Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Buzzalicious plants, Brightlight. With your excellent photos and description, I can almost taste them :rollit::yummy:

Thanks Rad. If you come back to Oakland for a visit, come on over & we'll taste all of them!:high-five:

Two more strains from June indoor harvest. Pics outdoors on cut day so I could see true colors under natural light. A good grow across the board with some new strains. Last two are Strawberry Banana & Dedoverde Haze.

Reserva Privada Strawberry Banana
Serious Seeds Strawberry Pheno of Bubblegum x DNA partner Crockett's Banana Kush (Ghost x Skunk), 70/30 I/S but you'd think it was 70/30 S/I, wide eyed, positive, upbeat, but you never miss the calming, relaxation from the BK. Candy store, mild fruit scent was my take, but a couple of testers actually said "strawberry" or "banana" w/o knowing what it was. Maybe the strongest of grow. Gave me a hard time as seedlings but cool, trouble free after that.

HSO Dedoverde Haze
Another B-real - Kief Sweat strain marketed through HSO. Original California Haze x Amnesia. KS got his Haze in Redding CA in 1995 & crossed it with the original Amnesia. 80/20 S/I. This is a NICE STRAIN! Sativa all the way....happy, positive, ultra sense of well being but with a smooth, calm & placid effect, maybe from the Northern Lights. Pine, damp forest, spicy, slightly musky scent & similar taste. The fun part of this plant was the king sized buds from terminal all the way down every branch. Nice to have a very clear sativa. This one stays in the ever expanding rotation.

I'm still messing around with edibles. Staying with Chocolate Toffee Cookies for last few batches. The chocolate & toffee work well together to overshadow the slight cannabis taste. Here's what I find are the biggest variables in baking edibles: how much weed to use & how long to decarb. Decarb time & temps vary widely on web. Some seem pretty reliable & include graphed data. I've kept temps around 230º but have varied oven time from 40 to 80 min. I use 40g./batch, which comes out to ~0.25g. butter/cookie. I like them on the lighter side but last batch tried 3, one on the hr. for two hrs. In 4th & 5th hr. I was seriously wasted, but then it gets mellow again like the start. Slight hangover. Great sleep medicine for me.

Outdoor garden...a little scaled back this year....time for a mild growing breather. Still fairly young & in veg but here are a few pics.

HSO Headband
A freebie from "Regular" side of HSO house...whatever that means? All Sour Diesels & x's are always welcomed here. This one turned out male but it's natural shape & branching made it worth growing out & watching awhile. Only reason for pic.

Emerald Triangle Lost Coast OG & OG Raskal White Master Kush
Lost Coast on left & WMK on right. Morning & early pm sun only. If you can see the 2 soil indentations in back of pic, those were 2 former very good growing spots that have been retired. Were good spots too but now not enough sun.

Cali Connection Girl Scout Cookies
Damn happy she's a girl! This is my 1st GSC. I heard it doesn't branch much, but this plant did just fine. Biggest plant so far & it's potted. Usually my ground plants grow bigger. Now officially flowering, which is as early as I can remember.

Liked the sunlight going through the leaves. 2 boys before guillotine day, the HB & a Mango Tango, which won SoCal Cannabis Cup this yr. So damn.

Early flowering, you're lucky. I hope my indicas are gonna start pretty soon, it would be nice :smokin:

The cannabis plants are very fine. The zen garden backdrop is magnificently peaceful.

I'd smoke there :)

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Stunning garden and plants BL. Great strain info too. The Dedoverde Haze and Strawberry Banana are so striking, such amazing girls, congrats on your harvest of beauties! :circle-of-love:

Thank you for kind words CS. Outdoor growing experience was definitely helpful, but indoor grows are similar yet kinda different at the same time. Thinking of bumping up to 3 gal. like you on a couple plants next time to see differences.

Early flowering, you're lucky. I hope my indicas are gonna start pretty soon, it would be nice :smokin:

At ~37º North flowering is usually late July to early August. Last few yrs. Paradise Jacky White was consistently mid-July, which I thought was early for here. But this Cali GSC surprised me! CA is in serious drought, you can see differences/changes in many plants & trees...weather also a little odd for here. Lots of temp. fluctuation between damn hot to real cool & breezy. More humid lately too. IDK, but maybe some impact on flowering?

Thanks Rad. Appreciate it....I definitely think our plants "pick up" on such things. Have you read much of Jason King's Cannabible? He writes about that aspect of plants & growing. E.g., he says if multiple growers all grow the same strain, each resulting plant will reflect vibes of her grower. And if a single grower grows out say 5 different strains, each of the 5 will reflect a commonality, vibe/quality emanating from that grower. He is also the one who I first saw that said that female growers can be some of the highest echelon growers since our favored plants are also female. He also really knowledgeable on strains.

Only just got here, but gorgeous looking buds and a striking garden overall; inside and outside. :thumb:

Hello Bapple! Thank you for visiting & your nice compliment. :welcome:

I'm quite sure heavy sun speeds up the flowering as I have another miracle throwing amber trichs at around 100F in the shadow, but it might trigger it too, who knows? :smokin:

CA in serious drought.... my home state. After living in Ca and Arizona, It was bizarre to go to the east coast or Georgia and hear what they call a drought. They don't understand the value and meaning of water as a scarce resource.

I haven't read Jason King's Cannabible. Our land, and anywhere my wife lives, is full of spirit activity. I'm trying to get my brain out of deductive mode and start listening to the spirits directly rather than as other people interpret them. When my brain goes into the right state, like last Saturday, the world becomes a magical place full of beauty and joy. I figure my job is to give the plants, animals, and spirits a safe place to be joyful. Sometimes, I remember to do my job.

I use book learning to look for solutions. I need to set aside the books to listen to and experience more of the natural world :)

But isn't Cali in a drought state 3/4th of the time????????? JK errr kind of.. I remember when North Cali wanted to become it's own state over the water situation. We got a drought going on here in Portland Area of all places. One of the wettest cities.

Dedoverde Haze and Strawberry Banana look awesome! And soon those vegging girls are gonna be amazing. I pick up on a bit of the same personality in all of your plants too :) you must be a very vibrant and healthy guy bright!

Re: Props to you

Back before doggone shoulder episode, I had harvested 2 other strains besides the EmDog & the Belladonna. Down to the end so here's a couple of pics & thoughts.

OG Raskal White Master
OGR has fine rep out west....sorta cult status. Only breeder that specializes in The White. Crossed here with the SoCal Master Kush. Grew 2...a green plant was just another fine herb, slight hermie plant. The other purpled showing the SoCal MK side. Excellent but got better w/ cure. 50/50 S/I, but damn stoney. Made for evening relaxing. Golf ball style buds. Fun to get some nice color....purple & lots of red. A lot to like with this strain.

Cali Connection Chem 91
Billed as the genuine Chemdawg...with the Skunk VA handle attached for authenticity. I should have grown this a long time ago. High powered weed! Permanent high level rotation here now. Great head, amazing creative energy together with massive indica power. I love it! Low trichomes until deep into bloom. My reaction was "com'on, wtf, crap, I musta blew it." They showed up but not blanket style. I went 72 days on one & 86 days on the 2nd, an experiment. Not much notable difference. Definitive pinesol, lemon fuel smell & taste.

Top bud is the 86 day version. Bottom 2 are 72 day buds.

A few outdoor pics....really a fun grow this year. Less plants thanks to indoor gardening. Love outdoor growing....lots of mellow contemplative time outdoors in yard, a peaceful place for me. Late veg...2 in early bloom, GSC leading the way & Purple Diesel right behind. Both Cali Connection regulars that came through....female!

L to R: GSC, Lost Coast OG, Purple Diesel, White Master, EmDog

White Master

GSC...like the bud size for July
IMG_125619.JPG

Bulb Food is good transition food...designed for bulb growing so lasts awhile. Helpful since transition start/end is fuzzier outdoors. Without a light flip, each plant does its own thing.

Thanks for checking things out. :Namaste:

Local sewer plant giving out reclaimed water so folks can water their yards. Demand overwhelming from other counties so now reserved for locals. Crazy seeing rich people who were willing to pay the fines last year now hauling new trailers filled with new containers behind their Denali's & other nice vehicles.

Re: Props to you

Great journal you have brightlight! What a nice harvest you had in 2014. Guess I'm a tad late:) Indoor and outdoor plants are so healthy and such a wide variety strains. Nice information on each post also. Good stuff!:thumb:

Glad to see ya AllSmiles! I really enjoyed your journal as well.

Haha SG. I never thought of it that way....I thought he was talking about the herb's effect! Thanks.

Welcome brother.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Just driving thru. I recognize them pots. JK kind of. I found some knock off's for great price. think they a smarter pots. Naw JK cheap thin denimi type material. Hey you can reuse them smart pots afew times. I see the bulb food. Maybe a bone meal product ?? Great slow release calcium and phosphorus source. All but nitrogen I think. Hey throw alittle blood meal and worm crap and you got it going on. Sorry I don't get around as much lately,,, but it's a scary world out there..... Girls look fine. Keepem Green

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Hey Brightlight!

Super looking buds and those outdoor girls look very happy.

Thanks for the advice re transition feeding in my thread. I will have to add that bulb food to the stuff I will bring back from the U.S. When we visit late August early September. For now I will be feeding BioBizz Bloom, and Plagron Green Sensation with an occasional shot of FishMix.

Hope you are having a sterling Saturday :thumb:

A lot of times I read how great original Master Kush is, but it's getting rarer and rarer these days. I actually grew one cross of it back in the days and it was some great weed! This Chemdawg is also very interesting, I was eying HSO version hearing it was one of the best weed they had in stock, but I might give that one a try in the future. Whatever CC cut it with the quality came through I see :thumb:

I am watching the evolution of terpene tests and how some terpenes correlate to effects.

With different terpene profiles for different strains, they can now produce a terpene map similar to a light spectrum map. Once a couple of major breeders and review sites like leafly start advertising the terpene profiles, other breeders will have to list their terpene profiles. We will the SEE who has real Master Kush. We will see if their White Widow looks, tastes, and performs like Black Widow - or actually looks just like their 'Panama' and 'Kush' strains.

It might be a fantasy, but I'd like to see it happen :)
