Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

First up today, LOLA the graft girl. Damn, I have to look up the clone strain I used for her again for the graft. I keep forgetting because there were so many attempts before I got one I liked. LOL

Carnival is catching up. She was put outside later than the rest of them. I think her stretch is over with now and she's budding up nicely:

Well, I have to say.....there is nothing that makes me feel more at ease with an outdoor grow than to go out and look for critters (even with the jewelers headset on, deep into the buds) and see NO WORMS! Matter of fact, I saw nothing of any kind of critter except a couple of the ever present leaf hoppers who dropped off immediately as I sprayed the neem oil.

So, one of the two..either the Diomotaceous Earth or the Neem oil has been a miracle for me here. I'm thinking the DE did the trick in the beginning because the bug population stopped after I started spraying with that. The neem oil is probably helping things along.
Last year was pure hell with worms and every other kind of nasty critter. I keep going out there expecting bad things, and keep coming back in happy.

I just might do this again next year.

Have to be careful with the neem oil though, I know of another grower who used it with a fervor trying eradicate a bad infestation and it wound up hurting the plants.

I will have some outdoor bud and plant pics later today. Beautiful sun shine here today, and we're supposed to be in the 80's all week.

I am very happy with my compost pile so far too. Wish I had started one of those years ago.

Oh yeah. Isn't it great to have a moment of success. Good for you Cannafan.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

That worm problem gave me a crazy thought.....

Back when we were kids, my brothers and I made something we called an "electric worm rod" to get worms for fishing. It was a metal rod hooked to a power cord, and we would put it in the ground, plug it in and watch all of the worms in the area of it come to the surface.
I wouldn't suggest anyone doing that, it was pretty dumb to go playing around with electricity...but it worked. The worms died within hours of it, be we got our use of them.

Wouldn't it be nice to have something like that to stick into the buds and drive those little basterds out??

Hmmm......

:circle-of-love:
Funny u say this.....I was looking for the jumper cables and a battery to hook up to my plants....fry them all...just fry them

But alas I realized I can't do that only cuz I don't know what kind of effect that would have on my buds.

So much to learn....so many journals to follow

Okay, the small army is patrolling my two indoor girls for those nasty little Thrips and gnats.

They came inside a cute little burlap breathable bag and I could see them moving around after about ten minutes out of the fridge:

I let about a dozen loose on the indoor girls. That small bathroom is closed off, so they should stay in there pretty good. I also put a small coffee container lid on top of the soil in each of the two pots with some water in it. Ladybugs have to have water too. ;-)

What a pretty deep red they are.

I plan on getting some from the nursery next season...and since I keep marigolds around they will stick around. One more beneficial bug to add to my defense

I feel bad about posting success when others are having such a problem with the worms this year. But, I do want to document what worked here as well. So far.......I'm not counting chickens before they hatch. :bitingnails:

Believe or not....well most here will believe it (I'm not afraid to try anything.) I have an idea in mind to test on an outdoor plant that isn't doing all that great, if I see any of those worms embedded in the buds.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

oooh...page 300. Thanks everyone! :thanks:

Here's the two pond girls that are left. They aren't more than two feet high, and there is probably only going to be one main cola and a couple of small ones on the sides. I forgot to get full length pics, but the leaves are in terrible shape towards the bottoms still. There just isn't enough going on in that soil apparently.
This is where the worms and the Shield bugs were the worst last year. They both got Neem before the pics:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Happy 300 :yahoo: I went out to the garden shack and they are not near as bad as I was told... I see more mite damage than anything else and they were taken care of some time back and have not returned... I stripped all the girls really hard and checked every bud and didn't find a single worm so I threw some moth balls around and I think they will be fine... If they can stand it a few more weeks it will make the difference between hummm and WOW... I really need to take the time next year to prepare the area a little better... I think if I literally work moth ball in the ground during the winter and early spring and plant more marigolds and maybe ever some rosemary... obviously they don't like it...:;): and get a bag of lady bugs for there too... Life will be much easier...:thanks:....:circle-of-love:

I know Heiroom mentioned the moth balls, and it's something worth trying. I hate those things, the smell is something I can just not tolerate. Hopefully I can get by without trying those.
So glad to read that you didn't find any of those crawly bud destroyers! :yahoo:

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I have all but two of the germed seeds planted today. The only two I'm waiting on are Caramelo, and surprise..surprise...Purple Paralysis, who has yet to even crack open.

seeds_planted1.jpg

That Caramelo seed was verrrrry tiny. But I only had one. :(

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I'm trying one more trick on the Purple Paralysis (apparently that was my last seed of that bad batch). I put a shot of hydrogen peroxide in some water and it went back in. Let's see what happens overnight. Probably drowning it, but if it isn't cracking open...doesn't make much difference to me at this point.

Fingers crossed.

I was watching a YouTube video on making traps to hang in the trees

I am for sure going to do that. I have cats so moth balls is a no go for me. I know the love love love the dill ferns....so I will plant some of those away from the plants and near the traps.

I have been finding the moths, walking around the yard I will see them in the grass. My foot stomps pretty hard when I want it to.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I did find that I had two Purple Paralysis seeds left. I put them in the wrong spot in my seed binder.
So, I put one in with Hydrogen Peroxide water with the stubborn one, and one in plain water. I sure hope something happens with at least ONE of these seeds. Hydrogen peroxide is supposed to be an antibacterial/antifungal agent.

I've already tried the soak a couple hours and then straight to soil with this batch in the past. No worky on that either.

There must be something about the seeds here recently or something we can learn from the Farmer's Almanac and moon phases. I had 4 for 4 of the classics I wanted to grow but one failed in the soil. Its replacement came up ok but I had at least 4 freebies that were duds.

It's not just me. I read about a bunch of failures by some good growers. :thedoubletake:

{{singing}}...

"Paranoia....deep destroyer"...... gave me a thought. MAYBE customs has found a way of forcing us to not order by getting into our packages and injecting "don't germ" and "don't grow" formulas into our seeds.:rofl::rofl:
