Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed Stock

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

Here is what im working with.

Interesting. If I recall right, Conrad mentioned earlier that the RSC seeds have a lot of dwarfy genetics in them. You have two dwarfs, and two standards. Or one dwarf, one hobbit, one human and one elf? Oooooh, Lord of the Rings weed. I smoked a lot of weed when I read those books.

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

Red hash aroma and taste would be awesome, only smoked red hash a couple of times. We had all the blonde we wanted though.

Amusing. I had all the red that I wanted, and only the blonde a few times. I was buying red Leb by the quarter pound. And it was cheap. That was a good year for me. My roommate at the time decided one night that he would try to smoke a whole gram of it. I went to bed at midnight and about 2am I heard a loud thunk. He told me the next morning that he had finished the gram, got up from the easy chair to go to bed and he simply fell over onto the floor. He went on to become an art director for TV commercials, rock videos and feature films in Hollywood. I was a chef then, and went on to become an engineer. A couple of stoners that actually became successful tax payers contributing to society? Say it ain't so!

The blonde was more of an up high, never hit the floor with it.

Yeah, this sativa pheno that I have in bloom now has an uppity sativa high to it as well. Which has me thinking that this is actually the early harvested stuff that they made blonde from. I know that the claim is that they harvested the same plants earlier in the blooming cycle for the blonde hash, but it seems that if these are all genuine Bekka Valley strains that we are growing, and they seem to be the same from the photos, then the blonde hash actually came from the earlier ripening sativa phenos, and the red hash came from the later ripening indica phenos. All I have read says that they harvested the blonde earlier. Everyone seems to interpret that they picked the same plants earlier in the blooming cycle, but methinks that they harvested the early boomers early for the blonde hashish, and the later blooming indica phenos for the red hashish. It makes perfect sense that way. My seeds are from two different sources. And we know there are two distinct phenos.

Interesting all this international Lebby growing and comparison. We should split off a thread on it and let Conrad have his thread back?

Yea true, or take it to landrace 101

Yeah, Landrace 101 would work. I will hike it over there and wake that thread up.

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

BTW, I make a pollen brush for each male and I use a new piece of paper for each pollen collection session. I know, the added expense! I made two brushes for the two land race males I am running this year. One Lebby sativa pheno and a Durban Poison. I have found that sativa pollen is a very fine dust and dries fast, and is easy to work with. Indicas tend to be wetter and clumpier, with larger pollen grains. They take longer to dry and tend to be harder to work with.

I keep the males as bonsai dwarfs in 2 gallon pots so they stay small. I do not have enough room or time (or legal plant limits) to grow out 20 or so full size males to select the best breeders for these F2 runs that I am doing. The above photo has enough pollen to fertilize several branches of a full size female plant, and even with my shrimpy males, I can get 100 times the above pollen from them, easy. I will freeze several vials of the above male's pollen and then pull it.
I wanna unfreeze my pollen in few weeks to pollinate one of the Colombian ladies and maybe something else. In the past I used a bag filled with pollen and a brush to apply it. It works quite well and limits the exposure although some pollen was wind carried to another lady nearby, but with 10-20 seeds in otherwise sensi bud it's not a problem. I'm curious to see if unfrozen pollen is still viable. If it does I'm gonna be freezing it big time from now on as I can't run cuts.

Conrad,
I noticed over in Teads thread that you were recommending Fim'ng / topping his UD. I currently have an Auto going and it too has a very aggressive main stalk with a very pronounced cola as she is only 15 days old. She is from Mephisto Genetics and is a X between Ripley's OG and 3 Bears OG and of course Ruderalis. She is growing at a phenomenal rate and i have plenty of space for her. The Fim would be easy. She is DWC 5 gallon Bubble bucket. I have searched this and other forums without much success on advice.
I have seen your work on your outdoor Colombians with double fimming so i value your opinion.
Should i work her or not?

morning conrad hope you had a good weekend away my hash plant did not like being bent over it's pretty droopy didn't phase the skunk it's still growing like nothing happened it's funny the hash plant was doing so much better than the skunk I'm sure it will come around!

My biggest problem with freezing pollen has been getting the pollen dry enough before freezing, and then again when thawing it out. I have started using rice grains which seems to work well. I also use vials and leave them shut until they are warm, or you will get condensation on the pollen if it is still frozen or cold and exposed to the air. Water is a pollen killer. I also have my plants in pots, so I can roll them out and pollinate them and leave then for a day or so and then use a leaf blower to remove any loose pollen, and then wheel them back into the GH. I have yet to see any cross pollination doing this. I also keep the males 100 yards away and down wind.

I still do not have a good read on how long pollen will stay viable when frozen. Or even when it is fresh. The numbers are so variable from different sources. Some say 2 days fresh, some say a week to 10 days, some say if stored dry up to a month. Some say a year frozen, some say 2 or more years frozen. I have not used any pollen effectively more than 2 months old frozen, but I had humidity issues the last time I froze any pollen. This time I am making sure that it is dry dry dry, and using rice. Also freezing it within 12 hours of collecting.

I'm pretty sure you can top an auto providing it's a vigorous plant and it's done early.

Re: Conradino23's Another Outdoor Grow With High Brix Soil - Air-Pots & SoCal Seed St

Most growers time topping an auto to 14-21 days old, beyond 21 days and there may not be enough time to really benefit from it.

Im sorry i was under the impression UD was an auto.
Thanks

No, that's a photo strain :)

Here are pics from The New Sunny Spot, which is also a dry spot now. It seems last rain didn't do much, so they're hanging by a thread. Unfortunately my rubber swimming pool got pierced and I don't have water reserve any more. All they can do now is to hold tight until weekend when some rain is expected, fingers crossed.

Here are CG '72s. I pulled a sample from the first plant and it's 18,5 Brix.
