Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

Hi,VG-I'm doing alright-Thank You for asking !
Tomorrow is harvest day for the ugly one-I'll (hopefully) need the room for my 2 new ones...
Right now they're in the solo cups at the "are they gonna sprout,or did I eff something up" stage...;)
i am in the #ffswhereisit club too. !!! nearly as bad as the "are you a lady ?" phase and no way of doing the "cup'n'cough" check!!!

I'm hoping to see their smiling little faces tomorrow morning, but I'll give them a week if that's what it takes- can't rush mother nature...
ironically written by a grower who "adapts the sunshine !" and creates a biosphere to do exactly that so well!!!.

The one I'm harvesting tomorrow, which I thought would be just about dead by now-popped out a bunch of fresh pistils last night-she pretty much stopped for the last week, now she's at it again, and most of them are doubles (4 pistils per calyx)
watch and wait !.

Never done a journal before,so bear with me....

So my budget when I started this was $150,and I used all but 20 cents of it:

Northern Light x Big Bud feminized seeds ...had 'em already
Low Ryder#2 auto seeds................................. "
Bagseed#3 seeds.............................................. " ( from bagseed#2,she was a beast)

Oneo LED grow light from the zon .......$100.00 (1000 watt claimed/200watts at the wall) (not blurple)
Home Depot 2'x2'x44" wardrobe box ... $18.00
1.5 cu.ft. Black Magic organic potting soil...$18.00
x4 reflective windshield shades................$4.00 (Dollar Tree)
x3 - 4" USB fans ............................................$6.00 ($2.00 each,99cent store (wtf?)
Mega Crop 750g free sample....................$3.80 (paid for shipping)

Total:...........................................................$149.80
I already had everything else-packing tape,material for drip tray,ph tester,etc

So here's a few pics of what's going on up till now:

So here's where it all started: (My custom seed warmer, which doubles as a stove)

Only one popped,so the next step was:

Now here's where it gets interesting (to me,at least)-On Feb.1 ,I stuck 4 seeds in the ground outside my kitchen window just to see if they would pop in this cold, wet environment -the daytime temps were in the high 50's,nightime was low to high 30's, and it was raining, which it did for 20 of the 28 days in Feb.

So,I was a pleasantly surprised on the 11th when I found this going on:)ya gotta look close, there's 2 seedlings there-NlxBB on the left,Bagseed#3 on the right)

in the cold 21419.JPG

It took them 10 days, but they actually popped! (didn't really think they would)
Well,I couldn't just leave them there,so,after a day or 2, I brought them inside in solo cups and put them in "the box" with the Low Ryder#2,which got off to a very slow start:

A day after I brought them in,another Bagseed#3 popped...I left it outside to see what it would do, There will be more about that one a little later...

Fast forward to Feb 3 -topped NLx BB, fimmed Bagseed 3,and started LST on the Low Ryder#2:

Here's how they looked 2 days ago (15th):LoRyder on the left,NLxBB bottom right,

That Northern LightxBigBud is rapidly becoming a monster, and I'm rapidly finding out just how small a 4 sq. ft. growspace really is....

It's soon going to be like trying to stuff 2 pounds of $hit in a 1 pound bag,as my dear old Dad used to say....

So that's about it for now, except for that little plant outside under the kitchen window...
(I'm going to call it a she until she shows me otherwise)
How's she doing,you ask?

Here she is 10 minutes ago-growing a bit:) slower than her 2 indoor buddies, but still growing, despite nightime temps in the mid 30's to mid 40's-(she's a bagseed#3,btw...)

The days are starting to finally get sunny,so she may surprise us all soon...

Well, that's about it for my first installment, but I'll be updating often...

I just wanted to add that I'm really liking that light-lo budget or not-it's surpassing my expectations so far...

@MrSauga -wanted to let you know, I finally got around to doing this:thumb:

Love this budget grow box :bravo:. Out of interest, what are the dimensions of that box?

EDIT: the reason i ask is i was thinking of a similar set up but i was going to use one of these prefabricated "wardrobe" boxes. Wardrobe Box | Cardboard Wardrobe Carton even comes with a rail in the top.... handy for hanging....ermm.. certain things.

Thank you!
The box dimensions are 24"x24"x44"-it could stand to be a
little taller, but so far, it's working ok.

Thank You,Shed! - That was nice to see first thing this morning!
I'll be back in a few- today was harvest day for stage 2 of the NL,so I'm going to post that up in a little while- I'm glad that's done-"harvest fatigue" is a real thing!:)
Although compared to your harvests, mine was a "mini"...

Today is 14 days since the first harvest of the top buds on the Northern Lights,so it was time for stage 2.
Nothing very exciting about the harvest- one thing I did notice was that I could just pull off most of the bigger leaves-like they were about ready to fall off on their own-so that made it a little easier, although a little messier, too.
Here's her last pic in the box- downright ugly, but quite a bit of smoke there

Even uglier out of the box...

And a couple of final bud shots-she got frostier over the last two weeks,so it wasn't a waste of time:
1871841

and a lower bud
1871842

The box hasn't looked like this for about 6 months- quiet, dark, and empty-
but it won't be empty for long-I'm waiting on the new crop to sprout, but they don't seem to be in any hurry...

1871843

This is what's left after trimming- 8.5 oz wet,but there's some big stems on there,
so dry and trimmed will probably end up about 15% of that...
1871847

And here's where they'll hang for the next 6 days or so,with a little usb fan blowing across the room in their general direction...
1871848

And that just about does it for this grow-I'll post up the final weight on the total NL harvest in a week or so.
I'm going to keep this same journal going for the next one, which is going to be autos- Purple Punch, and Granddaddy Purple x Gumberry...

Just waiting on them to sprout,so we can get the next show on the road...

Thanks to you all for following along with this grow-your support means a lot,and I hope to see you all when I get something interesting going again-probably within a week or so...

Of course,I'll have to keep updating on MsCheese's progress-aside from a little food and water, she's practically growing herself out there, but she's fun to watch...
1871869

Hopefully by Monday's update,I'll have 2 new seedlings to report on...

I hope to see you then, and Thanks again for looking-have a great rest of the week!:peace:

Those branches are fat!
She was a husky girl from early on- a lot different than the somewhat spindly Peyote Critical
Spindly or not though, that PC is hands down, the strongest smoke I've ever grown...

Double congratulations!
Thanks,HH ! That was a nice thing to see this morning- Of course, when I first saw the notification from Teddy I thought I was in trouble for something,so it was real nice that I wasn't:)

Congratulations on the MOTM carcass! :yahoo:

Congratulations on the final harvest of your last plant. Holly camoli did she ever put on weight. I know after a grow and I see an empty tent, I’ve got mixed feelings because it’s nice to see an empty tent because the grow is finished (it’s almost peaceful) but I’m also sad because you just stared at those plants for the last 6 months and I quite enjoyed looking at them lol!!

Congrats again carcass!!

Oh, ms.cheese is plugging along very nicely! :meatballs:

I see an empty tent, I’ve got mixed feelings
It's a little odd-the only sound from that room now is the little usb fan blowing toward the drying buds.
I think I'm going to take the light apart and blow the dust out of it..it's got to be pretty dirty in there by now...then ,if the light still works after that...:),I'll be ready for the next grow..

Congrats on the MOTM nomination Carcass, and good luck!
Thanks,MrSauga-
All great members in the running-I'm honored just to be included with them.

Is it just me is the NL the ugliest, but at the same time, the most beautiful looking plant? Im torn between saying it looks like something from Alien or is it something from Avatar's, Pandora?

Either way, bravo :bravo: the smoke looks good

Im looking forward to updates on MsCheese's outdoor adventure :rollit:

It’s almost a peaceful feeling isn’t it? I know when I had my plants flowering my room was very high in humidity and I was glad the grow was over. Looking into the empty tent, I wasn’t stressed anymore wondering what kind of damage I could do to my house. It’s peaceful. Quiet, and relaxing lol.

I’m excited to see your next update carcass!

Your journal is always entertaining, glad your hear!

Monday is upon us,so it must be update time!
Not a good week as far as seeds/seedlings are concerned...
The GDPxGumberry didn't pop,and the Purple Punch popped on Saturday, but it's not looking too good either...
1875012

The thing is,it's looked just like that since Saturday afternoon...
Since it's an auto, and it's just not growing right, I can't afford to wait for it to get straightened out, because by the time it does,it could be flowering,or real close to it.

It could just end up being a SPOG (explained here by master grower @InTheShed )
SO...I'm soaking 2 more seeds-this time in distilled water-the first two were soaked in pH'd tap water- I don't know if that had any bearing on the crappy outcome, but I figured I'd eliminate it as a possible cause of these first two being pretty much "duds"
On the off chance that I end up with 3 plants, one (the SPOG) will end up outside next to Ms.Cheese..
Here's attempt #2 on the warmer-dropped the PP yesterday, and the GDP this morning:
1875018

We'll see how these go,hopefully better than the first two (fingers crossed)
Now lets take a look at the one plant that's actually growing, MsCheese (not little MsCheese anymore)-she's 28 inches tall now-only grew 4" last week ,but we only had 3 days of full sun:
1875024

Not flowering yet,so she may end up getting "full size" out there (whatever that is:)

A top shot to see the branching a little better...or not (and yes,for some unknown reason, I planted her a little too close to the house, but she's dealing with it pretty well)
1875031

She's already pretty smelly, I've been instructed by Mrs.C to keep the kitchen windows closed because, inexplicably, she doesn't like that smell....

Ms.Cheese had a few caterpillars eating on her earlier in the week, but a spray of Safer Caterpillar Killer fixed her up real quick (plus I mashed the 2 that I found)....they left some marks, but didn't slow her down a bit...
1875043

1875044

A little leaf damage is to be expected on outdoor plants,no big deal once you find and fix the cause.

That's about it for this somewhat disappointing week-I'm hopeful that this new set of seeds do what they're supposed to- I'll let you know how that goes...

Thanks for looking,I appreciate the support!

Hope everyone's plants are doing well, and you all have a great week!:peace:
