Colombian Gold Grow: Come Learn With Me How To Produce Your Own Seeds!

This is a first for me growing a large leaf plant. She seems quite healthy so far. There are giant leaves right above branches that are going to be growing buds. I hesitate to pull them off to expose those branches. Is it possible to bend and tuck leaves out of the way without removing them?

Really though I'm wanting those two Colombian Gold plants in the background to finish up. They've been flowering now for 8 1/2 weeks. The breeder calls it a 10 week flowering strain. I checked trichromes yesterday and they appear to be about 30-40% cloudy at this point. Probably closer to 25% if I don't add in wishful thinking. I've been patient this long and will have to continue to wait. Way too much time, lighting, nutrients invested in them to harvest them early. I just hope 10 weeks is the magic number.

I recommend Extreme Leaf Tucking®

Too Late!!! I've already gone with the extreme leaf butchering and removal method.

Four leaves isn't too extreme... I prefer tucking, but sometimes defoliation is neccessary.

As far as flowering times for equatorial sativas..... some of mine have gone 14+ weeks and could have gone longer. Another tip would be to not expect amber trichs as a sign to harvest, they may never come. One plant I harvested at 15 1/2 weeks was still about 30% clear to 70% cloudy. Of course this is just based on my limited experience with landrace sativas and extensive research... I like to think I know stuff.

The Colombian Gold I grew is from House of Seeds available @SeedsMan one of our most trusted sponsors. This version is a 75% sativa hybrid so not a pure indica. I actually just pulled up the WOS description for their Colombian Gold. It says 11-13 weeks flowering so I have no clue where I got that 10 weeks number.

These two have lost many of their fan leaves but seem to have stopped cannibalizing themselves. Both are still drinking a good amount of water. I checked the trichromes about a week ago and there are a good number more milky this week then last week. So they're moving in the right direction. I'm not in a huge hurry to harvest them because again I have time, nutrients, lighting invested in them. The last one I harvested at 10 weeks and It's pretty racy (for me) stuff. But with that said it's just the way @SweetSue likes hers.

I am watching these very closely watching for the colas to swell. The aroma has started to change from that sweet sort of cheese/garlic (I know I suck at slapping an aroma on a plant) to more of a tropical fruit fragrance.

We'll see where we're at in another week and a half. Here are some pictures from this afternoon. Might even have gotten a good one or two!!! :)

I invested in one of those cola magnifying lenses. It makes the colas look really big while reducing the size of everything around the cola.

It's sad to say but this might be the last post regarding the auto flower seed making project. I have to say that for me personally the project was both fun and successful. I ended up with right around 800 auto flower seeds. I germinated four of the Quarter Pounder X Tangerine Dream auto about 10 days ago and all of them sprouted. I waited a week and planted four of the Quarter Pounder auto X Gorilla Glue auto seeds in a hempy solo cup. Two sprouted today and knocked off their own helmets which I take as a good sign. I feel pretty good the others will sprout in the next day or two.

So at this point I don't feel a need to test plant any more of the auto seeds to see if they'll sprout okay.

So there is nothing left to do but drop a couple and grow them out and see what comes from them.
