Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

Re: Props to you

Just driving thru. I recognize them pots. JK kind of. I found some knock off's for great price. think they a smarter pots. Naw JK cheap thin denimi type material. Hey you can reuse them smart pots afew times. I see the bulb food. Maybe a bone meal product ?? Great slow release calcium and phosphorus source. All but nitrogen I think. Hey throw alittle blood meal and worm crap and you got it going on. Sorry I don't get around as much lately,,, but it's a scary world out there..... Girls look fine. Keepem Green

Hey Brightlight!

Super looking buds and those outdoor girls look very happy.

Thanks for the advice re transition feeding in my thread. I will have to add that bulb food to the stuff I will bring back from the U.S. When we visit late August early September. For now I will be feeding BioBizz Bloom, and Plagron Green Sensation with an occasional shot of FishMix.

Hope you are having a sterling Saturday :thumb:

Good to see ya NCW & Bapple from way over your way. NC...those are Geopots. Better than Smart's imo as Geos have a thick hemmed top so not floppy like Smarts. Those are 7's, which give me 4-6 footers. Have had a few runaways that hit 7-8' in that size pot. Indoors I use Root Pouch grays (middle of 3 grades). Found them cheap at Greenhouse Superstore dot com. 2 gal. less than $1 ea. Amazing, right? I was planning to throw away after ea. grow, but haven't since they stayed clean & in good shape.

Ok, here's what's in the EBS Bulb Food: feather meal, bone meal, chicken manure, bat guano, alfalfa & kelp meal, K sulfate plus lesser amts. of humic acid, & our 3 microbe buddies...bacteria, fungi, & mycorrhizae. Other brands are similar. I have all of this stuff separately except the chicken poop & K sulfate, & it's all in the soil mix. But it's easier at transition to just top dress w/ 1 product. Us old growers need more shortcuts. When 420 has an "oldest grower of month" contest, I might have a chance.

I don't use blood meal only because of old belief from early mountain hippy growing days that the blood has adrenalin in it due to stress of animal being killed. Questionable I know but made sense to me then so I've never used it. We had no 420 forums, no books, no internet then so there were all kinds of growing ideas & theories. Not a vegan by any stretch but those Kushman veganics growers are showing some impressive plants.

A lot of times I read how great original Master Kush is, but it's getting rarer and rarer these days. I actually grew one cross of it back in the days and it was some great weed! This Chemdawg is also very interesting, I was eying HSO version hearing it was one of the best weed they had in stock, but I might give that one a try in the future. Whatever CC cut it with the quality came through I see :thumb:

I am watching the evolution of terpene tests and how some terpenes correlate to effects.

With different terpene profiles for different strains, they can now produce a terpene map similar to a light spectrum map. Once a couple of major breeders and review sites like leafly start advertising the terpene profiles, other breeders will have to list their terpene profiles. We will the SEE who has real Master Kush. We will see if their White Widow looks, tastes, and performs like Black Widow - or actually looks just like their 'Panama' and 'Kush' strains.

It might be a fantasy, but I'd like to see it happen :)

Hey con & Rad. Almost everything in life seems to be regulated these days, but not truth in labeling of our seeds. So we have to take it on faith & do our own determinations through our grows. The OGR MK seems legit. Strong similarities to Cali Bubba, its close kin, that was parent of Corleone Kush. Very close in smell & taste: cedar, pepper, sage. Parallel bud shape & size. Both show purple. Both hermy as often said. These kind of things plus info from research give me confidence that I've got gear that is fairly accurate & reputable.

I'd love to see you grow some Italian Chemdawg brother! The Cali 91 Skunk VA is supposed to be selfed from original clone. Dinafem Dinachem is supposed to be orig. clone x Guana Chem to resuscitate the weakening 91 clone. The Guava is tied to the orig. from the JJ-NY TopDawg line & AJ's Stardawg. I don't breed so IDK. As I've said, been on the OG trail for yrs. & this "orig" Chemdawg is better overall than almost all OG's I grown.

Rad...I've heard that someone did a complete DNA on the top strains. When you get down to it, modern genetics all have some % of the classics...Skunk, Haze, etc. I tend to stick to leading breeders & do what research I can. Cali's Swerve is a controversial guy who has a mixed rep but he seems to be connected & gets some killer cuts to work with. I've grown 9 Cali strains & haven't had one I didn't like yet. All FIRE. Like your idea though.

Good to see ya all!:circle-of-love:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Damn That's a contest 'd have to enter. I don't enter any of the contests myself, and haven't for years. I leave that for the younger peoples. But Oldest Grower???????? I'd have a chance. Keepem Green

Quick Outdoor Update
Chem 91
A slender fashion model type gal who refused to get fat despite 3 fims. She just ignored them & stayed slim. Just into bloom & emitting some skunky diesel scent. About 5' tall. Will be a minuscule yield but every once in awhile, one of these run of the mill plants surprise me by being especially potent. Hoping anyway.

EmDog
Like the 91, EmDog was grown indoors earlier this yr. This short fat girl is a month younger than the original batch. She was a replacement plant for a chopped male. About 3' now. Great shape here...only 1 fim. Same floral sweet scent like indoor version...very different from most OG's.

Early buds
1st two pics are Girl Scout Cookies. Last is Purple Diesel. GSC was tallest up to starting bloom. PD passed her up even though she is a week younger. Both are close to 5' tall.

Any Favorite Fertilizers or Supplements?
With so many experienced, advanced growers here, I wouldn't presume to tell anyone what to use but for fun here are 2 favorites for my plants. I mentioned using Bulb Food in transition. Along with it I always reload with Langbeinite aka Sul Po Mag in transition into early bloom. It's a natural crystalline mineral that is imo the best Mg source available. Good dose of sulfur for ripening plus slow steady K supply. I keep some liquid CaMg around but find I seldom have to use it. A mainstay ingredient for me. Fish Fertilizer may be my plants' all time favorite food. If you don't use it, it's probably due to the smell. Varies by brand but does take some getting used to. It's like healthy crack for my plants. They always look so alive & healthy after fish fert. Imo plants look better after fish fert. than compost tea. The NPK also varies, all over the board actually. This one is 2-4-0 & is perfect for transition/early flower. A friend told me I'd lost my mind when I told him I started using it indoors. I did have to offset the smell with some rosemary based gnat killer & turned up the fan to high for a spell!

Bright, good to see you. I've recently lost about 120 pounds and I'm back in business. I'm full organic, I just saw you come up and had to pop by.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Loving the outdoor lineup, and Sneak Preview strains. The Em is looking super sweet, and the Chem is sexy as hell. I've been liking HSO as well, as you know. I'm gonna kick back, and enjoy the view.

Thanks for dropping by & kind words CS. Appreciate it as you're definitely a consensus "master grower".

This Chemdawg '91 looks genuine, classic lanky OG :cheesygrinsmiley:

Lanky is a good description con. She hasn't changed much...still lean & sparse. A couple of recent pictures below. This plant is a lot like those from my early growing days where I knew nothing about feeding, shaping, or anything else really. Just planted & hoped for the best.

How'd I miss this journal!? I'm in now! looks great BL!

Outdoor Update

Morning partial group picture. Lost Coast OG on left, Girl Scout Cookies in center, White Master on right.

Cali Connection GSC is a new strain for me. Some CC haters say it is not pure GSC but Fortune Cookies (GSC x SFV OG). Topped out ~5' in 7 gal. pot. Early girl now ~6 wks. into bloom. Told that straight Durban is a very early bloomer in NorCal. IDK. Melon scent with some floral notes. Buds are pretty darn fat! Most are now between 1.5" to 2" in diameter. Leaves yellowing & fading fast. No concern but not used to seeing this advanced stage in August.

Cali Connection Purple Diesel is also new for me. This is Sour Diesel x Bubba. Slightly over 5' also in 7 gal. pot. I've grown several Cali Sour Diesel & Bubba strains, but this cross is unique from previously grown strains. Scent is mostly lime citrus with some faint putrid fruit/egg smell. Sounds bad but actually ok. I always like the lighter lime green leaf color. Frost showing up & looking pretty on the light green buds. Buds are good sized, but not huge at 4+ wks. into bloom. A trimmer's delight too...plant never was leafy & fading hard like GSC.

Cali Connection Chem 91 is ~5' & ~3 wks. into bloom. She's in the ground at a spot that has generally grown large, high yielders, but not this year. CC has her at 60/40 S/I, & this plant surely leans toward the sativa side. Yield will be meager & may be less than the 2 CC 91's grown indoors in 2 gal. pots earlier this yr. But...there are positives. She is easily the stickiest of the 3 that I've covered in this update. Not that smelly but very sticky.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Nice,,,,,, hope you got gentle rains down there. Nice shot there. Kind of looks like your girls are alittle further along than most of mine. Good thing or I'd have lost more to our T-Storms this morning. I kind of noticed some plants I am growing are in need of more nitrogen than others. And I find at time organics don't always have all a plant wants. All that does is give ya alittle extra or earlier a taste of yellow. Some times you kind of have to 'juice' a plant with heavy nutrients if they scream for it. I don't see any screaming here... Nice Babies Keepem Green
