i totally agree with the hps over cfls but to be fair cfls work and you will grow bud, problem is you need around the same amount of watts to get even close to what a hps can do, i think cfls should be used for seedlings/clones and first couple weeks of veg due to the very tight node spacing cfls give.

you can cure your bud in anything, i was given a load of old mason jars but i also use them plastic tupperware type tubs that seal air tight, their the ones you see on the shopping channels where they put a mobile phone in side and stick the tub under water, as long as its air tight then it will cure,

not tried paper bag method so cant comment, the main problem with jars and air tight tubs is if the bud is not dry enough then within 24 hours it can turn mouldy, so what i do is let the bud hang dry or dry on racks, then when the bud feels dry and the stem is able to snap instead of bend i then put the buds into jars but leave the lid off, 12 hours later i tip the buds out and you can tell the moisture has raised as the buds feel moist again, so i let them stand again on racks on on paper until dry and repeat this process once or twice depeding on results, once its stays dry enough with the lids off i then put the lids on and open 2 or 3 times a day and tip the buds out again and check moisture, if its moist leave the buds out if its ok they can go back in, once the moisture is stable you can then just burp the jars but i still tip the buds out every other day to stop them sticking together for at least the first week then put them back in,

Hi DP! Thanks for all the info on the bud drying, I will be using mason jars so that helps a lot on the method. The stems are getting pretty dry, although they don't "snap" yet..they don't really bend either. I think one more day ought to do it on the trays.

Thanks also on the comments with the CFL's and node spacing, I hadn't thought of that point. I will be using CFL during veg for awhile anyway, so good to know there is a great point in doing so. ;-)

Speaking of this, I've been meaning to ask...how many days did it take for you to get roots and do you have the stem tips submerged or slightly above the water?

Hi Jamthe3,
it was a few days. Can't remember exactly. I have very small roots poking, but they are roots. I have the stem tips above the water so they are getting bubble splashes on them. Seems to work fine.

im playing catch up myself,

just go easy on the cure process, its very easy to turn a jar of buds to mould, it happened to me within 24 hours, i thought the buds was dry enough and went out for the day, came back late and the jar had fur growing on top of the buds, so it dont take long to go wrong,
thats why i changed the cure process by putting the buds in the jars and leave the lids off for the first couple of days and keep tipping the buds out once or twice a day to stop them sweating, you will find that as soon as the buds are touching each other the moisture rises and the buds feel damp again, so go easy the first couple of days,

im sure you will be ok but would hate to see all your hard work ruined,
what i found very strange was this, the jar that went bad i took the lid off and left it on the side so i could throw the buds out the next day in the trash, but when i got up the buds looked normal, no signs of fur or anything else in the jar, so i tipped the buds out and checked them with a scope and again no signs of anything bad at all, ive not smoked any of it ive still got it in a jar and its dry and cured now and looks and smells amazing, but the day it had fur on it it smelled really bad but now it stinks like bud should, it looks like bud should, im sure all the fungus or what ever it was should be dead by now but until i am told its ok i wont be using it,

but once it looked ok the next day i just left it in the jar with the lid off, after 10 days i put the lid on and labled the jar and its sat in the cupboard for nearly 2 years now so its had a really long cure, i open the jar and it smells like it should and the buds look and feel like they should, but not been brave enough to roll a joint with it just in case it makes me ill,

i told a close friend and he said he would smoke it so might let him give it a try, if i just bought it off someone id never know as it looks and smells like it should,

so just go easy the first few days.

Thanks, I made one last week and am a little dissappointed so far. I'll try lifting the stem tips above the water on the next batch and see if it works faster.

I've made a formula here for determining electric use per hour with lighting. If anyone sees an error with the formula, could you let me know please?
I know that you can calculate kilowatt-hour from watts and hours. You can't convert watt to kilowatt-hour unit since watt and kilowatt-hour unit represent different quantities

Here's what I have:

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ME PER HOUR OR PER MONTH TO RUN MY LIGHTS?

So, let’s do this for a 400W hps light on 12/12 light schedule:

To convert watts to kwh hour do the following:

kilowatt-hour = watt × hour / 1000
400w x 12 hours divided by 1000 = 4.8 kwh

Now determine the cost per hour of 4.8kwh (or 0.480)

kilowatts X unit cost (your local cost per kwh) = cost per hour
My local unit cost is approx. .153 per kwh:

0.480 x 0.153 = 0.07344 per kwh
.07 cents per kwh x 12 hours = .84 cents per 12 hour cycle
.84 x 30 days = $25.20 per month to run a 400W hps light

Hi Canna, nice harvest, :thumb: I like to grind some trim up real fine and decarbonize it in a jelly jar in the oven for a couple of hours and then use it to keep a small Tupperware tub full of honey slide. I then use the slide to make p'nut butter sandwiches (1/2). I like the taste and it is easy to medicate with it. You can easily control the strength by adding more mmj or honey, based on the effect it has on you. I usually have a jelly jar with the decarb in the cupboard so I don't run out. The usual warning goes with this--it takes 1 to 1 1/2 hrs for this to take effect so be careful about licking the stirring tools after you make the slide and a sandwich or p'nut crackers which are good also.

your lighting maths looks good to me.

i need to work out what my lights using as the last few months my electric bill is crazy high and im not even sure why.
im easily paying between £40 and £60 per month for the whole property and im only running 1 400watt light and dont use much electric around the home, my electric costs have shot up for some reason and nothings changed, i know the price went up but only by a couple of pence a day so that shouldnt make a huge difference, im always topping my meter up at the shop.

I hear ya DP, mine went extremely high last month too. Now that I know what I used in the grow room, I will have to look elsewhere for the cause. Furnace fan (outdoor woodburner) runs constantly, I need to check how much that is using.
I was checking my usage daily and slacked off last month. If I had been doing that I probably could have nailed the cause right away.
Oh well.....LOL

i dont use anything different to what i was using months ago yet my electric bill has nearly doubled, something clearly not right somewhere,

i got one of them elecric monitor things i got free from my energy company a while back so ill dig that out, it clips around the wires by the electric meter and you set the price per unit then it tells you how much a day your using, but it also has a feature on it that allows me to check each appliance, i just have to switch the appliance off at the plug then check what the meter says im using, then i turn the plus on and see what it bumps it up to then i have some idea of how much each appliance is using, ill dig it out tomorrow and see whats going on and whats costing me this extra money

I put mmj in a jelly or Prego jar, depending on how much I want/need. Put the lid on, hold the jar horizontally and shake to evenly distribute, lay it on its side on your oven rack, turn the oven on 200 (preheating is not needed), I usually bake 2 hrs, reshaking it every 1/2hr or so. Let it cool down completely in the oven with the lid on.

Zap the honey you are going to use so it is nice and runny, add your mmj--I don't really use a set amount of either I go by the taste and color (dark greenish black). Two teaspoons of this mixture on 1/2 a sandwich can go a long ways. Store extra decarb in its jar with the lid on tight.

Sometimes I medicate conventionaly :blunt: until the sandwich kicks in

BTW you'd be surprised at how much that fan on your furnace draws. I had a similar problem awhile back. My water pump sprang a leak in a pipe joint behind the pump where I couldn't see it, finally found and fixed it. My power bill dropped almost in half! :tokin:

Awesome! I'm going to try this for sure. I'll probably put these instructions on my blog too, if that's okay with you?

On the wood burner fan, it's actually double fans on that thing. So I'm thinking it's a major draw right now on my power consumption. Nothing I can do about that until this frigid cold is gone here. :-(

You surely may use it, all I did was combine what I learned from a couple of threads and came up with a

simpler way to make the slide.

BTW the mmj is ready to use after it is decarbed, I also use it in p'nut butter cookies, or snickerdoodles.

I also received my new seed by the post today, so now I'm in sort of a mind bend on which to start with. I

have about 40 seeds to choose from, mostly autos for winter. I'll start and veg my outdoor plants about the

end of March or April :tokin:

Okay friends, I'm not missing. LOL I have all my buds in jars to cure. The smell of the white widow is really nice. The Master Kush isn't too bad, I'll give that some time yet. I've been opening the jars for air circulation a couple times a day. I put them in Jars Friday night.

And I finally have my cannabutter brewing in the crockpot!! First thing I'm making is choco chip cookies and I will be freezing some of the cookie dough for later. ;-) I will post pics when completed.

I guess I'll post this here too. I harvested my seeds from my Master Kush x White Widow cross pollination experiment. I wound up with 96 purty ones and only 4 green.
