Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Nice lineup. To me anything with sensie star is worth looking into. Damn all the strains around now adays. Gets confusing. But I'm looking foreward to seeing ya up and growing again. I just started a new indoor myself, close to the same age. Keepem Green

hey NCW....love SS & know you like it. Always grew it straight but that Luther Dogman cross was no brainer. The Dead Banana has Deathstar (SS x SD). Long wait but Deathstar crosses in seed showing up. You know me & seeds. Just read a thread where strain loving grower does 24 strains a run. Half gal. pots to end. Another poster says he does same since he has way over 200 strains to pick from. You gotta love these guys! :passitleft:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Can you imagine the problems of that many, all the height issues?????????????? Unless they are outdoors maybe? Keepem Green

He had a dedicated room/space for his strain explorations....looked to be at least 8x8 or 10x10. No training, 1/2 gal. pots. growing straight up, looked like a couple of ft. tall, pretty smaller buds for sampling. At 1st before seeing what he was doing, thought buds were beautiful but on small side. Then I saw his primary rooms that were filled w/ gorgeous fat buds. Some of these new grower/breeders have serious skills. :passitleft:

The internet is responsible for alot of these growers or the young guards. But I'm sure not taking anything away from the skills for sure. Back before the wheel, all you could do was listen to acouple 'Old Hippies' tell about what they were doing up around Lake County or Humbolt, And they were kind of tight-lipped seeing prison was almost always involved. Least the people that schooled me was from that area. But with the net people can share genetics. That was a big thing when 90% of the States were getting # 2 commercial Mexican. Every once in awhile some good Gold or Red, or Cali Purple Hair wood show up, and afew prized seeds............ Was afew exotics around for a price. I miss REAL Thai Sticks, double dipped in,,,, well one of them things you had to be there or 420 wood edit me. But now, click and your off and pheno searching. And the excess to information, damn near unlimited. I use to have to read books. And now you can get alot better equipment like lights and ballasts. People use to use these 'high top something' which were really overhead street lights, or a ton of blinking T-12 flourecents. Even the T-12 lights have come along ways. Besides, there is value of the product. Isn't just afew 'Long Hair's' which I'm one of, squatting on some Park Properties growing afew pitiful looking plants. People are putting 10's of thousands in a single greenhouse. And doing it as a business. And want to sell the best for repeat customers. Very competitive market,, veryyy. And it flows down to the last newbie to plant a seed. He has the knowledge of every grow, failed, or perfect, to learn from. Even a social network to ask any questions, imagine that?????????????? Like a cheat sheet,,, jk But your 100% right, people are putting out some serious shit. Growers are doing the 'Old Mississippi Government Pot Farm' justice. And it shows with the breakdown of Thc/cbd levels and different variants and hybrids developed. I can't see levels getting much high in the flower form. Getting close to hash level... That was a fun read. :cheesygrinsmiley:

"Before the wheel" - yeah, heheh. In early 1980 I put a seed in some commercial garden soil, bought a couple shop lights and set up a room in my basement. That turned into 5 gallon buckets and a 1000W metal halide, and then into a barnfull, with 8 lamps with about 80 skinny Colombians under 'em, in horsesht and topsoil with Rapdgrow and MiraclGro. Hps was new at that time and more expensive, and needed their own ballasts, so we just stuck with the metal halides. Yeah. Well, anyway, we managed to get 2-4 zees from each plant, and we cloned everything so we ended up with some fine phenos, but sheesh, was that primitive! We were all by ourselves in this part of the country - literally no one to talk to about growing. We had three books to read, can't remember the names now ...Marijuana Grower's Bible? ... ring a bell?

We coulda stunk up the whole county if we knew then what we know now!

Thanks for the reminiscing!

Love the impact Internet has had on weed. Knowledge level nowadays is insane. Like an amusement park for me & my strain/seed addiction. So far from the heavy paranoia days. The whole pot stigma has been hard to completely shake for me. The helicopters flying around used to really freak us out. F**king felony! But my early days in Santa Cruz Mtns. were outrageous & big part of my pot dominated life. We had this mountain bar called the Chateau that was like a legal pot haven bar. Off of Old Santa Cruz Hwy. So open in late 60's early 70's able to forget drugs weren't legal while there. Doobie Bros., Hot Tuna guys played often. Kept secret for mountain folks. Even start of CA medical didn't really shake off the paranoia & suspicion. So guess it will never completely Yeah, I sure do remember those special dipped Thai sticks. Got mine from good friend who was merchant marine local mountain guy who brought them back. He said they were called "Gung Chow". Whatever, dynamite shit & loads of fun. Only times I had them. Hey man "babble" all you want, pot babbling by all always welcome here. :thumb:

:welcome: Welcome Mondstern. Good folks who are damn good growers & potheads here. Glad you're joining us. Feel free to chime in or ask anything you wish. :thanks: :Namaste:

Brightlight could you please give me a good H20/carb recipe? And is this recipe good for the ones I feel are a month away. Much appreciated!

Hey 4D. Posted answer to your question on your journal, but I use molasses at tbs/gal throughout the grow. Stop w/ maybe 2-3 wks. before end. Then straight water. Sometimes if plant looks like she'll take more time, I'll use something like Botanicare Sweet after I cut off the molasses. Such products have less Mg than molasses, which I don't want close to end. Hope that helps brother.:high-five:

HMMMMMMM....... I grew acouple plants with a friend alittle piece down the road from the Mystery Spot on bear with me,,, Branson Forte Rd???? Don't laff I can't spell for shit, with this guy I use to go gold mining with. He lived up there. Shit that was 85' I think. I never got to help harvest that trip. I ended up breaking my fool neck on the way to work out toward Brentwood. Isn't Lester from out your ways also? Keepem Green

Mystery Spot is cool place. Something mysterious causing gravity & physics to appear to go haywire. No real explanation. That would be Branciforte Dr. Both east of Hwy. 17 & Scott's Valley in hills just above close by Santa Cruz. Lots of the old mountain folks displaced by rich Silicon Valley folks who want to live in mountains & redwoods. Bought my 1st house/cabin in Redwood Estates for $12K in 1970. Couldn't buy an out house out here for that price these days. Not many wanted to live up there back then. Lester is down San Diego way I believe. You wouldn't believe how Brentwood has grown....lots of big guerrilla grows out that way in Delta are still but that has become heavy meth country nowadays. Ugh. :passitleft:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

I grew afew times in the Sac delta area. Them islands are,, well was perfect. Use to take a little gas powered water pump, and a friend, and go fishing. One wood jump off with the pump, and the other wood go fishing with one of the walkie talkies..... "Someone coming,' shut the pump off and lay in the sawgrass till they passed. Use to get 6-8 up to 15 big plants on each of islands we worked. They problay still have all the hose under ground on afew of them. Oakland Co-Op Buyers bought everything we grew. Got real hard to do it, between the tweakers living in the houseboats, and firing up meth cooks haveing the cops out every weekend, and C.A.M.P.
C.A.M.P. busted me......
Citizens Against Marijuana Planters.............. Little assholes used then little ultralight copters and planes flying up and down the sloughs and rivers taking pic's, and then overlaying the negatives from the fall ones over spring ones, looking for changes in the islands that show grows going on. Man, they fly tree top height and it was hella hard to camouflage good enough. They even got camera equipment from the DEA. and Sheriff's Department. Everytime we ever cut a branch to let the sun in, we painted the fresh cut stump end brown. Because they look white or very light tan in a negative, and that stands out more than any other color period. White is about the most unnatural color in the woods. We use to launch our boat close to Cliffton Forebay off Grant Line Road right before Tracy.
I grew the most crops ever in my life in that area and ontop of Altamont Pass in a barn. Had many a cold one at Mountain House Bar. Kind of my stomping grounds, al over the Bay Area and Sacramento. Like 17 years worth of growing there,,, minus the 5 years in collage, courtesy of Cali Department of Corrections. I got caught with 187 plants once with 350 lb's dried and packaged. That was the first year they had medical in Cali, I even had the 35th card issiued. Only got 3 years for all that, with a prison prior I had for a DUI.
Yea I can only imagine what happened with real estate values around there, close to South Bay and still woodise,,, oh yes that's what that street was called. KC and Laura Wolfson was my road dawgs name. Laura was born and raised there and lived like 1-1 1/2 miles up on the left. If my old feeble mind still processes any memory...... Small world..... I gorilla grew in the delta one year. Honda pump, in the middle of black berry bushes. Tunnel in and clear an area. It was fucking savage. Water every two weeks and flood the shit out of them. Osmocote for nutes. They turned out beautiful!!!! What a great climate it is!!! Great dirt!!!
So nice to grow my meds in my yard!!!!! Nice to hear all these familiar places! Nice to be part of the 420 Mag community.
I either got to go buy dirt and up pot this morning or water them like now, so good day to all!!

Cookies Exploration
Decided to expand into some hopefully legit cookie lines.....based on my Sherbet pipeline & my son bringing over some excellent Do Si Do. Also the recent availability of seemingly worthy cookie & cookie cross strains. My only cookie grows are very limited....the Cali Connection GSC & the Connoisseur GSC x SSSDH...both outdoors. As much as I like CC its GSC was boring to me even though I thought I grew a damn good plant. The CGS GSC SSSDH cross was a sticky mess & pretty good but my opinion was that the 2 strains weren't really complimentary as a blend. Quick look back at the CC GSC.

I started w/ Burning Bush Nurseries Key Lime Pie, Girl Scout Cookies, & Sunset Sherbet seeds. BB is east bay outfit that has been supplying cookie family clones to dispensaries for awhile. Decent reputation. But proceed w/ caution if you have an eye on these seeds. Widespread germination problems....extremely low to zero germination. I couldn't get any of 6 to germ. Saw seed bank reviews saying same. Luckily the 2 seed banks gave me full credit. Ok to mention that Seedsman was one of 2 since they are 420 sponsor. I did see a BB KLP grow that was so gorgeous I'll try some more of the remaining seeds, but everyone who has the seeds seems to have had the same problem. Posting this info since don't want anyone to waste their $$.

Do Si Do has seriously caught my attention. Stoney as hell like most good cookies but w/ a great uplifting high as well. DSD is from Tha Docta at Archive Seeds. It's OGKB x Archive's flagship Face Off OG. The Archive OGKB is legit from Norcal's IC Collective. Valid info that the IC cut also went to Gage Green (MendoBreath) & Cult Classic (Cement Shoes & Tony Clifton). DSD ran as high as $1000/pack if you could find any. I was lucky to land a couple of DSD crosses from In House Genetics. IHG must have connections because they have all the powerhouse/in vogue cuts. They pump out a ridiculous no. of strains so can't be tested but getting positive grower support plus killer dank on Instagram.

IHG Gelato 41 x Do Si Do & Double Purple Doja x Do Si Do
Bigger girl is the Gelato DSD & the little one in the 1 gal. is DPD x DSD. The Gelato x DPD is youngest in tent & has grown amazingly almost catching up w/ plants 2 wks. older. The DPD is another story. One month from germ. she was still at single leaf set...not unhealthy but just wouldn't grow. Had heard that OGKB extremely slow in veg. Due to valued genetics threw her into 1 gal. pot & she's now doing well. Pics at ~3 wks. veg.
IMG_286217.jpg

I also tried to germ an IHG OGKB V2.1 (OGKB x Do Si Do bx OGKB) but no germ. I did buy a full pack of IHG Gorilla Dosha (GG4 x DSD) that will in the next run. Just got new High Times & Gelato, GG4, Do Si Do all made top 10 for 2016.

Seeds
Got lucky when new seed bank I like a lot reorganized & had unheard of sale. Up to 60% off w/ 5 or more packs. That's below cost! How about $175 for 6 packs! Here's a pic of new batch. Yellow label are from Illuminati as can't see breeder name. That little vial in center is freebie Dafghan Surprise from Crunch Status Confirmed. What a great breeder name! Dafhan is CO Durban x Laskar Afghani. Couple of the old time Colorado breeders & seem highly respected. Did order a Cannarado Rub A Dubble (LA Pure Kush x Sour Dubble) that got oversold so lost out on that one. So lots of new strains & fun coming up.

One day all these breeders are going to run outta names................. Anyone ever grew out a seed from porno seed? Talk about odd names.... I always seem to go to the pick and mix seed. Just got a shit pile of new ones myself. Keepem Green

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

What do you guys think of this..... If you grow seeds the same place /climate they were bred is best??? I just think thats a reason my yard grows so good is because its the same place they were bred. Maybe?
If seeds were bred inside maybe not great for outdoors?? and visa versa?? Just curious.
Black Heart clones.com here have great clones but not the greatest name.
Ive thought if I could have a MMJ co. I would call it.... Grace Growers and have flowers called..... Good Night Gracie, Grace Slick, Amazing Grace....
Those are my names!!! Ive also thought of........ Klarksburg Kush for the wonderful Calif. delta!!
Its dawn now, suns up, yard grows so beautiful, Im so happy!
Happy Sunday to all!!

Think you mean Dark Heart Clones 4D...? One of the better clone farms in these parts. If you're going w/ clones also look for Midnight Farms, House of David, Medicinal Organics, & Queen Bee. QB was my favorite when I used to grow from bought clones. Many have nice websites.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

I guess it's better to stick to seeds if you don't want mites to run your grow over.
