Buckshot's Perpetual Grow, LED, Pro-Mix, Evolving Feeding Routine

Do you mind directing me to PJ's mix? Like I said before, I'm totally shooting in the dark right now.

Which type of Pro Mix have you used in combination with fox farm, and what else did you add to the mix?

Thanks guys!

If you follow the link in my signature to my journal, go to page 2 and you will see the soil mix I am using. Only change to what you see there is that instead of Compost, I am using 5X the compost amount in FF Ocean Forest soil instead at PJs suggestion (which he does as well as a side note). If you go to page 3 or 4 you can see PJ respond and add some of his own notes and of course his signature with all his links. Oh, and we have ProMix MX up here.

Thats what I love about MJ though. Buckshot has awesome results in his setup with bottled nutes, then there is the soil mix crowd, hydro, hempy's etc. More stuff to try out than you can shake a thai stick at.

PJ customizes his soil mix to what you have available Human so just PM him and he'll work with you.

Thank you Bob, it is appreciated!

Thanks for letting me know, I think I just need to up my posts before I can pm.

Hey guys, I don't mean to cramp the style of the thread here, so please forgive me if I do. I just feel that you guys are knowledgeable and friendly enough to help me understand what I don't. I'm a noob at best

I was hoping y'all could help me better understand transplanting. I'm pretty clueless as I've only ever used the same soil throughout the entire cycle. I did see the different mixes that Bob outlined for different stages of the life cycle, but I'm still unsure of when to look for what.. pretty much. (Also, who is PJ in that thread? I couldn't figure it out )

I'd love it if one of you could explain transplanting for me, or direct me to a wonderful link.

Edit: So Bob, just to be clear.. You've replaced each ingredient marked as compost with Fox Farms Ocean Forest? Do you still add the additional Bat Guano in the bloom mix?

Baby soil:
2 gallon ProMix HP
2 qts perlite
1 cup compost
1/4 cup yum-yum (organic nutes)
3 Tbsp beneficial mycorrhiza (Growology step 1 is what I use)
1.5 cups water

Veg soil:
6 gallons ProMix
1 gallon perlite
3 qts worm castings
6 cups compost
3.5 cups yum-yum
1 cup azomite
2 Tbsp beneficial mycorrhiza
1 qt water

bloom soil:
15 gallons ProMix
3 gallons perlite
1 gallons worm castings
3 qts compost
2 qts Yum-Yum
3 cups azomite
1.5 cups Bat Guano
2 cups rock phosphate
2.5 qts water

I am totally OK with you asking questions here... you are getting direct answers from some of the best growers ... and me.

Small containers are easy to handle, take up less space and are easier to control water, that is why I transplant. I start in rooting plugs then plant the plug into small pots. In a week or two the seedling should be filling that pot with roots. I go from the small pots to 5 or more gallon pots that is where they finish or are planted in the ground.

Same here exactly. I just use solo cups, 3 G felt pots, to 8 G felt pots (at least currently as I have done many variations on that theme). Here is the soil mix fixed as I have done for my plants on my current grow. Yes on the guano as the FFOF only changes that line item of compost. Here is PJ's profile as well. @PeeJay

Baby soil:
2 gallon ProMix HP
2 qts perlite
5 cup FFOF
1/4 cup yum-yum (organic nutes)
3 Tbsp beneficial mycorrhiza (Growology step 1 is what I use)
1.5 cups water

Veg soil:
6 gallons ProMix
1 gallon perlite
3 qts worm castings
7.5 qts FFOF
3.5 cups yum-yum
1 cup azomite
2 Tbsp beneficial mycorrhiza
1 qt water

bloom soil:
15 gallons ProMix
3 gallons perlite
1 gallons worm castings
15 qts FFOF
2 qts Yum-Yum
3 cups azomite
1.5 cups Bat Guano
2 cups rock phosphate
2.5 qts water

(for a personal outdoor garden in 5 gal. containers).

I'm sorry, I'm barely beginning to grasp mixes and what's proper..

How do you think a mix of these ingredients would turn out?

40% General Organics Ancient Forest Humus Soil Amendment
20% Premier Horticulture 2.8CF Pro Mix BX Loose with Biofungicide
20% Coconut Coir
10% Perlite
5% Charcoal
5% Hydroton
(?)% Fish Meal

I'm also considering adding some Plant Revolution Plant Success and Nature's Solution Organic Mycorrhizae

I have come to these ingredients and percentages through pure guesswork, so don't hold me too accountable. :cheesygrinsmiley:
I'd probably just guess the actual amounts I use, unless someone recommends using more precise measurements when it comes time to mix.

What do you think of adding Growstone Gnat Nix! on top, worthwhile?

So, wow.. this guy's videos cleared up some of my uncertainty. His experiment makes me interested in attempting a side-by-side of my own. I have to get a better idea of what I'd use first, though.. I feel stuck between PJ's mix and this now, just on a theoretical level. I'd love to get his take on it. (I'm still 97% locked-in to PJ's, I'm just thinking that I'd already have most of the ingredients for the coco version just to see what would happen) I'm learning.

Edit: sorry about the 'double post', it's 3AM

Hey Buck, I'm wondering if you still use Growstone gnat nix.

Also, Bob, how many plants you're able to cycle with those proportions?

Thanks guys :Namaste:

Yes, yes I do

Do you only use it during flowering? Or all stages? I'm guessing there's no topsoil being added after all of that broken glass is there.
Thanks

All stages... every single pot

edit -- The way I grow there is no need for topsoil.

Thanks PC :cheesygrinsmiley:

Yes it is nice not to be having nutrient problems...damn just jinxed that, shit. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Really, cheap and easy is where I am at with an emphasis on easy... oh that read back different than I meant

Thanks for the PM doc, I went to reply but I can't yet..

I'm planning on having 6 girls, outside. I was going to ask how far a 3.8CF of Pro-Mix/1.5 CF of FFOF typically lasts with the mix and proportions you use.

Also PJ stated that he uses separate Guano for his veg/blooming mix, I was wondering if you do the same
The base for both the veg and flower soils is the same.

The only other thing the veg soil gets is 1 cup of 10-1-1 Mexican bat guano.

The flower soil has no Mexican guano. It gets 1 cup of 0.5-13-0.2 Indonesian bat guano, and 1 cup of soft rock phosphate.

Apart from that, I need some insight on this :sorry:

I sent this to Pro-Mix:
Hi there! I have recently been introduced to Pro-Mix Mycorrhizae mixes, and have been quite interested in them. I saw someone mention something that I hadn't considered, and would love to get a professional opinion on it. That would be the possibility of concentrated nutrients potentially harming and killing much of the beneficial organisms within the mix.. This worries me, and the uncertainty is killing me. Do you think products such as these might harm those beneficial organisms? If possible, I would love to get some feedback on each product. That's if you think one would be less 'threatening' than another.

Amazon: Fox Farm Big Bloom Liquid Concentrate Fertilizer, 1-Pint

This was their response:
Hello,
Thanks for contacting us. The only fertilizer restriction for mycorrhizae is to apply less than 40 ppm of elemental phosphorous in solution during the five weeks of growth after inoculation.

You need to use PRO-MIX Mycorrhizae substrates as is, you do not need to mix it with other substrates or aggregates.

Thoughts?? :thanks:

Edit: After going back and actually looking at the mix.. I'm less worried about it than I was, considering the ingredients that are being added and their proportions. I don't think their presence would interfere with the mycorrhizae's ability to proliferate in those amounts .The response I got in that email just worried a bit..
*waits for response*
