Cause She's A Brix House - Noob's OG Kush & Carnival In DBHBB

UPDATE

The girls are growing up. They will become ladies after their first CAT drench. Today is that day. I have been trying to keep the tops as even as I can. I've been tucking and moving as best I can. I'm trying not to prune them too much because the kit uses foliar feeding. Need leaves for that. I do have some branches under the canopy that aren't making it to the top. I'm reluctant to chop them but I know I will have to eventually.
On to the yellow pictures.

Yeah, mason, I know he's gonna tell me to chop em up. I just hate doing it sometimes.

I know the feeling. I'm always seeing a 1OZ bud when I cut stem. Then when I do finally cut it I cry because I don't have the room to root it and grow another. I've pruned 3 times in the last month because I hate it too. I take a little, then walk away sobbing... lol

When I was growing outdoors, I let them run wild. Never cut anything green off the plants. Indoor growing is so much different.

Doc told me to prune from the third node down. Yeah right!!! There was absolutely no way I could bring myself to do it. Hence the two additional prunings I've had to do. And possibly a fourth before bud set... lol

3rd node down? Oh my... if anyone would know, it would be Doc.

I know the feeling about seeing 1 ounce buds on those little stems. I'm just trying to get the best quality I can but I also want big buds. So I will prune the lower nodes that haven't reached the canopy. I don't know about 3 nodes but I'll cut the 1st one.

Doc suggested the 3rd node down for me weeks ago when the transplant went sideways. There would have been plenty of time to fill back in. I just flipped yesterday.

I only brought that up to share my experience with the horror of pruning... lol

Eh, where has this thread been? Or I should be saying sorry I'm late Noob. I'll catch up quick.

Do you think pruning them would have prevented the issues you had after transplant?

Welcome millertm! I hope I don't disappoint. I wasn't very happy with my last harvest. I'm hoping to remedy that with this grow.
Looking great from what I've seen. DBHB soil grows monsters everywhere and Doc will keep you honest too. You look to be mid flower and a bit ahead of my place. I took a small break and got behind the curve a bit.

Cheers

I tried something different this time when I transplanted.

Last time I transplanted I gave her 4 gallons of water. Completely saturated the 20 gallons of soil. It took almost 3 weeks for the pot to dry out.

This time I only gave her 1 gallon water at transplant. My thinking was that would be plenty of water for her to start stretching into her new pot. Then I would increase to 2 gallons next watering... so on and so fourth.

It appears that the new soil became hydrophobic and created a "bowl" and the 1 gallon of water just flooded the rootball. I assumed the opposite. I thought the rootball became hydrophobic and repelled the water, so I gave her another 2 gallons over the entire pot. I ended up making it worse.

That's when Doc stepped in and helped me dry out the pot and get her back on track. The pruning was to take the pressure off the root system.

Shout out to Graytail for the "bowl" theory. It's the only possible way 1 gallon of water was too much for a 20 gallon pot. :high-five:

It was a mistake I wont repeat again.

Yeah HB is pretty impressive so far. I'm around day 20 for these girls. The OGK will finish in around 35 days give or take a day. The Carnivals should finish a week to 10 days later. Those are breeder numbers so it could be longer. It will be hard to tell because the trichomes won't change to amber. Should be interesting. Thanks for checking it out millertm

Nice, I'm on day 21/75 today on my GG. 10 weeks strains are worth it in my book.

Cheers

It's amazing that these plants can teach us things even when we think we know better. This is such a great hobby. Plus I'm growing my freaking own medicine.

Since you are trying to keep your plants short, why do you use the 20 gallon pots? I would think a 7 would get you the same yield right? Plus you wouldn't use as much soil or drenches. Just curious.

Thanks for stopping by bro

Hey Noob,
Your yard is looking quite wonderful
I wanna scrog so bad but i cant seem to stay committed.
Did you diy that scrog net?:goodjob:

Hey Stage, thanks for stopping by. The scrog is a bitch. I hope these plants stop stretching and just start putting on bud weight. I built the scrog out of 1" pvc. I drilled holes every 2.5 inches and screwed the screws in with my drill. I strung up each section separately because I knew I would have to take my OGK before my Carnivals. So I can cut the strings on the OGK side and the strings on the Carnival side won't be effected. I fixed it to my tent poles using duct tape and zip ties.

Cheers Stage. Have some Deathstar Kush
