Carmen's Winter Autos With ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro!

I probably did. There was also insect frass involved that may have influenced. I think I went too much and with two things instead of one at a time for testing. I broke the rules and paid!
Oh yes, I remember that now. Jon also had a frass issue some time back!

I can't answer all of those questions but I can answer this:
Thank you Shed, you answered plenty. This is just enough info about light to get a basic understanding for lighting I think.
K is a measure of light temperature in degrees Kelvin. For example, an old-style incandescent bulb is 2700ºK (warm/red) and sunlight on a bright day is 6500ºK (cool/blue).

Here's a chart to help, and it even spells "colour" like you do so you know it's good!
And then it didn't
The following table shows the correlated colour temperature of common light sources:

Color Colour TemperatureLight Source
1000-2000 KCandlelight
2500-3500 KTungsten Bulb (household variety)
3000-4000 KSunrise/Sunset (clear sky)
4000-5000 KFluorescent Lamps
5000-5500 KElectronic Flash
5000-6500 KDaylight with Clear Sky (sun overhead)
6500-8000 KModerately Overcast Sky
9000-10000 KShade or Heavily Overcast Sky

nm (nanometers) are a measure of the wavelength of light, where the reds are on the longer end of the scale and blues are on the shorter end (as shown in the colour chart above).

As to whether the ratios are fixed, that would depend on whether the light has veg and flower settings. If not, they're fixed.
@StoneOtter will know the answer to whether or not the ratios are fixed.
In terms of your PAR/PPFD question, this might be worth reading.
Excellent reference, thank you.
Finally, relating to why they consider cool 5000ºK light good for veg and warm 3000ºK light good for flower, that relates to what plants would normally see outside during those times. In the summer the sun is more directly overhead, and the light would be bluer. As it gets lower in the sky toward fall and winter, the color temp gets warmer as the light has to travel through more of the atmosphere to get to you, redding it up (like sunsets).
Perfect! It all makes sense, thanks!

If you mean ability to manipulate certain blocks of light frequency power, yes a few of the highest tech lights do. For instance some can program a sunrise ramping up to a scorching day and down into night and in that time have the light frequency color bands chosen amplified or not. It's the new stuff!

That is very advanced. What I wanted to find out is if there are different settings for seedling, veg and flower, or if the algorithmic ratio they speak of is fixed. I answered that by opening the box and having another good look at the light. Now I understand that distance from the plant and dimming will optimize the algorithm for each growth stage as it is fixed.

Vipar Spectra recommend adjusting the dimmer and heights as follows:

seedling cycle
25 % at 27.9 cm (11 inches) for two to three weeks
veg cycle 50 % at 27.9 cm (11 inches)
flower cycle 100 % at 27.9 cm (11 inches)

Looks like preparations are well under way @Carmen Ray :cheer:

Excited to see what you do with these fancy new LEDs and hopefully you can dial in what soil is best on this upcoming grow :D

On their page 2 is some data under Planting Suggestions. Canna Plants 200-400 seed
400 - 600 vegetative and 600 - 1000 no c02.

Those numbers are in ppfd of PAR and are what you're asking I think? Just coded a little differently? They are good numbers as I've seen them other places and used them too.

Are those stickers going up on the walls of your dining room? :)
Hehehe. I had thought I could use adhesive putty for stickers when I take pics. That'll work I hope. I'll figure something out :)

Incidentally, I am really pleased that I didn't get rid of the Red Russian when I spotted the little bit of mould. There isn't anymore on the curing bud and as it cures it is smoothing off nicely. Also quite spicy like the Wedding Cake, and very sedative. A proper full stone. It's a good medicinal strain for me. @HashGirl which terpenes are the spicy ones, and the floral? I am wondering if they are sedative terpenes.

I met a woman who has an involvement with a lab that runs various tests on cannabis. One of the tests they run is for mycotoxicity. It's good to know that there is a local testing facility. It speaks to active local industry.

It is. It's reserved for when I want to sleep. Very stony and soporific. I need more of this medicine, and I need to do some super sativa autos too. Ethos do an Inzane.... :drool:Once I have done this run of Skywalker OG I would like to do a couple of sativas.
