Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

There are 2 different models are there not? One distills water & the other is what Cajun wants.

Canna,
I have 8 big jars infused with infused coconut oil.
Is Bill's way still the best for a pain cream? I have a MBM.
Let me know your thoughts.

The one sold to distill water is the one we're talking about and using for making CCO. It can be used for both functions.

Hi Cajun,

To be honest, I've only experimented with this using BeemerBill's recipe as a base. I think this is kind of like edibles in the way that just about anything you cook can be infused with cannabis. The base pain creme can be added to or subtracted from according to personal preferences. The MB machine has recipes for creams and lotions on the net now.
This page has one for Whipped Shea butter, you could adapt that just like any other cream, one would think: Whipped Shea Butter Lotion - MagicalButter.com
I cannot get the scrolling down on that page to work though. Hopefully won't be a problem for others.

Pain creme/back update. I doused myself with the pain creme last night before going to bed. When this nerve does this, it usually locks up both sides of my back at the hip and sleeping on it is impossible.
I can't say that the creme took all of the discomfort away, but it sure made it more tolerable than past episodes with this.
This morning was the great thing. I got out of bed normally. Usually I would have to roll out of bed carefully the day after this happens and wait an hour or more to be able to walk around without pain. Was it the creme that loosened things up maybe? I don't know...but it's going to be on hand tonight for sure. :)

Cajun, the liquid measurement on the creme from the crock pot is about 4 Cups. :)

This is an example of a counter top still that is modified for alcohol and sold in Canada. EasyStillâ"ž¢ Distiller with Plastic Collection Container

I have been using one for a few years and am satisfied that it does what I need it to, recycle the Everclear. It recovers about 75%, so if a bottle of alcohol costs $40, and I use 2 bottles, the savings is $60 for that run. I am just making small amounts for myself, but for you people making oil for others this could be important. My preference for making extracted oil would be to use a rotovap-like lab apparatus, all glass, which would recover more and also handle the decarb very accurately.

I do not know what would happen if you tried to use isoprophyl alcohol in one of these stills, it might explode in a ball of fire or off-gas enough toxic fumes to poison anyone in the room. I cannot understand why people are using toxic solvents to extract and honestly, I just want to run the other direction when I see the justifications that get thrown around. Any oil made with toxic solvent may be poisonous. OK, not to belabor this point, but it does need to be made. Everclear works fine in this modified still, but I cannot comment on one that has not been modified. The details of the modification would be good to understand if anyone has anything. Probably a resistor or other (thermostat?) component in the heater coil circuit that needs to be changed, to reduce the operating temperature. Water boils at a higher temp than alcohol so I would be concerned about burning the extracted material on the bottom of a non-modified water still.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Just to be clear, this is what I am using currently, not a Rotovap. (I wish)

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

I live in Pennsylvania, a state that controls alcohol sales through their own stores. I can't purchase anything over 160 proof without a permit. I don't think I'll be doing that application :laughtwo: so my only option may be to use something like Bacardi 151. My understanding is that this simply means I'll have to process it longer to boil off the water content??? I also believe that the reclaimed solvent will be much higher proof than what I started with, but how would I determine that, and does it even matter?

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

I am in the process of making the first batch with the distiller. I used a small glass container so I could see what was going on, I am finishing it off in the oven as opposed to hot plates or coffee warmers. Does the color look right to those of you who have made it before?
By the way, you can see how much alcohol I recovered, I may have taken it out of the distiller a little too soon. I think the glass jar holds about 1 cup when full.

Do they sell the 190 in Ohio? Maybe you could make a trip over the border. :) :peace:

You know, I hadn't thought of that. A short bus ride may be my solution. I could do that every once in a while. Not having a vehicle of my own complicates it, but I could combine it with a bit of sightseeing. I might be able to get my big brother, who lives closer to the boarder, to make a run for me. I'll have to check it out.

I should also see if I can get some here and ship home before I leave.

Hey Beav,
Mine was even lighter color than that. It was the water content. LOL WildJim says not to worry about the color. What proof is your Everclear? 151? There will still be some water content to reduce out of that. I would rather take it out too soon than take it out too late. ;-)
Once that starts reducing it's going to get darker. If you have the 151 it's going to take longer. Watch that you don't reduce it down too far though. It does thicken a little as it cools.

Congrats on getting going on it!

Be very careful about crossing borders after purchasing illegal substances, or shipping it. The law watches for this all the time. They park near the liquor/smoke shops and wait, just across the lines. And the postal service can wreak havoc on you as well, trying to ship it yourself to an illegal state.

When I lived on the borderline of Michigan and Indiana, I worked at a place where I watched police stopping people coming across that state line after buying cigarettes on the cheap in volume. It was a busy day, every day for those guys.

Might be a good idea to make the purchase, go have lunch or dinner somewhere...kill some time before coming back. LOL

Thanks Cannafan, that is reassuring. I figured thats what it was but a second opinion makes me feel better. I am going to pull it out of the oven and put it on a hot plate to get it started. It has been 40 minutes at 220 and 15 at 250, same color. I'm gonna jump start it.

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

Just found this.

It is illegal to sell or purchase ANY FORM of Everclear in New York, New Hampshire, Nevada, California, Ohio, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota and North Carolina.

You may have to look the mail order route. :circle-of-love::peace:

It is illegal to purchase or sell the 190 proof here. We can purchase the 151 proof Everclear legally. I'm in Michigan. They sell it at convenient stores/gas stations here. :thumb:

Hi Canna. I just want to be clear on this. Can I use 150 proof Everclear and the only change would be the length of time it takes to perform the following step? Extra time necessary for removal of a little extra water? Using 150 Everclear will allow the CCO to be used to tack, dab, whatever?

re: Cannabis Oil Users Cafe & Lounge

By the way, I am using EverClear 151 Cannafan. I gave up on the oven and got a fondue pot out that sits on a hot plate (with Olive Oil in it.) I am reducing it down at around 215-218 degrees. It is getting darker as you said, it is going to get interesting real soon :)

I'd already figured out it wasn't a good idea to ship any by mail. They're pretty anal about that and I don't need any red flags.

I did a google search for Everclear and there are several places that have it for < $20/liter with free shipping. :peace:

I'm pretty sure PA has restrictions on you having alcohol shipped into the state. They control those sales and the monies generated pretty tightly. I can get 151 proof, so I'll just be a good example of how one adapts to an archaic state government's restrictions. It just takes longer to process, right?

Let me ask again, the reclaimed is higher proof, correct? Does it matter what proof it is, since we know it's going to be more potent than 151?
