Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Thank you guys! Appreciate your support, following & kind words. Strains are a big part of the fun so happy to hear that my selections are of interest.

3 Weeks of 12/12.

Cole Train
"Whorled Phyllotaxy". Thanks for that CareStaker. Looks just like a topped plant, doesn't it? The part I dig are all those resulting laterals. Turning out to be a nice plant. She has an amazing appetite for Mg.

Grow Room Recap
Since not everyone has been here from the start, I'm going to recap some of the grow room basics. Most important is the "Brightlight", which is an Illumitex DS. 520 watts. 2' x 4' footprint. 96 LED "pkgs." with 16 diodes/pkg. at 5.4 watts/pkg. Fully dimmable, which has turned out to be a great feature. All flowering done directly under LED footprint for maximum umols so really growing in a 2' x 4' area.

Gorilla 4 x 4 tent using full 8' height extension. Vortex S-line 6" fan & Phresh filter. All plants grown in 2 gallon Root Pouch (grey level) pots. Coco medium. Fully amended....I use wide variety of stuff, 12-15 ingredients, but not a lot of any one ingredient. Details always available to anyone that is interested.

Only "training" is FIM. Usually 3/plant/grow. Sometimes a top to slow down a runaway....usually a sativa. Some late supercropping if necessary also for height control.

The Brightlight

Just installed my own Vortex S6....so impressed. Whisper quiet and soo efficient at moving the heat out. I'm having to heat my tent still even with HPS.

Cole Train looks awesome, love that structure. I've never seen one do that in particular, where it was the top node, that's just so cool. She's Autofimming. :) Gotta love the mutants. :circle-of-love:

CareStaker.....it was the 4th node up from the bottom. Got about 6 more nodes on each of the 2 resulting main stems above the mutation. Out of curiosity I've left all resulting laterals to see how it ends up. I wouldn't mind getting a few more like this.

Agree Trig....very quiet. I just put in a Blauberg Turbo 4" in a veg tent since no 4" S-line. Blauberg is quiet too, but S-line beats it.

Last of LA Chocolat harvested in June
IMG_181425.jpg

Uncle....I really like this strain but have been using it as mid to late night herb. It's plenty strong so at night after the usual sativa to indica daily swing, I need something that will give me a supercharge or lift that I can feel & enjoy. LA Chocolat does that for me, but it's my frequent choice at night because it has far less tendency than other indica types to make me fall asleep right away.

After your post I decided to check it out as my 1st vape bowl of the day. I don't detect much chocolate smells, but my son said "chocolate" when I asked him to smell it w/o telling him what strain it was. I get a little sweet coffee & also a little cedar & musk that made me think of Bubba. It's very smooth on the inhale, but has a sneaky but not excessive expansion after the hit. Some nice mild flavor notes on the exhale too.

Effect is pretty quick....hits you within a couple of minutes. My Arizer Solo times out after 12 min. At that point LAC is in full force.....physical stone felt all around the eyes & face. Very placid & dreamy. Body feels great & very relaxed. But the 40% sativa content keeps the mind flowing with happy & contented feelings. I could have easily just spent the afternoon in a relaxed chill, but went ahead with my planned transplant of 6 seedlings. After that I prepped & cooked dinner. So for 3 hrs. I stayed active & mentally engaged w/o little sense of come down. Enjoyed it all. LAC high lasts a long time at an enjoyable level throughout. A 2nd bowl after dinner was pretty darn good considering it was 2nd of day.

After growing this plant, I bought a full seed pack. Will next try one outdoors next year. Your smoke report request made me pay more attention to LAC's detail & qualities.....so thanks. Not just my usual.... :lot-o-toke:

Thanks for the smoke report. :Namaste::high-five:

That was WAY more in depth and detailed than I expected but I sure do appreciate it. I hope that i can resist the urge to dip into my LA Chocolat stash for another couple of weeks. :)

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Drive by. Over the 'Bridge of Sighs'. I took the Cole Train awhile back. But like you said alot is in the strains. Least the chase is here. I like to always have that perfect 10 to find. For that reason I'd NEVER rate a herb a 10 in my book and very few +9. Least I haven't seen it. I'm trying to remember my Cole Train...Wow that was like a freebie like 3-4 years back. I think. Naw it was 2010 in
'Wood's Doghouse' a defunked thread of mine that I grew it. I'm drawing a blank cept the claims from ad's. But don't them ad's sound tasty? Not saying she can't be a great cut. I just plain don't remember what she was like. Too many strains been past the palette over the last 30 years to Keepem all in order,,,, Keepem Green

Damn since the net gave me excess to the seed banks, I've been like a kid in a candy store myself. Man they can sure make them sound good cant they? I like to find them deal with like 14 freebies for under 250 or so. I have a tin in my office drawer full of strains.

Some damn nice freebies now & then....hard to get them in a grow when so preoccupied with the ones I buy. But I'm going to keep trying.:theband:

Looking proper. And I do love your strains.

Thanks DK. Picking the strains lineup is as much fun as growing.

Inside I only use 2 gal. Like growing in a thimble next to your 26's. :laughtwo: Been growing only directly under light footprint, only 8 sq. ft. Might try some 3's & adjust LED bars out a little. Have to feed a little more in the smaller pots. Thanks duggan.:Namaste:

Outdoor Update

Cut last 3 outdoor plants in October. Really good weather but MANY real hot days considering it was Oct. High 80's to mid 90's. Tropical storms over Mexico sent up more humidity than normal.

White Master Kush
1st outdoor try after 2 indoors last yr. She showed some promise of heavy frost early but didn't go on to be anything spectacular. Little fragrance either. But buds were FAT. The surprise came when I tried it. The purple indoor plant was damn good, but this plain jane plant easily matched it for potency. Top 2 for me along with the Chem91 for this yrs. outdoor.

Cheese XXL auto. This little auto strain smoked nice. My son gave it a rave review. Learning that autos are potent enough to fool around with.

And that proves to me again that well grown outdoor plant will match THC level of any indoor plant if the right pheno has been drawn! Very nice plant, bright!

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

That auto does look serious, wow.

I'd love a taste of that OG though. She looks like she's leaning a bit more sativa, than I expected. I'm just musing here, but I'm wondering if that pink look could be the Hawaiian in the Lemon Thai, expressing herself. I love all things Chem, but as with ecsd, the Hawaiian really balanced it out to perfection. She's on the top of my bean list, thanks my friend!

Mornin Bright ....wow my brotha, your O/S girls are rockin it. lookin tasty indeed. :yummy: Cheers and have a great day bud!

Thank you duggan. Always good to see ya. :passitleft:

Thanks buddy. Overall outdoor potency this season reassured me that what you say is correct. Yields much lower for some reason(s), but acceptable due to potency. :high-five:

Hey CareStaker...been getting lots of finished red/brown colors lately & love it, but my aging Canon Powershot tends to give pics a little more red tint when flash goes off. Never add any photo enhancements to my pics. iPad is other choice but no flash & not as good w/ macro type pics.

I know you will kill the Lost Coast when you get around to her. The indoor Cherry OG I have going looks similar to LC, which is a bit of a surprise. Maybe not that much Cherry Thai added to the LC or just my pheno?

BTW...want to THANK YOU again for info on cutting leaves during harvest & smell. Want to share w/ others too. I've stopped ALL leaf cutting during harvest. Just snap off fans & hang upside down as usual. Result was ZERO "hay smell" on every outdoor plant this yr. Very good tip Professor. :Namaste:

A couple of INDOOR pics while I'm here. 3 "shades" of sativa bud....more flower variants than typically more homogenous indica buds. All were at 3+ wk. stage. All at least 75% S/I.

Jacky White
Maybe a little more of the indica showing?
IMG_183711.jpg

Mekong High
Seems more of the landrace look? Slight pink tint to pistils too.
IMG_183820.jpg

Tangilope
Maybe something in between the first 2? A lovely bud...."detergent clean" pistil whiteness.

Thanks all & may your gardens be THRIVING!

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Sensie Star Rocks. I love it for a indoor strain. It has won alot of awards, but that is if you get the true one. Take White Widow, Every breeder has their version of it, but only one is the award winner. All the rest are just breeders attempts to copy it. You know I've been playing with auto's up here. They should be perfect for the shorter seasons we have around here. This year was stellar. We usually get rains Oct 1st here. Makes for a short flower season. I bought a grab bag of seeds from Bhudda. If you got to their site they have a great deal. 50 like >3$ per seed. I've had some interesting plants. Yields 4-5 Oz's off some. And yes they are getting pretty potent. That first Lowrider #1,,, I got plants that yielded a 1/4 of a oz of mid-range herbs. If you ever want to try some, they do have a great deal. Find someone who reads Spanish. I've seen that Spain has a lot of vendors playing with them. I also got a grab bag from Short Stuff of regular seed. So far I'm not impressed with them, but I've yet to do a cut of some. Some dude grew one that yielded two pounds in 135 days outdoors in Washington State. Plant looked o be 8-9' tall. I know I've got acouple that hit 4'. But on the bad note I'm flowering my auto's with non-auto's. Under 12/12. Auto's do better under 18/6. But what ya going to do? But I'm liking some of these auto's,,, maybe next time I do a auto only grow. GL and hope she smokes up as good as she looks. Keepem Green

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

it's amazing man, looking at your plants that is.

i read a research sometime ago about plant stress levels. Turns out that plants stress on a different scale, meaning that even when they don't go through a tremendous shock like getting transplanted, they still feel stress based on their enviroment.

what i see here is a couple of ladies, being more comfortable than ever, chilling and enjoying every second.

excellent job my friend, can't wait to see more of these happy girls

:high-five:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Nice Bright!! Looks like they're ready to rock.
I've read through the last few pages a few times, you guys are dropping some serious pot knowledge!

What's going on underneath? I went back a little, couldn't find it.
