Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hi Canna,

Just dropping by to check in and I see your plants are chugging along beautifully! Congrats!!!!

Have to share with you that I thought your proposed use of your wardrobe as a drying space/room was so ingenious I purchased one yesterday to use for my crop! I'm harvesting first thing in the morning! YEA!!! Wish I had something suitable around that I could repurpose, but don't and thought the wardrobe a great solution. Thanks again for sharing your grow and your ideas!

Hey Tanr! :thanks:You'll probably be using the wardrobe closet sooner than I will. Let me know how it works out for you!

Hey Canna...great story...plants are looking good ...1 month old huh...Happy birthday buddy :thumb:
Thanks Jay233, glad you like the story. I like to try to keep a captive audience during the slow times.:biglaugh:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

I am having problems too. I wanted to upload a video, but only way I found I had to embed it via youtube. I am not going to do that. Last thing I need is some relative recognizing my back yard ha ha. I found a crazy mutation today. One Calyx 3 pistils! Hopefully it is 1.5X as potent as normal. I will see if I can put up some pics since I can't figure out the video. Maybe I will ask another member :?

Wow, that sounds like a great pic to look at. Can't wait to see it. :cheesygrinsmiley:
If you find anything out, let me know...on the pics trouble. I'll check in the morning. Nite all!:ciao:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hey Canna,

I usually re size, rotate and edit my Pics before I upload them. I don't think the site has any tool to do this once the pic is uploaded. Not sure on the Video but looks like you will have to link to somewhere off-site.

Hi Techman! I always do the same and make sure they are under the maximum size for uploading as I did with the ones I"m trying to load. It just isn't processing to the gallery. Shows in the queue, and says they processed...but they are not there.
Hopefully will get an answer today. I'm going to try do some of the photos at work on a different computer and see if that will do anything.
Have a great day!

Uploading grow pics at work.....LOL!!!

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Okay, it took some doing but I finally managed to get the pics to the gallery. I am still not clear what the problem was, but using a different computer with several attempts finally got them there.
;-)
So here are the Birthday kids, one month old!

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

I have never had to resize any pics before posting but 1 time I got a failure message due to files being too small which I didnt understand because I used the same camera as always. I just refreshed and tried again and it worked without having to re upload or anything.

When you want to remove a pic from the que before it is posted to your gallery just click the little box with the check mark in it and that pic wont upload to the site. As far as deleting from the site I dont think you can or I havent seen a way to yet anyway. That would be a nice option to have in some cases.

and as for the video uploading, I dont have a youtube account myself and never really wanted one but I think video updates are pretty cool so I just might sign up so I can post them in the future. Would be better if we could just post video files rather than from a youtube account.

Plants look good Canna, Theyre gonna start growin fast for ya now. I havent used CFLs so I cant really say how they will act but most people talk about plants stretching after they flip to 12/12. I used HPS for veg and flower in the past and didnt have much if any stretching at that time. I used MH for veg this round and just flipped to 12/12 with HPS yesterday so Im hoping they dont get too tall now with the stretching.

My point is, when deciding on when to change the light schedule you need to take your space into consideration and try to make sure you wont run into problems after this stretch happens. Ive read that they can double in height or possibly more during that 2 week stretch period and with CFLS needing to be closer to the plants you may want to flip sooner than later to make sure you get good lighting to the whole plant rather than just the top 1/2 or 1/3, or you would have to buy more lights to cover the whole plant. Smaller plants mean less yield in most cases but if you have an 18 inch plant that produces well rather than a 3 foot plant that dont get enough light to produce well then youre better off with the smaller plant and with less veg time you use less nutes and you get a harvest sooner.

Good information Cas! I did have the small image error a couple of times also. Now I see there are double images in the post, I tried to delete the copy image and it wound up deleting a different one. So the frustration for today is done, just click on one image and it will take you to the gallery to see them all for Day 31.
ON the lighting, I am prepared for the growth I hope. LOL I will have additional CFL'S for the sides and pointing up into the plants when the time comes, along with reflective curtains to get that light all around the plants. It will be a totally different area for the flowering with a lot more ceiling space, so if they do get taller it shouldn't be a problem.
Can't wait to see your girls flower up! :circle-of-love:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

plants look great,

when i upload i use internet explorer, if you use firefox you have to click on each file and you can only upload 8 at a time, if you use internet explorer you can upload as many as you like with one click, just scroll down to where the process button normaly is then their is an option to locate files or something similar, then you find the file on comp then open it and highlight all the pics then it lets you load as many as you like with just 1 click,
i think it would be much easier if their was a quicker way of getting them on our journals though, doing one at a time is a bit of a pain, would be good if we could copy n paste all the pics and bring them all to the journal with 1 click,

if your white widow x skunk is same pheno as mine then you will have huge fan leaves, i had to remove some as they was totally blocking all light so used lst and pulled the plant over on its side to give me 10 main shoots growing up and i left the top set of fan leaves on and their now bigger than a dinner plate.

Hey DonP, without knowing it you answered a question I was just going to send to RicoRico and here. Those fan leaves are huge on some of the LST'd plants and are blocking the stems. So I was going to ask if you guys remove them somehow. LOL Thanks a bunch!:thanks:

On another note, regarding building a carbon filter...I was talking with a friend today who used to grow and he says I can use dryer sheets soaked in fabric softener to take care of the slight smell in the beginning. I'm going to make some of those up over the weekend and hang them in a couple places in the room and see what happens.:cheesygrinsmiley:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

cool no worries, some plants i remove leaves and others i dont, if a leaf is blocking light to the rest of the plant then i remove it, you see the benefit pretty quick as the new growth starts at the places that was shaded.

you can make your own carbon filter which isnt to difficult, you can buy activated carbon from pet shops that sell fish as its used inside fish tank filters, its just grains of activated carbon and costs next to nothing, so you can make a carbon filter that way but you would need a decent fan to force the air through the filter, you can use pretty much anything in veg to stop the smells, pot pouri or something similar does a good job, plug in air freshners stop all smells in veg, when your in flower then you have problems with smell, plug in air fresheners wont get rid of the smell, but i use spray air fresheners, you can buy ones that have batteries in them and mount them near the ceiling in the corner of the room then every 30min or how ever often you want it sprays the freshener, the kind they use in some toilets, you can buy them online and its just like a small can of air freshener that sprays when ever you want it to,

ona gel is another option, you can get a bucket with a lid, then in the lid cut a hole so you can mount a fan or if your using 12v fans then you can cut 2 holes and mount 2 small computer fans into the lid so their pushing air into the bucket, then drill a load of holes around the sides of the bucket sort of half way down, then put some ona crystals in then add an inch or 2 of water, that works as a scrubber and neutralises the smells,

I use Google Chrome for everything and I'm able to upload many pics at once to the site. Last night, and this morning just seemed to be glitchy on it at the 420 site.
I do agree with you on pasting one pic at a time on posts, It's hard to remember which pic you already clicked on and you wind up with duplicate images. Trying it using thumbnails is even tougher because there is so much html to read to get to the one you think you double posted. I would like to see each thumbnail have the image name on it, or under it in the selection pop up so you can see which image name you have on the post already. I hope that makes sense. LOL

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

ok, chrome must be the same then, i know with firefox when i click on gallery then upload their is then 10 boxes and you have to click on one box and go and locate one pic on computer and then click on the 2nd box and go find the 2nd pic on computer so it only lets you do it in batches of 10 but you cant do a whole file using firefox, i use firefox as my browers as it dont have all the crap google and internet explorer have so i find it much quicker, but for uploading pics i open internet explorer and do it that was as its much quicker.

with uploading pics to a journal i think it would be good if it worked the same as it does with smileys, you just click on them and it enters it into the text box, or if we could go to gallery and click on the pics we want then paste them all over into the journal, its a slow process using the method we use now and i dont think it would be to hard to update the site to change the way pics are uploaded to journals, ive had to edit my posts a few times when ive put pics in twice or wrote a comment about a pic only to find out i had edited the wrong one into my journal

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

It's funny how many people don't like google chrome, I used to use internet explorer..then went to something like "mozilla", then firefox and finally to google chrome. I stuck with chrome because I LOVE the incognito feature!:cheesygrinsmiley:
Totally agree with you on the insertion of pictures to a post, it seems a daunting task as it is currently.
But....it's a great site as is!:420:

Hey Mate! Forgot to ask...when you remove the fan leaves to get light to the new growth, do you cut them off clear at the stem or just part of the leaf?
Then what do you do with the leaves you cut off? Any good fer' anything?:thanks:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

If I knew how to help you I would...I'm still trying to get my pics right side up:)
Hey bud,
try one of these online picture resizers if you have your images on your computer or android and you don't have photo editing software.
Go to Gallery at the top of this page, then choose How to guides.
There is a post there about online pic resizers. scroll down a little to find it.
I tried to post them here but they didn't show up as links.
I'll try this one:
Free Online Picture Resizer - Crop and Resize photos, images, or pictures online for FREE!

I tested the one above and found it quite easy. Give your photo plenty of time to load if it's a large file. What you are looking for when you get your photo there is to "rotate 90 degrees". Click on the save button and then a screen will ask you to save where you want it, your computer or disk or whatever you are using. Now you have a sideways pic that is right side up! Maybe you could this with the ones already posted sideways, upload them to the gallery and then re-post them. There's no way that I can see to edit what we already have in galleries.
Let me know if that helps ya. :thumb:
P.S. don't click on any advertising or downloads buttons. You are looking for the "Browse" button. There's a little black box that says "start here" at the "browse" button. Advertising is really tricky sometimes, you have to watch what you click on. It will usually say in very small letters "ad". ;-)

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

While waiting for the cutting fan leaves question, I went down and looked at the plants and moved some fan leaves out of the way to see the new growth. It struck me that I could use those little bent coat hanger stakes to pull the fan leaves out of the way.
So I did that and now the new growth is getting light:

And I found another item to re-purpose. I keep bumping into the fans and the clip on lights, so I found an old rolling IV/Drip stand from taking care of a cancer patient a few years back. I clipped the little fans and a couple of lights to it and now I can just roll it all out of the way when I'm watering or otherwise tending to the kids.
