Bud Washing

Sorry -can't see the benefits of guy's -sorry old school I guess -Learn something new every day !!!!

It's not so much about seeing the benefit as tasting it.
I couldn't see the point of a vaporizer until I tasted the fresh herb taste.

If a person prefers joints to water pipes or vaporizers, they might not prefer washed to unwashed.

I prefer joints to anything, and if it hasn't been washed, I don't smoke it. (well, I should say I almost never smoke it....lol)
I don't spinkle dead skin or dust or gnats on my food either. I eat clean food and smoke clean herb.

And now a lab test shows what I've known all along: washing doesn't hurt potency.

you guys don't make hash out of the dirt in your washbuckets?

There are no trichomes there .. so what are you going to make hash of ? Dirt and dead gnats ?

The decision to try a wash is the only decision that needs to be made. Once you wash, you will NEVER not wash again. We all started as skeptics, but the results speak for themselves.

Cannot agree with skybound enough. Everyone of us had our doubts...until we did it haha

Damn right. I wash everything, always. I simply don't see an upside to smoking bugs, skin, fiberglass dust, fish juice, kelp juice, etc.

Washing pro's:
Takes dirt and grime off buds
improves flavor
has no effect on potency

Cons:

Takes time

I like to sample my plants before they are ready .. it's kind of a waste of lemon juice and baking soda to wash these sample buds. I often dont, unless there is visible dead gnats or stuff on them. Harvests are washed tho. It does not take that much time if set up in a smart way.

The only thing that I'm still not used to: It feels as if I'm smoking a Light joint ... but I forget that after the first toke :p

So only if grown outside?

Indoor too for sure.

You're still gonna get cat hair, dog hair, beard hair, body hair, lint, dust, mold spores, pollen, dirt, and all kinds of other stuff on your buds as they grow. They are so sticky and all of the aforementioned things are attracted to the plant like it's a magnet. It's worth the tiny bit of extra effort, without a doubt.

Hey guys...ok, I washed my buds and they were filthy, I mean totally gross so I'm glad I did, but I didnt notice a better tasting bud. I did a control group but got stoned and ended up mixing it all together, oops, lol but there was only a few buds so no biggie.

I will clean from now on tho, regardless of taste, I just like knowing the buds are clean.

I should say that I've been pretty sick lately so that might have something to do with me not noticing the buds tasting better.

:volcano-smiley:

I've had bad allergies for a couple weeks, and I can't taste, or smell, much of anything. :biglaugh:

In my experience, washing affects the flavor less so than the 'smoothness' of the smoke. I'm not saying there is no affect on flavor, it's just not the most noticeable difference IMHO. Maybe the way I would describe it is, it 'opens up' the flavor/smell palette, rather than changing the flavor/smell. That might just be semantics. :blalol:

Sounds like you had a good experience anyway. Grats! :goodjob:

Last year I was gifted a 1/4 oz of Bubblicious from another grower. To date, that was the most flavorful smoke I've ever had which is not saying much as I'm not yet a connoisseur, but it was crazy how much more pronouced those nugs were compared to anything else I've smoked. My own washed crop wasn't that tasty, but the natural flavors of that strain (WWxSk#1) were also very evident. To piggy back on Hiker's comment, perhaps it is the removal of all the other foreign materials that is allowing these nuances and flavors to be more pronounced? I mean, I've been smoking other people's dead skin and hair for about 2 decades and I gotta tell ya, it's not as tasty as NON WASHERs would have me believe.

Also, there are quite a few people subbed to this thread. Is there anyone here that has washed according to Doc's or Hiker's instructions and have decided that it's not worth doing again? PLEASE comment if you feel this way so we can get an accurate ratio of yays and nays on this matter, but I'm pretty sure it is unanimous that washing is beneficial and has been adopted.
