BrixNewb's First Grow & Beyond

You see, what happened is I am lazy. Tead knows laziness, well I am also a lazy brethren! But I am looking to get some pictures and updates rolled out tonight. Thanks for the kick Dr. Z!

Tead man, I was just thinking about you today actually. It slips my mind what exactly I was thinking about, but I think it was the fact that I hadn't heard anything with you in a while and that I needed to stop by the journal and see how you were. Now on those BD clones they are going to take a little longer, the clones you take are going to be third or fourth generation. I think third. They take a bit longer, but no worries, they are going to clone just fine for you.

All is well on BN's side though, just extreme laziness mixed with a bit of things to do here and there. Look for some picture updates and so forth here shortly.
 
Ok, so I am back for the update. First things first is that you never realize how good a camera is until you use a crappier one. So excuse the pictures, I am working with what's on hand, so they pretty much suck. But they give you an idea.

First off we will take a trip over to the veg tent, got a few things going on in there, some looking alright, some.....not so much! The veg tent did get a nice addition recently, not sure if I told you guys, but in the veg tent I now have a 4 COB Vero 29 unit pushing 400 watts from Timber Grow Lights! Probably a bit big for my 2x4 tent, but I plan on switching things up a little bit in the coming months. On to the plants, first up we have two Dark Carnival girls that Canna Montana and Nismo so graciously gifted me while we were down in Negril. These are dice rolls, could get photos, could get autos, I am excited either way!

Next up we have some UltraDog seeds that Tead gifted me quite a while back when I first visited his area. He always talks so highly of it that I was really excited to get these in soil, just lacked the space due to previous obligations.

Those are all doing alright in veg, now we get to the not so good. Blue Dream #6. I always get great feedback from my Blue Dream, so I cloned the hell out of it last run. This is the last of the clones, the rest have all been flowered except for this one. She looks like absolute hell. I forget all about De-Stress but remembered today and gave her a good spray. I may cull this one but will probably attempt to take a few clones from her before I do. She seems to be getting super lanky so I may just cull this one and call it a day.

So that closes out the veg tent, let's mosey on over to the bloom tent. The bloom tent also got a nice upgrade, inside I now have a 12 COB CXB 3590 unit running 600 watts, also from Timber Grow Lights. On to the plants. Now this tent is PACKED! I have 6 girls in there and that's about the max for me. Luckily I am running perpetual so I only really have two large girls in there, Blue Dream #1 and #2. These girls did not get lollipopped due to the Jamaica trip, so they are more au naturale. I am planning on harvesting one this weekend and the other the next:

Next up we have Bubba Kush. This will be my first time growing this out and I am happy with what I see so far. Good resin production, I was able to lollipop, no topping, so it looks like I will have a long spear and some nice lower buds.

And lastly we have Northern Lights. This one I tried something a bit different than normal at the suggestion of TheRedDragon. He has had a lot of luck with topping his plants quite a bit so I decided I wanted to take a swing at it. On this one I topped most nodes twice. Once the pistils start coming in I am going to trim it up a bit and let it eat.

One usually doesn't replicate genetics that have been less than optimal.


The UDs look good. I was just catching up on Cannarus's thread. He's got some UDs going that are further along than yours, but are also in HB if I recall correctly.

Hey Tead man! You are right, I guess I just have a hard time letting go even though I got my money's worth out of that Blue Dream seed. I may try to flower this out depending on how big the other vegging plants are when I need something for bloom. The UDs have some TIGHT node spacing so far, pretty exciting. And the way you talk about that strain, must be something good.

Hey Neiko man, good to see you! The harvest coming up will probably net me about 6-7 ounces between the two plants. Not a bad harvest and the Blue Dream smoke is a nice one. I have grown it quite a bit, I think I am going to give it a rest for a while.

Blue Dream is one that everyone seems to enjoy. Recently I grew out a Dusted Bud Genetics tester called Whip Cream. It's (707 Headband x Phishead Kush) x (Milk n Cookies) and the lady went crazy for it. It was more sativa and she says it gives her energy with clear thought processes, had her passing on the Blue Dream.

I have taken most of the lower branches off my two older Blue Dream plants, they were done. The main cola is foxtailing like crazy on both plants, so I am letting it go until I feel like chopping them.
 
Ok guys, I wanted to show off something that I have never seen before. These seeds I got from the ganja field tour that we went on by ourselves. This is the very dark strain, almost looked black when dried. I think it was one of their Trainwreck crosses. So from the top, everything looks pretty normal:

Got some purple really coming on under there! I am interested to see how these play out, because my tents usually don't get below 73 degrees during lights off, so only about a 7 degree temp swing there.

Beyond that I need to get some pictures, but in veg I have 2 Devils Carnival in one gallon pots, 2 Ultradogs in one gallon pots, and these two Jamaican seeds in tiny pots. In bloom I have two more Blue Dream plants to come, a Bubba Kush that didn't do as well as I hoped, and a Northern Lights that is my first foray into topping quite a bit. With the kit I have always produced great bud and a decent yield (~3.5 ounces per plant) but I always felt like I was messing up somewhere. In the past Doc had told me I am feeding too light and I seem to have completely let that slip my mind almost right away. So I am back on track, trying to pay better attention to the girls and feeding heavier. Hopefully I can get it down like you guys. If not, I am still harvesting good bud, so I can't complain.
 
Been a while since I have been here with an update. I was not absent, I have been around the forum following along with everyone's grows and lives, just haven't posted. Glad to see most are doing well and for those who aren't 100% I am sending love your way. While I was busy not posting I had a moment of clarity and realized that I have really been screwing the pooch when it comes to feeding the girls. My waterings weren't too far from the mark, but my drenches were anywhere from 25-66% of what they should have been. That can really explain a lot, so I have recently taken the steps to correct that. Despite my mistakes the grows have always produced some great bud for me, so I really can't complain. My Bubba Kush is a testament to that.

While the crew was in Jamaica we were all able to stumble across some seeds and some of those seeds even made it back to our grows. I was able to tour a ganja field and was given a plant that was very dark, almost black. I brought it back and dried it out and found quite a few seeds in it, so I brought them back and planted a few. These plants have purple under the leaves, the stems are all purple and I think they are just looking for a reason to show the colors. I am excited to see how these turn out.

Forum member Tead was gracious enough to give me some Ultra Dog seeds a while back and I have had them in hibernation for a while since I was busy growing out other strains. I finally got an opening in the garden and was excited to plunk down two seeds and here we are. Have one definite girl and the other is likely a male, but I am letting it go a while longer.

The Devil's Carnival girls are doing alright. They got water just after these pics were taken. No pistils from either of these girls that I have seen and they are lanky girls from what I am used to.

Poor Bubba Kush, I tell you what. Bubba was a heavy eater and I just didn't even have a clue. Combine that with me feeding everything at about 1/4 strength and she just looks like hell. Even still she put the buds on and I am hopeful.

Northern Lights is a plant that I did some topping experimentation on at the urging of TheRedDragon. She just recently got her first Cat Drench and as you can see she is pretty tight on the node spacing with the buds. A slight defoliation may be in order shortly, but the COBs should get her a good bit of light even without the defoliation.

Blue Dream #3 and #5 are both clones from the same mother. Previously my Blue Dreams were flipped too late and resulted in very tall plants. These two are once I finally learned when to flip to get smaller plants. I am hoping the height difference does not result in much of a yield difference.

Yeah, i can see that. My patients are always asking me what's coming next. I could lie to them and make up some stupid ass name and they would never know the difference. But I like the variety too so they get their new named weed.
 
Yeah, I liked Blue Dream so much I kept cloning and cloning so I always had two Blue Dreams in flower at a time. In the future I will only flower out one clone at a time. I actually just dropped a Pakistani Chitral Kush and an LSD seed. Haven't grown either of them out before, so more variety on the way.

I'm gonna guess that BD4 shared that same gene pool?
Had to shove her outside yesterday.... mostly for space purposes tho she was supporting a minor gnat population.

Do you think the leaves on the UD show a CalMag shortage?
The smoke will be appreciated. Not huge buds, but quite decent and extremely effective. I got just shy of 2oz out of one of my 2L pots the other day... can't wait to see a HB grow in big pots with it.

All of my recent Blue Dreams came from the same mother, I just cloned the clones to keep it going. I saw you put her outside, dropped by the thread and spoke on it a tad.

I think the UD leaves are showing me that they are hungry, but maybe other things as well. I recently realized that I was feeding my plants way too light, so I attribute it to that. Now that I have that under control I am waiting to see how the plants come out.

The kit has consistently gotten me about 3.5 ounces out of my plants in 7-10 gallon pots, although I was flipping them a bit later than I liked and they would get quite tall. Before I flower the UD I am going to clone it and keep it going for a while since you speak so highly of it. Once I get some in jars I will have to get your opinion on it.
