Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

man the good old day's that was cool meeting up with your friend i used to be able to party all night and work the next day to no problem just get up and have beer first off and your on your way lol!

In restaurants we usually had a joint as soon as we got there in the morning. At one restaurant that I was the sous chef at there was a big fume hood over the grill, and we would smoke a joint under the hood. Then the manager would smell it and run around looking for where the smell was coming from. Outside, yes, in the dining room, yes, in the kitchen! Ah ha! You guys! Hmmm, no pot smell in here. Damn. And off he would go looking for the source. We would all fall over laughing so hard, and then go to the back door and smoke cigarettes to cover up the pot smell on our clothes. Later that restaurant sold, and one of the new owners was a huge pot head. He would leave us African roaches in the trough of the same fume hood (he figured us out pretty fast). That stuff was potent as all fuck. It is called African Black Magic now. Then it was just African.

Eddie Van Halen played concerts for beer back in the early days. I got drug to Cal Jam one, and went to the second. Matter a fact I still have 2 unused tickets.. We got carried in the crowd that broke down one of the gates. Back when, 73' we use to snag cases of beer off the delivery truck that supplied the shooting gallery on the Santa Monica pier. They have a great 'catwalk' under the pier we use to move around under the pier. I was like 13-14 year old at the time. I ran away from home and ended up living in a step van on the beach with stolen electricity from the Syannon? Rehab Building on Bay Street.
Been so long ago,, body surfing the Wedge at Newport, knee boarding Hunnington in the winter swells,, or ripping the Dog Bowl up on skateboards. My first job was Silver Lake Recording Studio. Helping around on a 24 track mixxer board.. Till I spilled a beer in it... Oh well........... One wood never know I use to be a beach bum. Don't tell my biker buddies.. I'd never live it down....

LOL, that was my impression, too. I spent 2 days at UCLA medical recently - nice area, sorta, I guess - but everything else looked like a place I wanted to leave as quickly as possible. An airplane seat on a departing flight never looked so good.

Similar feeling here, but you cannot mistake LA for California, cause as soon as you move up things are getting pretty cool... Death Valley I still remember it vividly!

i haven't been to la in 10 years and couldn't get out of there soon enough hell i don't even like going to sacramento lol

I haven't been to Sacramento unfortunately, too little time.

Greater Los Angeles has (and always has had) many dimensions. Its like the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings series. Some places are marvelous havens with elves and hobbits, and others are danger zones full of goblins and orcs. I used to hang out in Redondo with a GF and the beach scene, and then in Laurel Canyon with the music and movie scene. I also lived through the Rodney King Riots in Sandy Eggo. That is when I bought my first AR-15. LA/San Diego is only 20 minutes away from complete chaos. They burned down East San Diego and South Central (what used to be Watts) in a matter of days. They are building the new Chargers/Rams stadium in Inglewood now. Should give the place another dimension.

I do not miss SoCal, except in winter. Winters there were wonderful. Christmas dinner on the front lawn. Thanksgiving at the beach. And the women. Millions of hot babes. *sigh*

Yeah something like that, there are huge contrasts between rich upper middle class neigbhbourhoods like Laurel Canyon, Beverly Hills, Bel Air etc. and poor districts in West or East LA. Beaches are pretty amazing though! As far as San Diego is concerned we've been to Coronado Beach, which is very artificial (these plastic lawns, man), but beautiful too. Maybe the most scenic beach I've seen in SoCal... but as soon as my buddy lit up a fag an old lady came over frowning upon him for doing that. YOU CANNOT SMOKE IN THE STREET THERE! It's pretty weird for Italians, who smoke at swimming pools

i was in redondo beach back in 1959 i lived up normal my folks put me on a greyhound bus so i could go visit my friend in crime i was 9 on a greyhound bus alone didn't bother me at all i was there for 2 weeks it was a lot of fun for a kid I'm sure it was a lot different then we lived in west covina before moving up north we didn't even keep our door locked most people didn't back then it's a whole different world now!

I heard about stuff changing in SoCal!

Women are like deer... They go till they hit the water and then they stop. Deer hunting is always good along a river bank,, and women,, they hit that ocean then stop. So babe hunting is always better at the beaches... I was a kid when I was down there,, little punk ass surfer and skateboarder. Dogtown''' Local Santa Monica lifeguard tower #36 I think it was. Alittle surfer gang really.. Till we got into it with some Crips then it got scary and I lost 2 friends in a drive by. I got out of there and moved to SF area. And never looked back....... To me good riddance.

We've been to Santa Monica too, The Pier is a very commercial place these days... we ate at Bubba Gump Co

Funny, last time I was in Santa Monica, or rather, Venice Beach I was doing location scouting for a rock video for Cheap Trick. We had checked out a high end digital camera from one of the studios in Culver City and went to the Venice boardwalk. I was filming the chainasaw juggler, the Indian dude that steps in broken glass with his bare feet, and then I focused in on a guy keeping three Frizbees in the air at one time while hitting on every woman that passed him by. He turned around and it was a guy that I had worked and partied with in NorCal for many years. He had moved to Santa Monica, had a job as a waiter, and had a revolving door GF policy that was never ending. He was in heaven. A far cry from the trainer park that he grew up in. We then headed to the Long Beach Bridge where a million and one movies and TV shows have been shot, and then downtown to look at the old abandoned buildings for shooting sites for the video and then up to Griffith Park and out Mulholland Drive. Scouting for videos and features was a fun job in LA, especially when I was camped out in Laurel Canyon, where you get the illusion that you are not in the middle of the LA sprawl. Later I camped out in Echo Park, which was not bad either. I was younger and I could party all night and work all day. That was in the 1980s.

Party city for sure!

Yeah DJ Short was writing about this stuff, I'm thinking it was Congolese Black or even Malawi Gold, right?

stopping buy!

Thx, man!

Bubba Gump Co? Must been the new pier.. Same arched sign out front.. But that pier has always been as commercial as possible for the days. Venice beach and the boardwalks are all the same I don't think they could change much. . Maybe new shops but same shit. I hear Venice Beach opened tons of Herb stores and flooded the beaches? I was there as a kid and alot of that time I was experiencing different type err places alot. Everything was around from dummy dust to Real STP,, now that was the shit. 72-hour nightmare. And was. Here I was supposed to go home in 24,, never made it to say.... Shit was good. But I bet alot asn't changed in the touristy areas
Got to cover my eyes for a minute tommarrow... We real close to dead center of the eclipse. I'm going to get up for that one.. Keepem Green

Here's an update from The Northern Slope.

My check today revealed 4 UD and 3 Manipuri gals + one UD male that was killed without hesitation. UDs are in their 2nd or 3rd week of flowering while Manipuris are about to go off and I'm telling you they sure look like they're gonna be these Himalayan trees that double or triple in flowering. In fact the tallest one is 7 feet after topping and she might be 13 or 14 feet when she finishes. My only problem there is I didn't expect them to get so big with so little sun, but I might've underestimated this spot, cause in the afternoon they might even get 5-6 hrs of sun and it's enough for them to grow nicely. In fact that was confirmed by Brix readings.

leaves310.JPG

Manipuri 1 (top right corner) is 13,5 Brix
Manipuri 2 (bottom right corner) is 11 Brix
UD 1 (in the middle) is 8,5 Brix
UD 2 (top left corner) is 15,5 Brix
UD 3 (bottom left corner) is 9 Brix

As you can see there's a big variation in their sugar and mineral content, some show calcium deficit and some have plenty of it running through their veins. This cannot be explained by different medium or fertilisation schedules unfortunately, cause they all grow in the same soil that wasn't pre-fertilised and none of these was fertilised even once. The most baffling are two UDs that grow 2 feet from one another, but difference between them is 7,5 Brix, which is a lot. The only way I can explain it is by different root structure, which is a thing that's been poorly researched in cannabis. One if them is clearly more efficient in uptaking minerals and photosynthesis. In other words thing that really matters is GENETICS. Landrace strains seem to be natural brixers for example, they hit 18-23 Brix without any problems while it takes a lot of work with other strain to achieve these numbers.

Ok, some pics.

This is very interesting pheno of UD, a lanky, OG leaning plant (the one that scored High Brix), which looked like male to me in the beginning, but now when she's flowering she looks like a copy of Aurora Ultra (P1 mother). I'd like to remember if she came from F2 or F3 seed, but I planted mixed seeds here unfortunately.

I'm gonna call it 3rd week of October by the period in which they're triggered into bloom and what I've experienced with another Himalayan sativa I grew few years ago.

I never grew these before. They were freebies from RSC, that came with Lebs and were supposed to be losing viability, so I popped them all. They come from Bengal and are highly regarded by these few growers who gave them a try. Late flowering smell is dominated by orange and tangerine, high is supposed to be uplifting and meditating.

As far as UD in F2 I'd say there are at least 10 female and 5 male phenos.

Tips are slightly burnt, you may be overfeeding, but I cannot say it looks like a serious issue. Purple petioles are sometimes signs of potassium overdosing, but sometimes they're genetic trait and you can't really do anything with it.

The Doobie Brothers used to play at my High School in the early 1970s as well as other local gigs on the Monterey Peninsula. I have lost track of all the bands I have seen in person. I used to work at a night club in Carmel (the Barn at the Mission Ranch) and I saw just about every band that was working the California in the late 70s. And the beaches... Monterey had nice beaches, especially Carmel. Asilomar had the best surf waves, but I quit surfing Asilomar after my neighbor living 2 doors down from me in Pacific Grove got eaten by a great white shark. Seriously... they found him 2 days later with a huge bite out of his torso and surf board.

I lived on Mission Beach in Sandy Eggo starting in '83 I think it was. Sunset Court. Party central. The beach is all but deserted now, as they have banned alcohol there now. That was all it took to pull he plug on the endless parties there. But back then? Holy crap, if I did not have a woodie after walking a block it was a bad day for women there. It was also a bad day if I walked 2 blocks and did not have a beer in my hand. We had outrageous parties on Rockaway Court. They had the 'free electricity' there too, tapped in from a neighbor's electric meter. We used to pull the ladder on the roof so that the cops could not get us at those parties. Live bands were common on the beach. The surf music there was really good then. Twangy treble... The cops were always looking for underage girls and we always had underage girls at our parties. No one ever carded anyone there. Then the cops started threatening to confiscate the band's equipment if they did not stop playing. The bands always stopped playing after that.

When I was at SDSU in the later '80s I (I had moved inland to Del Cerro by then to sober up and finish my engineering degree) I had a professor that had an office at Scripps and he would call me when the waves were up. I had a long board there. The south summer swell and Blacks Beach was my favorite there. I was also on call to work in Hollywood on weekends as well. I met a lot of rock and roll band members doing rock video shoots. I was a mark for women at the end of shoots because they did not know who I was, and I knew the producers. Magically at the end of shoots the women would appear. Then it was off to wrap parties in the hills. Or some club. A lot of bands hung out at the Cat and Fiddle on Sunset. Or at Barneys. I was also able to get into the Rainbow Club on Sunset Blvd because we were on call to fix stuff at the club (plumbing, electrical, etc.). That was a get in if the bouncer liked you kind of place with a line around the block. We just went to the front of the line and ducked under the rope. "Here to fix the plumbing problem!" The women there were way above my pay grade. They also had a second tier club upstairs once you were inside that was even more insane. Sigh... we were spoiled rotten and elite. And we knew it. I also knew some porno producers there. And quite a few celebs, or family of celebs.

The first Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co. (movie tourist rip off) was on Cannery Row in Monterey. I guess they are a chain now? Cannot beat rip off tourists dollar sucker traps. Monterey has COMPLETELY changed since they built the aquarium. When I lived in Pacific Grove I watched them build the aquarium. Big trucks rolled in with the huge pre-built whale sculpture and gobs and gobs of huge rocks. That is now up there with Disneyland for tourist stops in California. Must be hell now that Highway one is closed after the floods and land slides. All the traffic is being funneled out through Highway 68 to Salinas and down Highway 101.

Before the aquarium, Cannery Row was run down and half filled with empty sardine factories from the hey days of fishing there. For decades, where the main entrance to the aquarium is now was Kaliopy Records. It was a huge vinyl record store and head shop with buttons and t-shirts. I won an REO Speedwagon t-shirt there in a drawing once. Later Tower Records bought them out. There were several head shops on the row, and a lot of tourist shops and restaurants. I was a chef there at one of them for about a year. That was before the aquarium opened though. Many years later when I was an engineer at Sun Micro, they used to bus us down for events there, and my GF and I would pick my mother up in Carmel and we would have catered dinners after hours at the aquarium in front of the giant 3 story tanks, with string quartets playing music. Man, it was great during the high tech bubble in the Silicon Valley. We were so spoiled. I was also spoiled growing up around Monterey, and going to university in San Diego. I did not know how good I had it, really.

Oh yeah. I had a 99.3% solar eclipse show here this morning. Over hyped. I have seen partial ones before. Even 0.7% sun is too bright to look at without the special ISO glasses. Weird ominous effect. It was over in a few minutes though. The mobs can go home now.
