Colombian Gold Grow: Come Learn With Me How To Produce Your Own Seeds!

This is a sativa hybrid 75% / 25% from World of Seeds. I'm not worried about the plant finishing. That plant was specifically to make seeds for future grows. I'm just concerned about the seeds. But again, not much I can do at this point other then keep the plant as happy and healthy as I can.

There's so much frost on that bud it looks like it never stopped producing trichomes to focus on seed production. Do they normally get that frosty after pollination?

Most of the plants I've pollinated still produced a good bit of resin/trichromes yes. I know I have plucked 4 seeds off the CG plant and one of the four was mature. So I have to figure at least some of the seeds on her are maturing.

Oh god, I just read 66 pages and it was worth it. Great thread! Nice to see the level of work put into your tutorial for cloning and using CS. I will have to try using CS on a female one day and see how it goes!

Beez, I have a question I saw about 20 pages back (LOL!) about you drying out seeds for a month....What is the reason you dry them so long for? Is it just to be safe? You never really mention.

I guess because it's effortless I just let them sit there. And when I package them up I'm sure they're 100% dry. And part of that is this summer I put about 300 seeds in a small plastic bottle when I thought they were fully dried. Two weeks later when I took the lid off the seeds on top hair white hair looking mold growing on them. So rather then see that again I make sure they're completely dried before storing.

OK, that makes sense. Do you wash them too? I am a bit of a clean freak when it comes to my grow room...or at least I try to be, anyway. I wash mine off of plant matter, swish them around in a cup for a few mins, dry them off in a few paper towels (progressively dryer) and then lay them out for a few days to completely dry. I'm going to be testing about 6 seeds for long-term storage in the freezer for a year to see if they are still viable. I have to admit, I'm a bit skeptical about it though.

Weird question, how come you use everything except flower pots lol? :thumb: I'm a big fan of 5gal buckets myself. :surf:

Flower pots as in terra cotta clay pots? If so I don't use them because the plastic pots are a lot lighter and less expensive to use. Once in awhile I'll grow a plant in a 5 gallon bucket. I have a Colombian Gold clone flowering in one right now.

I just got finished brushing on the colloidal silver onto the Quarter Pounder auto plant. I spotted at least 3 or 4 more female pollen sacks on her. I didn't have enough time to look thoroughly but I'm thinking we did it and at least have a shot at good, healthy pollen. That's the next step.........will the pollen sacks actually produce viable pollen. I feel good that over the next 4 or 5 days we'll see more pollen sacks appearing. I know the last plant I reversed made a bunch of pollen sacks.

If you remember because the plant was very small I decided to apply the colloidal silver to 4 small branches......and when I say small I mean they were about 1.5" long when I started. One of those branches has stretched a good bit and since I've been brushing it on to that branch the whole time even though I see no sacks on it yet I am hoping it has a good number here soon. It's all up to Mother Nature now. I know I'll be trying to squeeze out enough pollen to brush on to a bud or two at least of the other 3 autos.......especially that Stardawg from Fastbuds. Great looking plant so far.

Hey Beez. Quick question about female pollen coming from your Autoflower. With the auto gene being a recessive trait..... if your taking female pollen from your auto plant and used it on another Autoflower it will be creating feminized auto seeds100%?(Is This Correct?)

Now my question about using the feminized auto pollen would be .....

if used on a female photoperiod would it produce a “fast” version photo it would it cross the strains and make the auto gene recessed again to then have to breed it out?

Just curious! Thanks for the info

Dutch.........this answer is to the best of my knowledge. Reversing a feminized auto flower plant with colloidal silver or STS will create female pollen sacks. When pollen from these female pollen sacks pollinates the same plant (or in my case) any of the four growing side by side the plants from the resulting seeds would all be feminized auto flower plants.

I believe if you were to use this same female pollen (from the treated QP auto fem) with a female photo period plant the resulting plants from this cross would be 100% feminized photo period plants. Would the resulting cross be faster then the photo period parent plant? Let me know what you find out. I would just be guessing. Logically to me the answer would be no as the auto gene is recessive.

Excellent answer beez and thank you!

I think we're up to 7 female pollen sacks that I saw with a decent look. I need to identify them all so I can start to look for the first one to start opening up. I sure hope to see a bunch more female pollen sacks before all is said and done. I want some auto flower crosses and QP S1 seeds.

At the behest of @newty I pulled the Colombian Gold clone out this morning to see about a haircut. I may have gotten a little carried away. But honestly when I was finished I couldn't tell where I had removed leaves and branches from.

We will see how she likes it by tomorrow! I’m sure she won’t mind one bit

Too late to save those leaves they are in the trash can. I don't eat salad or drink tea.

The last few days I've been worried about the seeds on the Colombian Gold plant. My fear that I over pollinated it if that's possible. There are just SOOO many seeds on each bud and I wonder if they're going to mature. So today I got out my fly tying visor and put the CG plant up on my desk and started examining buds close-up. Although not giddy, I was happy to spot mature seeds peeking out of their calyxes. The Colombian Gold harvest is officially under way. I think these seeds will need to be scarified very well prior to germination. They are shiny wet with resin as I think you can see in the photo. I've never grown Colombian Gold before and have to say the aroma is not the most pleasant I've ever experienced. It's a dank sort of rotten lemon mixed with diesel fuel aroma. Not looking forward to trimming it as it was making my eyes water just getting in close looking for the mature seeds.
