Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Circuit,
now you have me thinking about surfactants again, to help the oil stay mixed. Oil and water don't mix and the bulk lotions have water in them, right?

LOL more research.....good thing I have some time to do it for awhile.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Regarding ordering a still, be aware that any distilling equipment shipped or sold in the US, is reported to the US Treasury Department. I found this out when I got a letter from them about a "potential violation of law." Been waiting for a visit for a few years now...

The bulk lotions offered seem to have some emulsifier added already, I am liking the sound of the "premium" blend because of consistency, looking for a thick, whipped compound, so that it forms peaks when stirred. Thinking easier to apply like that. The amount of cannabis oil to blend in has me stymied. Not clear about how the THC is involved with topical administration. I did take some of the mixture that I put into edible caps, and apply it to my skin, on an area that had a basal cell carcinoma removed 7 years ago, and it made the skin a little softer, but no other effect that I could notice, probably due to the coconut oil. But this lotion I'd like to have some actual pain reduction effect. Anti-skin cancer effects would be welcome as well.

Do you have a resource to read up on that point? And, does this include ordering a home water distiller, of which are available all over the net?

For my own education purposes. :)

And what a lovely bud view you have there! :goodjob:

Edit: Here's what I came up with so far on the legality of owning stills:

1. Americans can own a still, but it must be no larger than 1 gallon, and may only be used for water purification or the extraction of essential oils from plants.
2. Dealers/manufacturers of stills in the United States must surrender any address or other info on any customer who buys a still to the BATF, when they request it.(no warrant is required.)

This tells me that those who are (Manufacturers and Dealers) selling the still don't have to report it unless the government requests it.

Any comments, or other information is welcome! I am very interested in getting this information.

Here's some info on the TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Trade Bureau), see item S4 and click the link there for the laws on distilling:

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Well, the ultimate test for my newly made pain creme is now underway.

I was happily tending to sprouts/seedlings bent over a table and a sharp pain went across the lower back at the hips. I know this too well.
A nerve or something right there will get pinched somehow and I'm hurtin' for days. (Not looking for pity, please don't do that. LOL)

So, I spread some of the creme on it about a half hour ago and I can sit comfortably now. I will report how it goes on movement tomorrow morning.
So far, this is great! It feels warm and no pain while sitting, which is highly unusual when this happens.

I'll have to figure out what my oil to cream base is. That was a half mini crock pot full of cream and I used two full 6 Ml syringes of the oil that I didn't like the looks of.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Cannafan, I use a mini crock pot for making pain oil as well. They do not seem to heat above 150 degrees so are perfect for the oils I mix.

Wow, 12ml of the oil.... that should be some good stuff!

As soon as I get the amount in that crockpot, we'll see if it's really that strong though. I have to look at the box for the crock buffet set. It's a set of three mini crocks in one unit, each with their own controls.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

I have just shy of 2 lbs. of creme made.

Now to figure out what the ratio of oil is..... I hate numbers... anybody want to try?

2 pounds of creme
12 ML oil

BTW, this creme was a batch already made previously using the crock pot and fresh trim (about an oz. of fresh trim) . I added more coconut oil, some vitamin E oil via opening capsules, and some beeswax to it. So it already had MJ in it before I added the oil this time.

I'll go with 1.32% (908/12 .... if 1Gm = 1ml)

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

:thanks:

Now to find out if that's a high or low number for the concentration of oil in the creme. A good thing to do with my cuppa in the morning.

:circle-of-love:

That doesn't account for the 1oz that you used previously as without knowing how much CCO it produced I don't think we can include it (at least I can't) Maybe say 1.32% +:lot-o-toke:

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Regarding the US Treasury Dept, these are the letters they send to the purchaser. The seller, a Canadian company in this situation, replied to an email that mentioned the letters by saying that their website explains this in the fine print. This was a water distiller, a Megahome counter top unit, perhaps modified to operate at a lower temp for alcohol, but I am not real clear about exactly what was done, perhaps nothing. I have read that these stills should be modified before using with alcohol, but could not find any details or confirmation that it was done to the one that I am using. The still works fine for recycling the Everclear, although you do need to be careful when the level of liquid gets low, to not boil it all the way down. I have done this a couple times and the unit shuts itself off and the extract gets very thick and dark, but it washed right off with a little Everclear. I am concerned that the high heat may result in excessive CBN, so always keep an eye on the still to ensure that it doesn't go dry, but has about 3 ounces of extract left when shutting down.

Getting letters like these are disturbing when you consider that there is no legal way to recycle ethanol at home, in the eyes of the law. Potentially. Even paying tax on liquor store Everclear does not give you legal authority to distill it again. I forget where I saw this, but it was legal-looking enough to merit a second look. I have not had any problems legally, probably because I am so careful to follow the Colorado cannabis regs. I am not the guy who will screw this beautiful thing up, growing and smoking my own has been a very fulfilling activity and I hope to continue on this path for many years. Probably still have to sneak into my grow area for a toke on Saturday nights as the wife is still not going to see or smell anything. (She is from ultra strict...) But about using the still in the US, please show me that I am just being paranoid.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

So, for a gallon of lotion I should try around 20 grams of cannabis oil? You know, it seems like a lot, but if it works... I honestly do not have a clue with how much makes sense. It sells for big bucks in the dispensaries, so a bottle of 20g high octane lotion would be a premium product, but what the heck, if you have the materials around, why not indulge. Sort of a Haagen Daz experience and still cheaper than the drug store. Any ideas about how to blend the ingredients?

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Thanks for that post and the pics Circuit. We all know that it's illegal to make alcohol, or use the distiller for that purpose without a distillers license, it has been noted on this thread before.

I've never heard of anyone modifying the distiller other than talk of the possibilities which I don't condone in any way, so maybe that was modified and was the flag the TTB or DOT needed to send the letter. Who knows for sure, but it is certainly something to keep in mind.
No, I don't think you're being paranoid at all after receiving a letter like that. But after this length of time you can probably and hopefully be relaxing a bit on it, eh? Had to be scary...

Edit: answering your question on blending. I haven't found the answer on blending into a lotion yet, but the cream stayed well mixed for me thus far. It's more of a lip balm consistency on the batch I'm using.
I did the hand blender after it had cooled enough to be thick like a thin frosting. Kind of a pain to get off the beater...bet a hair dryer on hot setting might be useful to melt it off next time. LOL

I'm going to pop around the net and the blog tomorrow and see if I can get any clues on what the spa's and dispensaries are doing as a ratio of cannabis to lotion/creme.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

The modification is something that I read about regarding the conversion of a water distiller to one intended to handle alcohol. My understanding is that the seller does this, at least the online sellers who are also moonshiner(or whatever the polite word is) suppliers. And yeah, it's not like I am in a state of fear over this crap, but anything that CAN be used by a government employee to create administrative work, WILL, as a job security/self preservation measure. So, Id like to NOT be on ANY of the lists, or at least as few as possible. I suggest having the still delivered to a different address, like Grandma's room at the senior center. Or, buy locally from a brewing/distilling supplier with cash. That way you can smoke sativas at home with impunity.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Do you have a liquid volume for the cream? Instead of weight?
If we can figure that out, I'll give us a more usable ratio.

I'll get that for ya tomorrow. I have to measure what was in the crock pot with a liquid. :thumb:

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

I never got a letter of threat from the BATF. Probably because I bought a distiller meant for water and I got it from the manufacturer. Before my purchase, I did my research because I had heard that buying one modified for alcohol might be trouble, so I chose the water model. So many people buy water distillers that the BATF would be swamped and have to send out millions of those letters.

I would go so far as to suggest that anyone in Michigan should distill their water. With all the Fracking going on, everyone in the U.S.A. should distill their water. The water distillers should be given out by the Federal and state government and National Guard, rather than giving out expensive bottled water.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

There are 2 different models are there not? One distills water & the other is what Cajun wants.

Canna,
I have 8 big jars infused with infused coconut oil.
Is Bill's way still the best for a pain cream? I have a MBM.
Let me know your thoughts.
