Canadian Growers Group & Friends

Raining since yesterday afternoon here, still coming down & more on the way near Kingston.
How did the Albertans fair overnight?:nervous-guy:

Finally passed today, but wow... the rain sure did bring chilly temps to Niagara.
Only a high of 11 today, and you sure felt it.
All of my plants are starting to ripen, even the ones that should be packing on more weight right now, seem to just to be ripening. Maybe the cold weather/low amount of sun light? I would think so.

@The Celt Do you have these Asian beetles ?
Yes, the air was full of them for a couple days, in my plants and in the house. They seem to have died back some but still seeing them daily. Not sure if they are a type of ladybug that’s beneficial or not. If they are and I was going inside atm, I would catch a bunch

As long as the rot stays away, let them go, they should still bulk up. A week or so ago, i noticed rot on one of the big Cluster Bomb limbs and cut it off and save/dried the piece not affected. It was ripe enough to be a decent smoke but had no size at that time, now the buds are fat and starting to foxtail, which is not uncommon for Cluster Bomb.

There called asian beetle...the bastards are worst then black flys..and yes they bite..we only had them the past few years

Found this, they do eat scale bugs and aphids. But.....

During the 1960s to 1990s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture attempted to establish the Asian lady beetle to control agricultural pests, especially of pecans and apples. Large numbers of the beetles were released in several states including Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, California, Washington, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Maryland.

They also.
Eggs are yellow, oval, and typically are laid in clusters on the undersides of leaves

And
Asian lady beetles (also known as Japanese lady beetles, harlequin ladybirds or Halloween bugs) also eat aphids and other pests. But they eat other insects as well, including native ladybugs.

As for controlling some pest (spider mites, aphids, scale bugs) they will, but the bastards also eat beneficial insects.

Kill them all

Well it looks like im gonna take my god bud a little early. Its not too far off, but were calling for a week straight of rain here and I just dont want to risk losing it, its in really good shape right now mildew wise, no signs of budrot or anything. I think I will take her tomorrow, its unfortunate but its just the way it is. Atleast the others can stay in the shed. Hope everyone else is going to have some better weather than me!

How did the Albertans fair overnight?:nervous-guy:

This Albertan had -12.5C last night at 3am. Had to go out and put a big blanket over the back of my little greenhouse and crank the heat up higher to keep it over freezing in there but she's fine. Looks like she might need a bit of water tho.

I chopped the top off one of the lowest branches and a few tops off it's little side branche and it took me ver 5 hours to trim that all up and get it in the freezer. Filled a 1L can tamped down lightly then sealed with electrical tape. Got 166.8g wet x 0.25 so about 42g if dried and cured. couple cups of good sugar leaf as well but didn't weigh that. Gonna be at this 'til Xmas FFS!

This is just one of a dozen lower branches and judging by the fatness of the calyxes she could have used another 2 or 3 weeks good weather to flower out completely. All the trichs are milky but it's mostly tightly packed sugar leaf. The top colas are fatter and a lot larger than this one so are going to be a lot more work too. The calyxes look more filled out as well.

She's out there all alone now with the rest of the garden harvested and the wife having already planted 1775 garlic for next year already. She's bored to tears now with the gardening done and bingeing Grey's Anatomy on Netflix. lol

This is sunrise the other day. I went back to bed after this pic.

You can't put a little cover over her to keep the rain off? An umbrella taped to a bamboo stake ought to do it.

I could probably macgyver something up but, my big concern would still exist, the very damp air. I had a plant next to it that was heavily infected with mildew, so ive been battling popups here and there on this plant because of it. I have it in really good shape right now, and I dont want to watch all of my hardwork become undone. Damn weather. Id really love to leave it for atleast another week

I's dead flat up here until you get to the river then flat again. We have a gas plant close by so have talked to the head engineer a few times over the years. He says there's a mile of clay underneath us. Used to be part of the inland sea a long time ago. All the hills where they cut for roadways slough off and sometimes just slide away closing roads every so often. This was all boreal forest and muskeg until it got settled in the early 1900s. Got the mosquitoes and black flies to prove it too. :D

Middle of f'n nowhere in Bum F**k, Alberta.

No worries about forest fires, earthquakes, floods or tornadoes so it's not all bad. ;)

Too bad you couldn't build a lil roof offer it and light a controled fire by it for a little while to dry and heat things up around the area of the plant. like one of those cast iron chimynea's people have backyard bonfires in, Those get nice and toasty and work in the rain ..... Just so your plants can have a break from the dampness and cold for few hours a day cause you said you only have a week to go. lol its do able. :)

Better now than lose it all for sure. Wish mine had of got a couple more weeks of decent weather but the forecast says we're on the minus side for the next two weeks even during the day. I'm still going to open her up when the sun is shining on her even if it's a few below 0C. Gave her a 12L drink with some added K, Carbo and Epsom Salts. Heated to 80F to warm up her roots. She was looking thirsty.

Really dry here so PM is never a problem. Got a plant from a buddy that had some a few years back and sprayed with dilute Potassium Silicate. Actually used AN's Rhino Skin and the pm was gone after one spray. Good as a foliar spray for plants too and won't make the buds taste funny. Think I'll try it on mites and thrips. :)

I actually do have one, I could also use my propane ice fishing heater. Which now has me thinking about putting my ice hut overtop of it, since it has no floor it would be perfect actually. Only problem is my hut is a thermal type, its like a quilt kind of, would hold water. Would have to throw a tarp over top. But then id have to figure out a way to light it aswell.

Hmmm...Do you have an old 6 man tent your not using? cut the floor out of that, They usually have a mesh top cut that out and place clear plastic vapor barrier on the roof, The light will get in and the plant will be shielded inside from the rain and wind. Then place your heater in that. Basically a dIY pop up green house. lol

I just took these pics of her buds, Im pretty content with where the trichs are, but im not super thrilled about where im at with the retraction process of the hairs. Have a look, tell me what you think. Ive noticed its slowed down quite a bit in this department. Im not sure if its the lack of sunshine maybe, or maybe just the strain?
Il throw up some trich pics after my coffee. Rain comes shortly
