Colombian Gold Grow: Come Learn With Me How To Produce Your Own Seeds!

More canna joy. :slide:

Ended up with a second male which I've now segregated in my smoking porch. Going to attempt to polinate a few lower branches and see if I can make more seeds as these plants have grown really well. How long does pollen typically take to ripen?(I know this is back somewhere but couldn't find it lol) And how tolerant are males to lower temps? The room I have him in is heated only with a space heater and have a 60w full spectrum bulb on him but I'm worried that if the temps go too low the pollen won't ripen.

Not positive on the temperature question so can only answer based on common sense. I would say the male would perform okay as long as he is kept at 62 degrees or warmer. But that is just my gut feeling. As for how long the pollen sacks take to start giving up pollen that varies by strain and conditions. Just keep an eye on the pollen sacks. You can't miss it when one opens. Once the first opens you'll find more almost daily.

Once the pods form and start turning white, the pollen ripens very quickly, like overnight to a couple days for the large pods, longer if the pods are still small. Then, when you aren't looking the pod pops open and POOF! The pollen drops out, ready to do its thing.

Hiya Beez,

I just finished page 1, lol. I saw your ladies pics on SweetSue's thread, and had to see how they got there. They were beautiful. I'll be up there in a couple days. I'm slow, but thorough, lol.

It was like a stoners convention here today. As some of you may know I've been blessed to have Sweet Sue visit us here for three weeks. Her positive outlook on life is contagious if you're not careful. Today was a treat for me as I was able to talk both Gentleman Jim and MrGreene to come by for a BBQ dinner. We had brisket, pulled pork, Brunswick stew, Lisa's famous twice baked potato salad as well as her homemade baked beans. I whipped up a batch of my homemade Red Lobster biscuits. I think a good time was had by all. Good food, good friends, and some good flowers.

The thread has come to a crawl, Bode so should be easy to get caught up. I hope you pick up a tid bit of information here and there as you're reading through.

Sounds delectable! Glad your all enjoying yourselves

Wait, you're saying Dutch has better people then me?

When I am breeding I segregate my male. I have a small table I put in a storage/junk room with the above mentioned light over him. I run the light 16 on and 8 off. The pollen sacks will continue to develop even if not in 12/12 lighting. You are looking for this to develop
I circled a pollen sack that is fully matured and opened. There are four pollen pods hanging down as you can see. Once the sacks start to open they will continue to do so for usually a couple weeks, sometimes more. I always collect the pollen in the morning. I spot the newly opened sacks, hold the hand mirror underneath the open pollen sacks and very lightly tap it with a pair of tweezers or something similar. Don't tap it so hard that you're causing pollen to fall from adjoining branches. Just a light tap will do the job. When finished collecting it I use a sterilized razor blade to scrape all the pollen together. I
have these tiny plastic containers with a screw on top that I use for storage. I put a bit of rice in to help keep the pollen dry. What you'll want to do is look at the breeders recommended flowering time of the strain you want to pollinate. Say it's 12 weeks..........I count backwards 6 weeks and in that case would pollinate the plant when it was 6 weeks into flowering. All seeds I've grown have matured (the majority) in around 5-6 weeks. So by pollinating the plant at week 6 your seeds should be ready to harvest around the same time your plant is ready to harvest.
My dispensary where I got my clones is being secretive about the strains used in Grape presidential and Twista, I figured out Twista but I have no clue if these clones are even autos or indoor/outdoor that info is valuable
