Carmen's Winter Autos With ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro!

Looking good Carmen, as you say nice and green!

Oh I'm on parliaments grid as well as a hospital so when parliament is in session the power stays on. Just for anyone that's confused
I ised to live in Melkbos during the original load shedding in 2006 I think. Literally across the street from us they always had power because they were on the Koeberg circuit from Joberg. We weren’t 😅

Pine rings, cepes and if I'm lucky something active like a species of philocybe. Pine rings been everywhere in numbers this season. Delicious
My favourite are the ceps, so deliciously creamy. Is that little French deli in Gardens still there? I used to buy my boletes from them when they had.

Thank you Nick :)
Yeah I recon that grid is permanently on, with back up.
Well at least I really hope it is. Then again, anything is possible here
I am embarrassingly ignorant when it comes to our grid system. I have taken electricity for granted my whole life. Does the Koeberg circuit supply us or Jhb?

Koeberg must have electricity 100% of the time so its supplied from JoBerg or Mpumalanga wow spelt right first time!) The area immediately around the plant Africa’s only nuclear power station, (two reactors French built) is also supplied from there. A lot of the staff live in Melkbos as well! The power generated is then sent off all over, not only Cape Town the whole Western Cape, load shedding 15 years ago was because they need the rotors replacing every x years. They ordered for “now” and the French said,

“Mais we tell you 2 years ago how you say we very busy this year because we have 8 plants needing rotors and need make the order now, so desole…” Just 100% bad management. The French helped out and left one of their own offline an extra 6-8 months to rush one over. Rush meaning like 4-6 months.

Side note - where the N1 meets the R21 (I think) you used to feed into the fast lane which was horrible. Because it was designed by a French guy and they drive on the right 🤣 They fixed it for the WC.

Oh gosh, I hadn't thought that one through :(

Thank you Old G. I've missed you around here. Are you settling in now in the new place?
Yes and fixing up our family home to sell, it’s stressful . My new place has a perfect closet to grow in , your doing great Carmen Ray and I know your gonna grow beautiful plants

They're all looking great and it's nice that nothing is in flower yet after the rough starts! Oof on the loadshedding though...the few weeks where you had more consistent power must have just been a nasty tease. :grrrr:
No I've got some mothers that I'm using to breed. I don't want anything to flower yet as still waiting to move and don't want to move while everything is half way. Seems I'm going to have to get started as move is taking ages. Bummer.
I have this lightbulb that charges while the power is on and then when the power goes off, it stays on. For a few hours at least and then needs power to charge it.
It's not crazy bright but it will hopefully be enough to keep the tent lit. I'm going to have to go 24/0 as 11.5 hours off will definitely send everything into flower.
Can you get solar charged batteries? You only need power when it's dark out so you can charge them all day (when it's not raining obv!).

You can get anything if you can afford it. I can't and the vast majority of South Africans can't afford solar power. It is hideously expensive.

Yes, I've rigged a rechargeable led lamp so it will come on when the power goes. I won't have to do anything but it means some faulty schedules for vegging plants. I'll save the flowering out of clones for spring outside.
It's going off until midnight in about 5 minutes.

Sorry, I was replying to Lerugged and meant a portable one to power the light for 12 hours.

There are companies that kit your house out with solar. It's like R1500 or somewhere around there for an average sized house. We spend that on electricity now so I'd rather do solar than have eskom. No loadshedding is the prize for me. They install, maintain and all that included in price

Woah that’s cheap!

Something like this might also work, probably change the lights/ extend the cables. This is an emergency light for power cuts, pretty sure we had near the same in Cape Town in the restaurant. Charges off the mains when there’s power and has x number of hours of lighting off the battery inside.

Oh wow, I was not aware of this. That does allow more people to access solar power. I googled, you still need the down payment etc, but it definitely opens up the market. Good to hear.

Is that a battery for the light you are referring to in the post, Nick? It looks like a power bank of sorts.

I hope you are having a great weekend.

Today the big plants are filling out and showing a few pistils. The small Gelato is living its best life in the mushroom compost mix and being top watered. The swicks are drinking heavily now. I gave them both 2 L today as the reservoirs were bone dry. I had to wet the wicks and as a consequence I need to keep checking to ensure that they are swicking again. They are getting spring water from a nearby spring.

Thank you for being here.

Thanks for having us. Plants are looking much happier, normal even! :thumb:
Thank you, I think so too :)

I have made some adjustments in the canopies. I have swopped the pipe cleaners with more substantial BBQ skewers and hooks. I have defoliated the Gelato auto 1 slightly. I have snipped a couple of fingers that were shading the growth points, and I am still tucking what I can. I am trying to even out the canopies for flower.

Let's start with the Gelato auto 1:

Gelato auto 2:

Have a great week ahead .
