Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed Stock

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

Oh I get Cali soil, believe me. Rockis impossible to work if you don't want to go with heavy gear. Well that leaves you with 300 gal pots :)

Beautiful update Conrad. Great and happy looking plants! Thanks .

You're lucky they don't need caging - I take it there's no weed munching critters in the area .. Myself, I'm devising simple caging systems in my mind in prep for spring here ..

The deer in Massachusetts were so hungry, they ate 1 foot plants overnight.

Yeah weasels and foxes, some rabbits mostly. Nothing that could hurt the plant anyway. Much more insects though, I have a whole wonderland of small, medium and big ones. I always had impression that they caged plants for support not to protect plants from the critters, but maybe if you use tighter mesh it'll work too. Anyway here it's not necessary for animals. I could sure use some support for the bigger plants to stretch them out a little bit, but that might not happen very soon :smokin:

I'm surprised the rabbits are more of an issue. Lem lost a few branches/ounces to rabbits last month. I always assumed rabbits was why he started them indoors and kept some of his veg plants in a treehouse.

Cannafan lost some young seedlings to chipmunks, but I figure squirrels and chipmunks mostly bother the small ones.

However it works, I'm glad it works for you!

Hey conrad, the garden looks great. Sensi Star looks good, I bet that smokes well. In answer to your Q about measuring brix, no I don't have that capability yet, but perhaps next year. I've set up a small indoor grow and fortunately my wife is tolerant to my new "growing" obsession.

I have some more soil cooking and likely take several clones in a couple of weeks to keep me occupied over the winter.

Yeah with deer running around it'd be impossible to grow weed here without some kind of fence, but fortunately all deer are farmed here :)

Make sure you actually monitor what happens to your plant and tweak your methods along the way. DBHB soil is a very good start, but you can always make it work better for you.

Hey Conrad, I know you are growing in true high brix soil and not Doc's kit but do you still do foliar spraying or don't you need to?

I just spray water and sometimes lactobacilli. I don't see a lot of need for heavy spraying in my grows.

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

I'd like to show you this Sensi Star by the end of flowering, I think it's gonna be her last week. I've never had more problems with a plant... for real. She had weird veg demands, she was very slow, she was getting stressed frequently (temps, RH, sun, soil) and she was easily stunted when transplanted. In flowering it was slightly better although she got burnt with a CAT drench and there were stressful 3 or 4 days afterwards. But she reacted well to diluted lithothamnium later on and to general temperature drop, which is why I'm gonna let her run full season next year, cause she just has to be flowered in right conditions and she has to have bigger root to cope with the environment.

But I have to say she grows very nice, chunky buds with good trichome coverage. She's slightly leafy, but I haven't tried the bud yet and it might be a surprise. Well like said she just has potential in yield department from what I see. Almost no fan leaves and she just keeps on packing. I also have some good things to say about the terpenes. She started with strong pine/fuel expression then went through tangerine/orange peel period to settle for overwhelmingly sweet strawberry body with pine and aniseed coating. But she also changes a lot throughout a day. Sweet stuff is very strongly expressed during sun hours while fuel/pine dominates after dark and it's constant. Not bad for a half-dead plant :smokin:

Looks about like my little J1 plant that I grew here. A real slow grower, fussy, only 2 feet tall at harvest. Similar looking plant, actually.

Does it have the reported high of, "renowned worldwide for its powerful full-body effects and subtle cerebral invigoration"?

Main reason I grow in a GH other than rain protection: deer predation. The deer come here on a daily basis. If I liked venison, which I do not, I could bag a deer a day here. I also have a lot of cottentail rabbits here, as well as squirrels and chipmunks. And bugs... I spray regularly with refined neem oil to keep them away. I also found a caterpillar munching away on my Durban Poison the other day. Also slugs, they will dine on Cannabis leaves and one slimy slug can eat a lot of leaf material pretty fast. So I use Deadline on the rims of the pots. Fortunately I do not have snails here like in California, or gophers.

Everything seems to like to dine on Cannabis. Especially mites!

Extremely fussy, but I managed to get a nice top on her in the end. We'll see about the effect, I hope it's gonna be something special.

I typically don't have lots of problem with pests or critters. Snails may be a problem, so I use copper clasps when I transplant, but this year they were practically invisible. I see practically every insect around my plant including grasshoppers, spiders, flies and borers, but only the last ones are a problem I'm forced to tackle head on with spraying, cause no other methods are effective. It's a terrible pest that unfortunately cannabis growers share with corn farmers and I saw some real damage on corn this year, so BT was sprayed recently on UDs that I know for a fact being attractive for these fuckers. However I never lose a lot of flower due to their activity. In the worst year it was maybe 5%, which is why I don't freak out when I find some drilling through the bud. Checking for eggs and picking by hand works too, but it's definitely better if you don't see them at all :)

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

So we had a very rainy weekend, it rained practically all day yesterday. This is rather good for the plants that really need this water in flowering. A lot of water = bigger yield. It should be clearing now, but weather forecast shows some more rain in few days. This is a real shift after such a dry summer, it's gonna be interesting to see how this affects the flowers.

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

Them F'ing worms suck. Funny I've grown afew places around the New Mexico, and Southern Ill and didn't see a one. Kind of lulled me into a false security. Then I move here and I didn't even think of spraying. Grew out a great crop outdoors. Came in on time and I did a bigger grow then I care to do anymore,, but I started hanging up some plants in the garage. Two days later,, little bastards were fast roping down off the plants and hitting the ground all over the place. Since I've been fogging my plants with Spinosad. I've heard it last a good while and you don't even have to coat both sides of the leaf, which is nice when you have alot of leaf to spray. I've heard BT works too. I have heard that some bugs are getting resistant to it,, even after the first spray. But that was a bud worm some Jap Beatle. But I spray mine once the 1st of Sept when most eggs have hatched and the work can eat some and have a nervous meltdown. I do like the way BT kills them, they eat it,, and it eats them from the stomach out. But I;ve had great results with that Captin Jacks shit. 2 spray for the last what 8 years and haven't had one since.

GL over Con, hope you get you water tables up and you have some good sunny weather. another week or so and you'll hope the rains stay away... Keepem Green My Friend.. Oh you seen where I explained what them Puppies I'm working with are.

Hey, my friend... Thought I'd give ya an update on your offspring.... Hey BTW when do I get the child support check??? JK But If ya remember,,, I looked at the #3 for my first up potting. She did stay shorter,, which I wanted, and I'm,,, duhhhh brain fart...... But anyways,,, no heads,no headaches............ But they are going to be tight... They took of with a bang and now are lagging. I juiced then acouple times this week should help kick them off. Still got a skecthy 4 weeks here... They are sure going to get close before the rains.... They might have to go in the 'Doghouse' the last week,,, along with acouple others.... Speaking of others,,, I got this Crippled Rino,,, She's been in my garden for 6-7 years and she hasn't hardly started flowering. One of them strains from Stoney Girl Gardens here in Portland.. And this has been a finisher for me all them years, Well hopefully this all points to a nice end Sept/early Oct. The 10th please..... Oh well,, all plants do what they should right? I like what they are doing.. Both are going to be smaller buds, which is comon as I kind of see with the strain from others. I got acouple pic's of them for ya.

Great looking plants and you're right about them, they're not a high yielder, but the smoke should be something special. However these colas will double in the following weeks, they might be slow in mid bloom, but last stretch is very fast... you're gonna see. They also have very good tolerance to cold and humid conditions, so I wouldn't necessarily put them inside unless you actually see mould and sunny time is over. Good job :thumb:

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

(snipped) But that was a bud worm some Jap Beatle. (rest snipped)

Japanese beetles are becoming a big problem in Oregon now. They arrived with the flotsam from the tsunami after the huge earthquake that rocked Japan and caused the Fukashima nuclear power plant meltdown. Tons of crap from Japan drifted out to sea, and washed up on shore along Oregon beaches. So now we have this new bug problem to deal with here. On top of dozens of other invasives already here. For Japanese beetles, spray with pyrethrin or neem at the first sign of attack.

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

I look at that and hope ya'll know I meant wasn't a worm, hard to hunt and peck in the dark... Besides these eyes are getting old. But yea I heard tale about them beatles,, all kinds of evasive shit popping off in the States. I haven't a clue what them beatle look like. Worse invasion I seen been them Hemp Mites from down Cali ways... I moved here from Missouri abit back,, and use to trip on them carp taking over the rivers. And you do need a football helmet on to go up river. Them fuckers are everywhere, And an 8-10 pounder hitting ya upside the head ain't fun.. You sure don't want to be running at full throttle when you run into them. I hear they all the way up to the Great Lakes gates......... It's got to run it course. No ones going to stop them suckers,, Asian Carp. Keepem Green
