken away.

Act like you are avoiding a deer in the road and run over the plants. Maybe they will move them then? Not to be an arse but folks like that are why we can’t have nice things!

Am I being a Karen?

LOLLLLLLLLINGGGGGGGGGGG

That is the winning 420 question for me today.

OMG that has sooooooo tickled me.

What happened to them? I threw them into one of those yard waste bags and had the rubbish company pick it up on trash day so it could be sent to the great compost farm in the sky.:)

The fuller version of what was happening is that I noticed several problems showing up in late winter and by April I knew there was trouble. One of the problems looked like Russet or Hemp mites but a strict routine of spraying with Neem did nothing. Spraying with Nuke 'Em did nothing pretty much eliminating common insects as being the cause. Next I followed the instructions and dosed them with a sulpher spray. Nothing changed. Plants just did not look right.

Since I had wanted to re-arrange the room, get rid of the old 'flowering cabinet' and move the 'flowering tent' around I figured the time was this summer. I moved everything that was not in the 'flowering tent' outside to let Mother Nature get the opportunity to figure out what was wrong. Any plant that did not show signs of recovering was put in that big yard waste bag since I did not want it being composted here until I knew that the problem was not a Tobacco Mosiac Virus or similar.

Plants that recovered started growing normally again with healthy looking leaves. The old damage did not go away or even show signs of improvement. My plans are to save the Blue Dream and the Girl Scout Cookies strain and bring in just clones by mid August. Clones are easier to work with as far as moving them around and handling for pest inspection and spray treatments. A couple of the current survivors are large enough that if I leave them outside till frost it should be worth my time.

Oh man, that's scary. When I burned mine with chili spray I thought it was a mosaic virus. Read up on them and NOPE. That would suck.

Oh happy days! My one dog's asshole was a pitch for a little game of tapeworm soccer this morning. I swear to god something happened in the orbits of the planets because it's just one minor catastrophe after another here. Butt meds are ordered. I suspect she got them while eating baby rabbits or raccoon shit. The other dogs aren't gross like her. We call her Smeagol.

Anyhoo, after I sterilized my body and eyes I wandered out into the garden. More rain has resulted in more growth and I am again feeling like I'm neglecting them. Thankfully my man's medication roller coaster has leveled off and he's functioning and helping me with chores this morning. Still lots of internal screaming but I found a jar of old pink kush and will make a point of it to actually sit down and try to relax tonight.

DDA is just doing DDA things. Is this what autos are about? Speed and ease? IT'S WEIRD. Her colors are starting to come in and I hope she gets super dark.

Ok, after the fall harvest I'll start a perpetual journal for stuff like this:

I suck at cloning:

Aaaaaand @Mars Hydro sponsored me with an SP3000. I turned the light on last night and holy shit...but me and my man were seeing spots for a hot minute. This light will be growing my "Weed Weirdos", Freakshow and Grinspoon in my 2x4.

I already love this light. It's so bright and I love the red/warm slant to its LED mix. Woot!
