@jay, yep exact same thing mate, just my bottom part is a dark blue plastic so it dont let any light in, only used it once as i just wanted to try it, worked ok but i grow in soil so prefer to clone direct into soil as its not causing the plant or roots any stress when i transplant, if i was growing hydro then id use a bubble cloner, but yep same as yours and pretty much the same size.
@canna, i mean the roots need to be totally dark so make sure their is no light getting into where the water is else it causes algae to grow and the roots wont grow and the stems just rot,
so your good with the lights, just keep the res part dark.
sounds like you got the ph pen sorted, ive not needed to leave mine that long, maybe try mixing the nutes then check the ph after 5min so its all mixed in properly then you may got a quicker reading, it takes me about 15 seconds to get the reading on the same pen,
with the nutrients it says mix so much per gallon, well the dogget simpson product says 1 table spoon per gallon, but as its powder its hard to judge 1 table spoon as you can heap it on and end up giving 1.5 table spoons, so i bought these cooking things that are like tiny bowls and i just scoop it up then level it off with a knife, much easier than using spoons, with liquid nutes i used kids cough medicine things as they let you suck up the nutrients and tells you how much to the ml,
i dont mix up a gallon at a time how ever, each day my 2ltr dwc needs a fresh batch of nutes, every 24 to 36 hours the res is empty, so i use 2ltr pop bottles and use them as 2ltr is half a gallon ish, so i pour water into a jug then mix in half the stated dose, then pour that into the 2ltr pop bottle and fill it up with water, then i shake the life out of it to make sure its all mixed up then feed the plants.
if im mixing up a gallon then i use a big jug or bucket with measure on it and mix it that way, but i usually just do a couple of 2ltr pop bottles as its easier to move about and can screw the lid on while i walk to the plants, its just as easy to mix up 2ltr as it is a gallon, but some days i dont need a gallon so it would be sitting around till i need it, its ok to store it for a couple of days after its mixed but keep it cool. or just mix up smaller amounts like 2ltr worth and add half the stated dose per gallon
