Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Hey there BL - great looking ladies you have there.

I used to use tap water @~400ppm.... there's no way to tell whats in there day to day. You can get a water report from the local water authority but it's not accurate for day to day... It was killing my plants thats how I started down the RO water world. Never looked back.

Stay organic... you know the taste and meds are on top of the top shelf stuff the chem growers grow. I have grower friends in Cali... try to smoke the chem green ... I must be a weed snob or something, I just can't do it anymore.

I'm at the point, "I'll give you a go bag if we can smoke my buds". hahaha..

Interesting story about the Headband .. I was under the impression it was from bag seed.... one of those gifts from the Gods deal.

Anyways KIG brother - looking healthy and fantastic. Good to see folks actually getting into the genetics and where it all comes from.. at some point you should or maybe already have, start to see some commonalities for the really good genetics. I'm just starting to get my eyes opened up for me... stumbling around like a blind squirrel, we can find a few good beans.... and clone! FTW

Welcome bobrown. Looking forward to working w/ RO. Knew it was alkaline but good point on the daily fluctuation. It was always guesswork on how much to use/add w/o knowing H2O details. A specific starting point is making me giddy.

You ain't no blind squirrel if you grow the Kimbo Kush. Exotic Genetix gets a lot of attention & positive chatter. Their strains popping up in other breeder lines too. After starting indoors I started going mainly fems where I didn't care whether reg or fem outside. Actually would prefer regs. Tempted by some "got to haves" that are reg only. :thanks: :Namaste:

High brother bright. Hugs from over yonder.
I highly recommend r.o. for indor crops. I have a well and it will fooke up the coffee maker in just a couple months ,and sure enough make the plants look a little blah.
Enjoyed seeing your ladies they are as lovely as ever.
Happy daze my brother.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Thank you Rad for taking time to give me all the useful info. Read on RO most of rainy weekend (we got ~3"!!) & my head was swimming...so much info & choices. Ended up going w/ my soft water company who also mfg., sell, install its own RO systems. It's Ecowater owned by Warren Buffett, which if nothing else told me it was a good company. Got a decent deal since I've been their customer for ~29 yrs. Asked about permeate pump....told not needed on its system. Seems very fast refill rate....I had wondered if I had to fill jugs in advance of watering days but won't have to after hearing how fast it regenerates supply. 17 gal./day capacity, which should be plenty for grow & regular usage. Thanks again brother.

The thanks go right back to you... circle of love, ya know mon :circle-of-love:

The permeate pump was like adding a super-charger to my 4-gallon under the sink roadster.

Since you went out and installed a Warren Buffett provided transport van, I doubt you need the extra kick :)

I partially pre-fill a water bucket before watering day - but thats because the RO shutoff valve I purchased from the local hardware store leaks. It's the kind of shutoff valve you find near sinks and toilets. In my experience, they rarely ever shutoff without leaking. I'd gladly pay 3 times the price for a valve that lasts a few decades, but it seems the valve companies in hardware stores don't think in terms of quality delivered to their customers.

P.S. I agree that Warren Buffett buys quality companies that work to satisfy clients. I don't have near as many a I used to, but I still have a few shares of Berkshire Hathaway set aside in my retirement nest egg.

I read, I scrolled back, I tried to figure it out but whats RO??????
Heres an example of what I picked yesterday.
Happy Harvest!

Wood need a better pic???? Sure you didn't get some soil or substrate splashed up on the bottom of the leafs after a spraying?? Spraying will stick it too the leafs too, so brushing it off won't work. So many colors doesn't look like bug eggs? Unless you have dead ones and live ones mixed after maybe a spraying? Good to see you DK. Now that RO is on its way I've been wondering why it took me so long to go to it indoors. Guess since tap wasn't causing serious problems outdoors, I thought I could deal with it indoors. The current batch has been so lightly fed that it became evident that tap & pH were the problem...not anything to do with nutrients. Sometimes so stupid takes me time to see things. Have a new boxed coffee pot that I've had for awhile & will introduce w/ the RO. Heard coffee & tea are way better w/ RO.

So you don't dispense the RO w/ its own faucet at kitchen sink? RO coming next wk!!

Sorry but last pic is shiity.
Whats this???

Looks like insects & eggs to me. Suggest always looking once in awhile at undersides of leaves....especially outdoors. Sorry to hear of this late development.

Hey Bright:ciao::ciao:

Your girls look green and happy :high-five:

Thanks Ms. B. Good to see you...hope you had great vacation.

Plants seem a little slower showing flowers in transition but otherwise looking quite healthy & vigorous since mixing tap w/ store bought water. Got some amazing fans w/ this batch of plants. Here is a 12 bladed fan from the Dead Banana.

I dispense the RO at the kitchen sink, the refrigerator ice / water dispenser, and 50 ft away inside the grow room.

If you want to see pictures, the details are at : Radogast's RO installation

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Hey there BL - mighty fine looking plants there - love that big fan! I usually let them fall off..

RO water should be perfect for ya... I wouldn't water with anything else!

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

So RO is water thats been filterd then stored in a tank???? What are its benefits? My faucet water runs 8.0 ph and I fill a couple buckets and PH it then water. Thats all I need to water 8 plants in a tent.

Re: Brightlight's Outdoor & LED Gardens

I never PH my water, but I don't need to. If your plants are very delicate then it might be useful. However remember that reverse osmosis will basically clean it from any mineral content, so the plants have to fed in much different way. It's just totally different approach, so you need to adjust your style.

Hey Dutch...how's all brotha! Ya , with the tap water....DON'T use it with the "Kit" , it has a lot of unfriendlies in it that our micro herd don't like. Chlorine , Chloramine...and other crap! Use distilled , RO or tested water of some kind , but NOT tap water it's highly NOT recommended OK! Cheers !

It hurts to cut off fans but sometimes sacrificing a few to clear light path is needed. RO should allow more precision/accuracy if that is even possible when growing in super soil. Looking forward to working with it though. :thanks:

RO is a very "complete" filtering...pure water. For me it's become necessary indoors to manage pH. My high pH alkaline tap is workable outdoors growing in the ground & large pots. I filter tap for chlorine & use dechlorinator to break up chloramine. My soil mixes are also calcium rich. Experimenting over the years showed me that our plant loves Ca & Mg & can generally absorb a lot of both. Helps grow rock solid hard buds. With access to more soil outdoors the root zone safely buffers pH swings & tolerates high mineral levels. But indoors I've seen & learned that high pH & mineral content tap caused regular pH problems....exacerbated by coco in small containers. pH problems often look like overfeeding....including burnt tips & tip clawing. Experimenting w/ nutrient levels & pH confirmed it's pH & not over feeding.

So Dutch that's why I'm going RO indoors....think it will be a big deal as others say. Outdoors will still use tap & improve it some. :Namaste:

When I first moved here there were way fewer people & it rained a lot more so even towards end of summer water while hard was not as extreme as it has gotten w/ population growth & drought. You got it con..."adjust your style", part of the art of growing...always changing trying to get better.

Good point re microbes duggan. I inoculate like a mofo. Lots of stuff we do hurt our little friends.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

So RO water is tap water thats been filterd by a machine then stored in a reservoir? Ive got hard well water where Im at with a PH of 8.0. I ph'd the nute feed for my yard grow but not the plain water.
My tent I PH all.
Everything couldent look better. Yard grows buds are the densest Ive grown. Thank you Fox Farm!!!!
