Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

That’s because you normally post an awesome update on Tuesday.
Thanks for the kind words, Boo!

Was gonna ask if those were dolla store buys but, well, see below...

Got them on Zon?
Yes I did - $66.00 and free shipping- they should last at least 6 years- I'd gone through about ten of the cheapies in a little over a year...plus, the dollar store doesn't stock fans during the winter, so I had to do something...
I think you should ask for a new wardrobe box for Xmas.
Nah! I just tuned mine up (vacuumed it out & patched some holes) so it's good to go for another year or so
@MrSauga We have another customer!
I'll have to stick to suction cups till I get some 3 gallon geopots! (I've got 7's and 10's)
Then I might bust out that grommet kit I've had for at least 20 years...

Time for a little Tuesday update...
I hope everyone's day is going great!

The SuperSilver Haze auto has been doing pretty well- not getting much taller yet, but considerably wider than a week ago...She's also getting nice n branchy, which means plenty of budsites...
She's 37 days old today, growing in 3 gallons of ProMix HP.

The usual Saugaview®:

She's 6.5" tall now, up from apx 4" a week ago..

A little different angle:
She's still on 4g/gal of MegaCrop+ 4ml/gal Silica Blast, and loving it- she's pretty healthy so far...
1607458671763.jpeg

Just thought I'd throw in a pic of my hi-tech air circulation system.... ;) ..(2 x 120mm Infinity S3's)
There's also 3 more of those fans in there- 1 intake + 2 exhausts, but they don't show in the pic...
They're 3 speed usb fans- I vary the speeds to control the temperature in the box...
1607458830860.jpeg

Her training is pretty much done, but the tie downs will stay on till after the stretch...which hasn't happened yet, because she's not flowering yet...(!) Probably any day now, but not yet!

Close up of my special "infinitely adjustable" anchors for holding her outer branches down...
Yeah, they're just suction cups- but they stay "stuck" remarkably well...
1607459856704.jpeg

That's about all there is for today- This plant is definitely heading in the right direction after a rather slow start (at least it seemed slow to me...)
I like the fact that she's a late bloomer- The extra veg time will do her nothing but good...
This one's going to be around awhile- she also has a long flowering time, of up to 90 days....

Thanks for looking, I appreciate the support!
Please, stay safe out there- 2020 is almost over, but, unfortunately, covid19 isn't....:peace:
So beautiful Carcass:)

I had to take the hand cuffs off my girls to treat their lice and they are growing up rather than out. Personally I prefer out. They look so thick and lush.

The Rolls Royce of tiedowns...
All this grommet talk
All this talk made me go look for my grommet kit- It wasn't where I thought it was, so it may never be heard from again!
GPTZ just went up $3.50.
Sweet! (but I don't know what GPTZ is...:hmmmm:)
how do you get your canopy so pristine
Old man + plenty of time + only one plant + ocd = flat canopy;)...
So beautiful Carcass
Thanks for the compliment, Tra!

I've got to do "out" or I'll run out of headroom real fast, with only 37" from floor to light...
Nothing wrong with them growing "up" if you've got the room..

Morning Carcass :ciao: I am looking to increase the airflow in my little cabinet and think these fans might work really well. I’m curious about the usb aspect.....is that to daisy chain them or do you need to have a usb-connection type power source? Hopefully that makes sense. :thanks:

Good Afternoon, Boo!
I think they'd work great in your cabinet!
All you need to power them is a little usb adapter/charger, like this:
1607715974826.jpeg

They're a couple of bucks at the dollar store- some of them look a little different, but any usb adapter/charger will work.
You can daisy chain the fans if you want- the only drawback to that is that whatever speed the first fan in the chain is set to, the rest of the fans will run at that speed, which isn't a problem if you're just going to run them all on high speed.
I use one usb adapter/charger per fan, because (depending on the temperature) I run mine at various speeds.
If you're going to order them on the Zon, I'm sure you can just get the usb adapters there.
Just type "USB Wall Charger" in the search box, and a bunch of choices will come up...

AC Infinity is the brand, and A1-MPF120A is the model # of the ones I use-
Just type "Infinity Multifan S3" in the Am*zon search box and they'll come up.

You can also remove the fan grilles (guards) to let them move a bit more air- just keep your fingers away from them if you do this- they will cut you (speaking from experience :) )

Hey Carcass, nice work on the Super Silver Haze. It's looking pretty good, considering the slow start.
Then I might bust out that grommet kit I've had for at least 20 years...
This was pretty funny to me, as I was cleaning and organizing my work bench recently, and I came across a grommet kit that I think I've had for about 20 yrs as well. :laughtwo:
You should check out @OregonHempFlower - they've got a great selection of (affordable) cbd/cbg products... If you order something from them, use the coupon code "420mag1"at checkout, to save 20%-helluva deal!
By the way, I did go to @OregonHempFlower and bought the cbg isolate as well as an ounce of their Silver Haze CBG flower. I added some of the isolate to my latest batch of cbd gummies to get some entourage effect with the cbd. I really like it so far. Thanks for the tip!

Awesome! Thanks so much Carcass!
You're very Welcome, Boo! Those fans should last you for years!

I haven't located mine yet, but it's here somewhere...
nice work on the Super Silver Haze. It's looking pretty good, considering the slow start.
Thanks, Beez! I think part of the reason for the slow start is that she may not be an auto after all- today's day 40, and still no flower action...So I may be flipping her to 12/12 pretty soon here...been awhile since I've grown a photo in that box..
Thanks for the tip!
You're Welcome, Beez!
@13Goody13 told me about them, so I'm just passing it along...they're definitely a great place to deal with!

:thedoubletake: Whhhaat? I still have faith in her. This is why:

Up-potted her on Thursday to a 3 gallon (day 11), then she got topped on Sunday (day 14)
She was born on 3 Nov? Did you up pot her because she was rootbound, and did you top her because she needed it? I’m not trying to be sarcastic - I ask because for me, it seems like it’s a race to make that little plant get a good root system and then get her topped before she goes into flower. It also seems like I am making those decisions “in the moment” depending on how she looks day to day. I think maybe she was a slow starter and then got a little more slowed with the up pot and topping? Hopefully that made sense. Oh, and I have a couple of months experience so.....there’s that. :cheesygrinsmiley:

She wasn't rootbound when I uppotted her, but her roots were coming out the bottom
of the solo cup- That's how I gauge when to transplant, plus I like to get that behind her a few days before the topping.
And she didn't really "need" topping, but node 4 was finally long enough to chop off 3 days after moving into her new home, and I always top above node 3, to help keep them fairly short.

It is kind of like a race- that's why I was getting all impatient about her slow growing- she was actually only 4 or 5 days behind, but that can make a big difference in an auto.

I think maybe she was a slow starter and then got a little more slowed with the up pot and topping
That could be the case, although it's never made much of a difference in the other autos I've grown...
She does have the little flower "nubs" all over, but no pistils have popped out yet, so I'm thinking of giving her till day 45, and if she hasn't made any more progress flower-wise, I'll flip her to 12/12.
It should work out fine. The only thing that sorta worries me, is that SSH photos are supposed to be fairly tall plants...so the trick will be keeping her short enough to fit in the box...(22" tall is the apx height limit)
I've done it before, so it's definitely possible- just takes a little more work :)

I’ve been looking at that SSH and didn’t pull the trigger this time.... I would think the nubs are a good indication, no? If she is an auto and the only one in the tent, how can you flatten her wide enough (wider than the circumference of the pot?) to take away some of the height? Those suction cups thingys may help! I believe she will have pistils in the next 5 days....I’m that kind of gal. :battingeyelashes:

Barbecue skewers!
Exactly!
Each skewer is holding a branch down, otherwise the canopy would be very uneven.
Once they get past the edge of the pot, the suction cups do the job...
They're also "steering" the branches to the open spots so they don't end up shading each other...
As long as they all get good light, they'll grow into a decent cola

Here's a shot of what the skewer looks like, with the nifty adjustable hook...
this is a short one- some are a foot long, for when she gets a bit older (and taller)
1607731274310.jpeg

I'll need to keep things tied down till after the stretch, then I can usually let most of the branches
just do their thing.
It's basically just quadline training, except I've got 7 main branches instead of the usual 4

Have you checked out the quadline thread, Boo? It has a bunch of good info about this process..
Most of what you'll need to know is in the first few pages:

Is it safe to assume you invented and made those yourself? :cheesygrinsmiley: With help. From the dollar store? Very nifty!

Thank you for that Carcass! I had not seen it yet. I looked at a few pages last night and will def spend more time on it this weekend. :thanks:

That's a very safe assumption! They're easy to make, and you only need to make them once because they last forever...I've used the same ones for my last 4 or 5 grows.
Pretty good return on a 30¢ investment... :)

Thank you for that Carcass!
You're Welcome, Boo!
Quadlining is what keeps my plants from outgrowing "the box"...granted,some of them end up a little too short:straightface:, but even the shorties end up yielding quite a bit of pot- My last plant (Wedding Cheesecake auto) was just 17" tall, but yielded 7oz of very potent smoke...

I'm a simple man.. I see "skewer", I press "Like".

On a more serious note, I love this. This is what I was looking for. Would've made organising my quadline a lot simpler.
