Colombian Gold Grow: Come Learn With Me How To Produce Your Own Seeds!

I have started looking at the Quarter Pounder plant the last couple days. Today she is at day 84 after sprouting. The seed breeder says Auto Quarter Pounder is harvested around 80 to 85 days after germination. Remember, the Quarter Pounder is the plant that I reversed to produce the female autoflower pollen used to pollinate the other four autoflower plants in an effort to make seeds. So I have to not only check the trichromes to determine the readiness of the plant, I also have to be aware of the maturity of the seeds on this plant. The seeds to me are more important then the buds on this plant.

The buds are looking pretty close to harvest time. The resin/crystals have been building up over the last 7-10 days and the buds are swelling up too. She has slowed down her water/food uptake to a degree but is still drinking a good amount. So with all this information I am inclined to let her keep going as long as possible to allow as many seeds as possible to mature fully. Here are a couple pictures of the Quarter Pounder taken this morning.

I am thinking I'll wait another week to 10 days before plucking a seed off of her to check for maturity. There are not a ton of seeds on her so I don't want to be too hasty and waste even a single seed if I can help it.

I removed the majority of the pollen sacks from the Quarter Pounder plant. I collected a good bit of pollen in the process. All my auto flower plants have been pollinated so this pollen will be stored for future use unless I decide to pollinate a couple buds on the Colombian Gold plants I have in flower.

And I learned I'm weak as I couldn't help harvesting at least one seed to see how far along they were. The first one looked so good I removed four more for a total of 5 so far. A five pack from the breeder is $73.41 so you can see how quickly your savings add up when you breed your own seeds. I will not touch any more seeds on this particular plant for 14 days at which time I will harvest the plant.

I think only one breeder offers them.

I appreciate the kind words, Dankman_420

I found something out the other day I did not know. I'm not sure it's true/accurate so I wanted to ask you guys who have a ton more knowledge then I do.

Is it true that when you top a plant the main taproot stops growing? If this is true why do we top plants so early at the 4th or 5th node? Doesn't it make more sense to wait and top the plant when it's a foot tall or taller?

The plants will continue to produce roots it said, but the tap root quits growing when the plant is topped. I'm having nice success with the last three plants I let run natural with no topping or training. I may have to top a couple late into veg and see the results.

A long taproot is more important, IMO, outdoors as opposed to indoor container growing.Id think what's of greater importance to us is strong lateral roots to firmly anchor the plant in the container, lateral roots which also explode with root hairs.

I have a new strain I will be growing. This from a clone gifted to me the other day when a friend came by for a visit. The strain is called Sour Angel. Bred by In House Genetics.....(Sour Dubble X Hells Angel OG). It has a pretty unusual coloration on the leaves which I was told is normal. I've seen photos of a bud on a plant a ways into flowering. If I can get mine to look like this I'll be pleased as punch.

I up-potted the plant this morning and she looks happy and healthy. I'll start looking to determine which branch to harvest for a cutting. I'll give her another 7-10 days to get comfortable and relax and then take a cutting. Here are a few photos of her after up-potting.

If you've been following this thread you'll know I worked to make some auto flower seeds this winter. This is one of the plants I pollinated. It is from Fast Buds via @SeedsMan Seeds and called Gorilla Glue auto. This is the last of the autos I pollinated. She has about 4-5 weeks of flowering still to go. I think she will be extremely frosty at the end of flowering!!
