Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Cutting high pH alkaline tap with store bought RO & distilled has stabilized & corrected recent pH related problems. Seeing a lot more of this.

Some early frost.....this is the runt DPD x Do Si Do at 3 wks. of 12/12.

Reaching for the sky. Looks great. If you have to use tap water, it couldn't hurt to put acouple buckets aside for a day or two. Chlorine will evaporate off overnight if that's the worry. Everybodies water supply is different. Some are real hard, too hard needed special hard water fertilizers, and then some with such a low ppm count you best be adding cal-mag. My water is below 25 ppm leading to calicium problems with afew strains here and there, even tho I amend some bone/meal in the mix. Doesn't hurt to go look at your water supply, online. Most utilities companies have a site that breaks down your drinking water. Most places I've lived I've used tap water for my plants. Unless I was doing some form of hydro. If it's not broke,,, and if it is, get a bigger hammer. Keepem Green

Brightlight........ Damp Rid, do I get the housing with the individual refill packets??? Do I get unscented??? Do I even need it with the tents humidity 40-70% with a cheap meter???? I think the answers are yes?
Ive been looking at RSO oil and might make my own.

Tap ppm here is ~400. Worked ok on outdoor garden w/ few problems. But in a 2 gal. indoor pot the pH & TDS caused pH problems. RO to the rescue! I've always used a hose end filter to remove chlorine on all plant water. Good results from inexpensive solution. Then I'd put Microbe Hydro's DeChlorinator at ~10 drops/gal. to remove more chlorine & more importantly break up the chloramine molecules. A very effective low cost product. The local water report was a complicated mess since the water has multiple sources. It did confirm TDS much higher than desired for our plants.

I don't have humidity or moisture conditions that I have to address so not familiar with that product. I like rH in 40's during flower. Higher in veg when I can get it. My veg tent runs hotter & dryer than my larger flower tent....hard to even keep it in 40's rH unless I soak the pots, which I don't do until ~mid veg. With your bountiful outdoor crop RSO may be a good option.

I guess I will chance it and if I get mold I will address it the next run.
Ive been researching the RSO and yes it seems like the thing to do. I went to the store today and bought some Indica Oil by Chronic Essentials and its ok. I will take a bigger dose next time. The Utube vids with R.Simpson are incredible. Thanks!

Tent at 4 weeks.
3+ wks. of stretch. Percent stretch 59% to 122%, group average 83%. The runt DPD x Do Si Do went 122% from 9" to 20" in a 1 gal. pot.

I'm not overwhelmed by bud size but it's still early. These plants went through some stress as seedlings & again in mid/late veg. Ok now but could factor in. Having to add more Ca to compensate for lost tap water Ca. Fragrance ok to pretty good but still a little muddled, undefined. Visual frost & stickiness is very good to excellent for 4 wks. A damn good sign...frost & goo over size & scent anytime.

Thanks NCW. Looking forward to some fresh herb. Without an outdoor grow this year I've been using up all the old strains...more than 2 doz. Some a year old. The Bovedas work so well. But w/ time everything declines (I'm a living example).

Back on track, they are all looking real nice. That gelato has a nice round top and thick white stigmas...wonder what she's got in store for you. :Namaste:

Hope she finishes strong. She may be the most prized freebie I've ever received & grown. She's 13 days younger than rest of grow & tied for tallest in tent. This is when I wish I had a small mother room. Tell you what....In House Genetics looking like a keeper.

Hey Btightlight! :ciao:

Some damn fine jewel encrusted ladies you've got there.

Looking really good BL :tokin::rollit:

Welcome back from all your travels Ms. B. Thanks for nice words. Frosty coats...when they show up...may be the best visual of growing, even better than color or bud structure.

Beautiful garden mate.count me in.top work;) happy growing

Thank you beast. My 2nd auto grow is coming up in a couple of months. Would like you for & NCW to keep me on the right track.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

So RO is water thats been filterd then stored in a tank???? What are its benefits? My faucet water runs 8.0 ph and I fill a couple buckets and PH it then water. Thats all I need to water 8 plants in a tent.

We use RO water here because OUR tap water will kill the plants... Its been tested .. it tastes like crap, is full of lead and chlorine and fluoride ... not suitable for human consumption let alone watering plants.

I'm an organic farmer so everything the plant needs to finish is already in the soil. I don't need to do anything but water.. but sometimes I do foilers for IPM and add in some goodies! I think that the goodies just make ME feel better! Just sayin...

Hey there BL.. nice looking buds there buddy! :high-five:

Ya wanna kick up the terpenes get some organic malted barley .. water in FTW.

For Cal get some calcium carbonate food grade and add to the watering... also you can use Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate AKA Gypsum... that wont alter the PH if you are concerned about that sort of thing. Gypsum gives you some added sulfur... which is a good thing.

To be honest tho.. plants look perfect... water FTW! Yer killing it!

Thanks for organic ingredient tips bb. Gypsum is a mainstay....at the height of my water/pH crisis, I was using gypsum as primary Ca source avoiding another personal mainstay....bonemeal. With RO now seeing leaf stuff I hadn't seen for a long time....including Ca deficiencies. My tap was so loaded w/ Ca, I rarely saw it before. I had gotten pretty good at gardening w/ high alkaline, high pH water but dealing w/ Ca def. sure beats the wild water/pH ride I was on. :thanks:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Mid Flower
HSO Dedoverde Haze - one of the most "tortured" from pH...good thing she's a strong plant. Last to show frost, ~2 wks. later than others. Bushy growth & shape despite 80% sativa. Same pine, forest scent but less intense than last DH. This one adds some rubber & solvent aromas. Note the very thick milky white stigmas. Not translucent at tips like most. Pic ~5 wks.

Headband (Loud Seeds)
As mentioned before a Chem & OG cross not really a Headband. Maybe the hardest hit by the bad pH. These pH problems, while curable, do seem to leave residual leaf problems like minor tip burn. Great plant shape here & should be a decent yielder, which can't be said for all. Starting to smell like a Chemdog but still mostly sweet & fruity. Pic also at ~5 wks.

Double Purple Doja x Do Si Do
This is my 1 gal. runt experiment. I'd never grown an indoor 1 gal. & had no expectations except to salvage something from this genetic. Obviously, I'm stoked & excited. Growing in a 1 gal. seems to exacerbate any & all soil, pH, nutrient issues. These pics are at 6+ wks. & based on bud appearance, I'd pick her already. But not at 46 days...trichomes just starting to get cloudy. Maybe 2 wks. more max....hate to sacrifice peak bud appearance waiting for trichome changes.

Luther Dogman x Trainwreck
This skinny, fashion model style plant had great slender habit, great shape from start, beautiful flat dark green leaves, huge blade counts on fans. But she also has the most meager buds of recent history. I really wondered if the lost Ca from the tap water was a factor. Buds slowly filling in but will not be what I'm used to getting. But she has become a personal favorite. You'll see why from the pic. Hope she's as potent as she looks at 5 wks.
