Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

Won't the water in the second bottle absorb the CO2? I guess at some point it becomes saturated and it just bubbles out anyway... So do you use that CO2 water for your plants? I read somewhere a company actually makes CO2 tabs to put into your res...

You are correct! Some of the CO2 will make soda water, but it would get saturated fast, and just bubble through after that. It took about 3 hours for it to show the little soda bubbles on the inside of the bottle indicating it was saturated to the point that no more could dissolve into the water. I'll just go get some lemons and make sparkling lemonade!! And I would NEVER put it on the roots... O2 for roots, CO2 for foliage.

Correction on strain name!

Hi Guys, and Gals!!

...
Then up in my brain there arose such a clatter.
I jumped up in a start, mad as a hatter!
Away to the Flower Box I flew like a flash,
I tore open the shutters and threw up the sash(light curtain)

The HPS light on the crest of the new growth aglow,
Gave the luster of mid-day to the plants below.
When what to my wandering eyes should appear
Why a clone of Blue Diesel, and another was near.

Okay, sorry, I'll stop... There hiding behind a Purple Widow, and a Lamb's Bread sat the two most hearty Blue Diesel clones vegging and growing and ALIVE!!!

Blue Dream x Sour Diesel = Blue Diesel
<Snip>
Happy-Happy, Joy-Joy!!

I've been doing some research and it seems that Blue diesel is actually Blueberry x NYCD

This is so not what I have...

So I did some more searching and found that the strain name for what I have.

Ladies and gentlemen! May I present to you the ACTUAL Plant and its true name.
IMG_20120630_035509_Edit_for_editor.jpg

Blue Dream
x Sour Diesel = Dream Diesel

Variety: Sativa Dominant Hybrid

THC Level: Very High 18-22%

Flowering Time: 55-65 days

Yield: 450g per meter

Dream Diesel is a sativa dominant hybrid that is a cross between Blue Dream X Sour Diesel. It has a fruity aroma and taste with a hint of diesel. It creates a euphoric high that can best be described as thoughtfulness with a chance of giggles.

She has yet to pop roots through the rockwool yet, but in my experience, this strain is an easy clone, so I'm confident she will root. Gawd, I'm so happy to still have this one around, and I hope she stays around for a long time.

That's what I thought too, until I wandered over to N0 M3rcy supply following a 2L sog link (was that from you?) and saw these: CO2 tabs

Maybe it's bogus, and I've always read and agreed with the idea that roots need oxygen and leaves need co2...

Links to Sponsor sites are fine.

I saw those tabs, too, and did some reading. It says that they had tested it, and got good results. I'm curious to see their data. Empirical Data tells the WHOLE story, so that's what I'd rather see. Good results against *what* exactly... I don't know.

Okay, Folks, there it is.

Enjoy, and post your thoughts!

Thanks Jandra!! If I could rep I would. Great pictures and instructions on the homemade CO2 generator. It seems to be low maintenance also with only having to add water and sugar 2 times a month. How long have you been producing CO2 this way? It seems to be a good way to go. Thanks!
Congratulations on the healthy weight loss. That is really something to be proud of!
I also like the new name for the strain!
:goodjob:

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

Hey Jandre, congrats on the weight loss, keep up the good work. For the CO2 generator, you could start with less yeast for smaller initial foam up. The yeast would quickly multiply, one pack of dry yeast would be plenty.

Hey thanks for all the good words!

It's very low maintenance! I'm glad you liked the tutorial.

How long have I been producing CO2 this way? Since I posted the tutorial! But I know yeast intimately because of my baking background. I kept a sourdough alive for 15 years, so I know it's possible to keep this alive for a great long time.

Just keep in mind that sometimes you won't see bubbles, and sometimes you'll see a lot. It's just the nature of the yeast. They seem to rise and fall in population in relation to the amount of sugar and/or alcohol in the mixture. So if you look in there one day and see no bubbles rising, just be patient. I didn't put this into the tutorial, but as the temps rise each day, they will become more and more active. If you want to, after the first day, you can add another 1/2 cup of warm water and 2tsp sugar to jump start them again for the second day, but I wouldn't do that any more than that... just the bi-weekly maintenance.

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

congrats on the weight i wish i had as good of results i have a metabolic problem that is yet solved i can eat no more than 500 calories a day and exercise and only maintain my substantial size i have had every test known to man been on a diet since i was a though in my dads mind during halftime, its crazy, hmm maybe 100 calories a day,,lol so 1 thing with the co2 i have extensive yeast exp i have brewed beer and kept a starter since the 90s the process also creates alcohol and one it reaches a certain level it will more or less kill off most of the active yeast, to combat this you have to use a wine yeast that can handle much higher levels of alcohol and periodically dump 3/4 of the stock and add fresh sugar and water, also yeast needs o2 so a hearty shake now and again will help keep things productive,, your design is excellent and i will be stealing it, damn 2l bottles are so damn useful and versatile!!! great tutorial also brudda!!!:thumb:

damn i guess i should have read all the way to the end, seems your as much of a baker as I, please disregard my prior post cuz looks like "you got this!" lol

Y'know when the first question about 2 bottles... I said "carboy" in the reply... that should have given you a clue as to my experience with yeast.

Maybe the next I do will be with fresh fall vine grapes and Lalvin or maybe ice grapes and Montrachet?

Your turn!

PICTURE DAY!!

Flower Day 0

Okay folks, Plants are 10-11" tall after the topping I did last week. I tried to even out the canopy a bit and make everything as level as I could. Plants are looking good for Day 30 of Veg under HPS.

As such, I have removed the hour of light at night, so tonight they should get full dark all night, and start flower growth tomorrow. Monday being Day 1 makes the weeks end on Sunday.. hehe, funny how that works out the the same day as last grow. I will be posting weekly pics on Sundays as normal and starting the third Saturday, as usual, we will have close-ups and micro shots.

CO2 Has been in the box for 2 days now, and RH has come back up to median levels during the "Day". Still at the low end of acceptable range, but it's in range. Temps still hover between 78 and 85 when lights are on, which is PERFECT for CO2 Enrichment.
Also did some light defoliation to open up the canopy a bit. Just the big fan leaves that were shading other plants. Did that about a week or so ago.

re: Cardboard Flowerbox Test 3 - 41 Week Perpetual SOG

great update, looks like the best part is about to begin, my plants seem to prefer the higher temps, when my temps are above 80 the plants seem to respond better to it, i know 78 is the guide but surely some of these plants grow in hotter places than that, mine seem to like the temps between 80 and 85, they seem to grow quicker,
