Copperrein's Summer 2021 Outdoor Soil Grow

Speaking of surviving; another pop-up storm from the north came through. There wasn't a real line of storms. We have this slow and expansive clamshell-looking rotation above us right now in the midwest and it's just causing really unpredictable and intense shit.

I really thought I was going to loose a couple plants. I at first glance have not. The coldframe I built years ago didn't fare so well:

Honestly I'm not surprised. That glass was at about 100 years of age and had lived in that old door frame for all of it. I can replace it with polycarb or acrylic. I think I need polycarb because of UV rays breaking acrylic down faster? Maybe I have that reversed.

Ladies all seem fine. I don't have pants on yet so I didn't stay long :D

The last photo is from last night. I also got video but have fuckered my youtube somehow. It now wants be to make a mini movie or some shit. I dunno.

@BooWho2 @StoneOtter :green_heart: :thanks:
I thought I had really messed up when I saw the tag from Renee early this morning.

Finally unscrewed my YT. I put music over the video because I was standing under a steel roof and my tablet mic turned it into just horrible, speaker-crackling, static.

Thank you everyone that follows my postings! There is a little positive feedback reinforcement when I see the little red number over that bell top right.

There was some wind damage on my outdoor girls...odd though most of it was on Gelat.OG 1 who has the greatest wind protection where she is.

If you've followed this journal you know I put these girls out a month early. They've all been affected by frost and high winds...the wind here is near constant. I shared some of those damage photos elsewhere and I was impressed by how quickly people assume pests...even if you tell them 'I tried to kill this plant with a winter storm'. 'Nah, you got tobacco hornworms, fam' Really?

I found a leaf with a barely-attached bit that if it had no longer been there, would look like a little squishy boi had had a nibble:

Aaaaand this is new to me: some of my plants aren't growing pairs of nodes anymore. Wtf? How do I top now? Did I stress them?

Is this just what happens when you let them grow somewhat normally?

Am I a fucking moron and missed something major first day of class?

First is a normally opposed and topped stem. Second is this strange zigzag grow shape:

Edit: What does tacoing mean again and are my plants tacoing?

Hehe, seeds grow node pairs until they reach a point, then they alternate. Clones are always alternating. Treat it the same (pretty much).
Tacoing looks like your plant in pic. Too hot can do it. Maybe more.
So topping doesn't affect the node placement? Is it based on age of plant or?

I googled the tacoing...it's prolly the humidity combined with a sudden drop in temp this week. ALSO...I think I may know one of the things that keeps me pest free...look at my photos: I rarely mow around my plants. There's tons of weeds protecting my weed.

Why would buggos go for the plant covered in hot sauce when they've got an entire selection of natural untouched realestate :D ?

I watered last night. They're quickly becoming daily waterers. I sent Cannabis Irrigation Supply an email but haven't had time to sit down and see what options they have. Perhaps I shall do it right now.

Girls are happy...if I grow soil again next year someone remind me to get bigger bags please.

Congratulations, you now have young teenager plants. Before long they will want to explore their new sexuality and like 'puppy dog love' any male in the area will figure out how to get to the young females in your yard.

The plant starts to do the alternating nodes as it becomes sexually mature. At first the nodes are just barely offset like in your photo. You should be able to notice that the plant is switching over from producing two new nodes and stems to producing one at a time. Right now the node on one side is maybe a 1/8th above the other one. Each new node will start to be higher up and a fast growing plant can have the next node be as much as several inches above the previous node.

Keep watching and you will also see that the nodes are no longer opposite each other. The new node will only be about 1/3 of the way around the stem, and the next one is another 1/3 of the way and the next one another 1/3 of the way. The nodes are starting to spiral and it usually takes 3 of the them to circle the stem. This is about the time I figure that the plant is totally sexually mature and would be ready to put into flowering if I wanted to.

I am dismantling and going to redesign my grow room so I have almost all my remaining plants outside. Several are in a re-vegatating stage and I went to check something. A couple of them are dropping out of an early flowering stage and some are showing those leaves often associated with early revegating but they have stopped the spiral pattern. The new nodes are still one higher up than the previous but pretty much opposite.

Have fun with your teenage plants.;)

Great info Wings!

That's fucking great info. (PS still haven't had time to get down to the seed store)

And you're 100% right...I found the first preflowers this morning. The last two summers I grew I was either depressed or my partner was depressed so I didn't get as much time in the garden as I should have.

So far this year I've been able to observe the girls a buttload more.

BUT FIRST!

Sparks the Starling wants to scream at everyone

Ok team....remind me I need to buy larger grow bags next year:

I should prolly do my final defol today (not working the tent). I'm starting to see the lower leaves yellowing. DDA is getting ready to explode. Am excite.

Or put them in holes in the ground. ;) Two years or so ago I had the chance to grow several plants in with someone's medical grow. If memory serves it took till about this time of season to find the time to drive there. My plants (clones) were about 12 inches high when we went up there and by mid-August they were 6 to 8 feet tall. She experimented in putting some of her own plants in 5 to 7 gallon pots and felt those were a bit more manageable and they still grew to about 5-6 feet.

Last year she talked about going with everything being in pots and I just donated some extra clones. No real clue as to how well those plants grew. Last I talked to her she was retiring from growing so had no plans for this year.
I should prolly do my final defol today
Good luck and have fun with that. You might be able to make tea or something with the leaves if you have time.

I found the first preflowers this morning.
I have noticed that some of the female plants show the pre-flower pistils as they become sexually mature and some strains do not. For those it takes growing a clone and putting it into a 12 plus dark cycle. But if your plants are all feminized then you should be good to go.

Yussss! I did a light lollipopping Thursday on a few of the girls. They responded very well!

LSD is suffering from something. She is still tacoing. No one else is. She's fed and watered. Temps are normal and humidity is high. I'm at a loss.

The mites are gone. I mixed up a new batch of my bug repellent stuff, with an addition of habaneros I grew, and hit all the plants a few days back. I also only managed to rub my eyes once during the process. Yes, I know what gloves are and how to use them.

I don't even know what to say about this but hey...have a slice of a normal day selling fireworks:

The girls look great Copper! I don't know about the canoe. Is the air really dry? Stella starling is a cool rescue!
Thank you and no, totally the opposite. We're so humid this year. Whatever it is, I'm not sure I could do much to help the plant aside from toss her in a tent and I don't have a spare at the moment :D

Michigan wasn't like this when I was a kid:

The air this morning was the same air as when I lived in Virginia...all dense and loamy and able to be felt as a near-solid thing. Tepid visceral air. I dunno...I'm pre coffee.

LOOK HOW CUTE DDA IS!

Look at her perfect little collection of leaf serration droplets! She's such a little princess :green_heart:
