Bud Washing

Hi everyone. ..i have some bud washing questions. 1. H202 is what exactly and how much do I use? Do I use in in the hot water? 2.how much lemon juice and what water does that go in? 3. After washing, do I hang in dark closet or do I put a light on it, if so, what light do I use? Do I have to use RO water or can tap water be used, I've read both ways here and am getting confused. 4. Do I use 3 buckets or 4?

Sorry for the noob questions but I hope someone will help me out.:thanks::thanks::thanks:

Hey everyone I know it's off topic but I'm having a wake/Esmokeout for my dear girl budzilla. It's gonna be at 4:20pm PST on my garden layout thread please invite all. 2/8/15

1)H202 is the chemical formula for Hydrogen Peroxide. You dont need to use it unless you have a bud mold issue. 2)cup of lemon juice and cup of baking soda. 3) dry the way you normally dry, I use well water.4) I use 3, but also havent needed to use H2O2(hydrogen peroxide)

:)
thanks for the reply doc, you cleared up my questions, I very much appreciate it, grow on!:thanks:

If I was only growing like 4 plants per month this would be done on it all. Still interesting that it seemed to effect the terpene profile anyone else notice this.

Also I usually hang plants 10-14 days trim then jar.

Are you guys really jarring it at day 5/6? Any mold pop up? Did the cure take longer putting more moist product in?
I have tons of boveda 62 packs I barely use and have some more cannabis specific 58 ones I'll try.

Your experience sounds about right. Washing does speed up the initial, open air, drying period. I can't say it makes the cure stage quicker. I think that is about the same.

It sounds like you prefer to trim after the plant dries a bit. Our harvest styles are pretty different so my numbers may not apply. I don't hang branches to dry. They are only branches during the wash. I destem during trim, and dry all my buds on racks. Heck, I dry the popcorn stuff on the racks too. I just keep them separate.

My buds sit in the rack for 2-4 days depending on time of year (ie ambient temps and rh) and size of buds. I then jar them WITHOUT the Boveda packs. I'll burp them and keep checking them daily. I add the Boveda packs about another 2-4 days after going in the jar. After that, I don't have to touch them until they go to a patient.

EDIT: Actually that's inaccurate. I do still 'tumble' the jars frequently, although I just call it "shaking the jars". I remove the Boveda, then shake, then put the boveda back, and return the jar to the box.

Those giant buds in those pics will take longer. Add a day, or two, to all the times. :blalol:

Re the terpines... I know what you're trying to describe. It does seem to alter it a little. I want to use the word 'enhance', but that is a little subjective. To me, the buds aroma is improved by washing. I'm not sure how or why. My suspicion is it's something to do with the lemon, but I'm not sure.

You've read both ways on most of those topics because there is some debate one some of these details. There isn't a right or wrong way as it depends on your situation. Like Ziggy said, the H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide), is only needed if your buds have something on them like a mold, so whether or not you use it depends on your situation.

Some use 3 buckets, some use 4. I'm in the 3 bucket camp. Some folks use the sink!

Another noob question, how long do you keep buds in the water? I've seen several different times mentioned and getting confused again, lol.

I swish mine around for ~10-15 seconds in each stage.

Ok thanks for the info hiker. Yeah still haven't used the boveda packs yet. I'm not a big fan that's why I still have so many lol. I bought cure vaults a few years back then extra packs and I do not like the cure vaults at all. And then a patient gave me a couple dozen of the 58's too.

Those are my small buds. My lemon kush I'm not washing I just hung it. It's so massive I'm not gonna lie I was scared to wash lol.

Plus no more room in the washed product drying area guess I may need to expand that

what didn't you like about the boveda or vaults?

After reading Boveda's intent for the 62 and 58 models, I kind of want to try the 58's too. I thought 62 feels a little 'wet'.

I'm not into bashing a product but from what I've personally seen I believe the vaults themselves mess with the terpenes profile. I could be wrong I'm no toucan Sam but it's weaker.
62 still a Lil damp for my dispensaries liking
58 honestly haven't really tried to its full extent.

ahhh..

Ya I'm picky about containers. Other than a couple little silicon type containers, I keep everything in jars. I've had jars that affected bud. The problem was usually the lids. The material used in the seal will give off it's own smell, or if the lid was from a food product (think Classico) it can give off the smell of the contents. I've had OK results by soaking the lids in bleach, but I keep everything in gallon jars now. :blalol: Those all have new lids.

Actually they are more than a plain desiccant, which only removes moisture from an environment. Boveda Humidipaks can also, to a limited degree, increase moisture in an environment that is at an RH that is lower then the RH factor of the Boveda Humidipaks, 58, 62, 70, etc. They are especially good at adding moisture to overly dried cannabis and bringing it back to a more desirable RH for storage and curing.

Damn you! Damn you all! #+&; myself I should of done this so long ago. I just did my smoke test and it's way better. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...?......... Why didn't I do this earlier....

Damn I now need to expand my drying areas so I no longer hang whole plants. ;&:$ my life!

Doc bud. And hiker I'd like to split all my rep points between you two Damn.
