Boo’s Perpetual Grow Journal

Congrats on the seed drop and the harvests! And regarding this:

The roots on the spog® had nothing to do with you! Here are the roots of my Brooklyn Sunrise Auto spog®:

Were your roots less than that? Spogs gonna spog!™
Thank you! Zkittles is up and smiling. Still waiting for the Bruce Banner. Maybe I should try to piss it off to get it to grow faster...lol. My little weirdo had even less roots than that, none that thick, just lots of little short thin ones. I believe she got to a total of 10 inches.

Alright. Here are pics I promised last night. I’m still figuring out how to quote certain sections of posts, add names to pictures, Etc. I love my iPad but there are differences between it and a laptop... first pic Is the little glass flower screens.

I couldn’t find the third one - maybe in the pipe in the shop. Second pic is the GRAV.

I sure love this little guy. Tiny little bowl on it but really the perfect size for just enough weed and the little flower screen works so well in it. I’ve never liked metal screens.

Third pic is of the massive knuckle on the Cindy in the tent. I am going to need to do more super cropping but will practice on the ones outside first. Fourth pic is of both plants in the tent. They are a little droopy but I am getting them a little drier than usual to help work on my watering practices - I plan to reread @Emilyas watering tutorials again tonight.

I am going to need to defoliate soon but wanted to wait until after their next feeding which should be tonight or tomorrow. I think I will give them half the recommended MC at that time. Quick question - how much should I expect them to take in, in a 5 gallon bucket before it starts to run off? These two were tall and lanky so I just bent them in half. Fifth pic is of the Cindys outside the building. Although I thought I had made them more 90 degrees you can see that one of them isn’t truly “flat” I’m going to fix that soon. ;) You can see the growtent through the window, and they fact that we haven’t finished painting that one panel!

That’s it for now. Stay stoned my friends!

I’m in the process of drying and curing and have been looking at a lot of threads and trying to figure out who’s doing what and how. I believe it was @InTheShed who said he uses oven bags. I thought to myself “do I have any oven bags? I wonder why oven bags?

I I have ziploc bags and some very old steamer bags. Will the steamer bags not work well? I need to get some oven bags!” So, I got oven bags today. Now I understand why he is using them, and why ziplocs and steamer bags are the best fit for me now... ;) :green_heart:

The C99s look great, and having the middle so open means you can supercrop in toward the center without blocking any real lower growth. Major space saver I'm doing with my Carnival now.

I'd say a gallon will get you runoff in a 5g pot. I think that's what I gave my Candida last year. It's the only 5g plant I've grown.

I got the turkey bag burping method from @Derbybud and it saves a lot of time with bigger harvests. I find I can fit about 3 jars-worth in one medium bag. They still go in jars for the cure though as the bags are actually porous to changes in humidity over time.

Thanks for stopping by Shed! I’m a week into flip as of today. Do you think supercropping the tallest tops into the center is something I should do soon or wait until they are officially flowering? I have made sure to get them off the ground (both inside and outside). The two 99s in the tent took just over a gallon each with no runoff.... I know they were dry because they were super light, wilty, and I put my fingers in the holes on the bottom and they were dry. They seemed pretty content afterwards so fingers crossed. I’m not a fan of the 5 gallon pots and will definitely use smaller ones on my next grow. I don’t need a shit ton of weed so I’m happy to sacrifice a little extra harvest and be able to hopefully control the watering better. I’m still using Dyna Grow and have been giving them the full amount of Foilage (outside) and half the recommended amount of Bloom (Couldn’t help but think of Orlando Bloom just now ;)) for this first bloom feeding inside. I’m wondering if I can push those limits like everyone has been with the MC? I have never had any issues (that I am aware of) with the Dyna Grow, but I’ve never pushed to dosage either, so... From what I’ve seen in journals/comments, I believe @Pennywise uses Dyna Grow products, so perhaps he could chime in? I have a big bag of MC but my needs are so small I struggle with getting the right ”dosage”. The website says 1tsp = 6 grams which is easy but my kitchen scale‘s grams measurement jumps by two, so I guess I need to get a more sensitive scale If I want to be able to use it accurately. Anyhow - have a great weekend and thanks again! :Namaste:

The the size of your pot should really be determined by how long you're going to veg. Longer veg requires a bigger pot, so you could grow in 3g pots with small plants, but they need room for the roots as they grow.

Growing in too small a pot will make your plants root bound which makes it difficult for them to take up nutrients, leading to deficiencies that you'll be chasing the rest of the grow. Learning when to water is a lot easier than watching plants suffer!

Pushing any nutrient will hurt more than help. Feed the plants according to how they look is a good rule. I don't push my MC and I do okay!

This ^. And if you mix more than one gallon at a time you will be able to use more and it makes scales more accurate. You can store the mixed nutes for next time. I have a few gallons in plastic milk jugs almost all the time.

Looking good over here!

My watering tech in flower is very simple. I know that the pot will take approximately 1/7 of its volume in water to soak it, so a 7gal that is dry enough to water will get about 1gal h20/fertigation.

I pour half in the bottom tray to wick-up and half down the top, about 1/4-1/2 a gal at a time. A little bit slowly at first to get an even-ish hydration then once the first wick-up and soak is goodI can usually add the rest pretty quickly. That’s it.

If my veg plants are in a bigger pot and too big to lift, I use the same top-down-bottom-up method but with a bit more water because I let them dry out more in veg.

In early veg in small pots I use a dunking technique that I will send you a link to in PM :) (non-sponsor product page).

The top-down-bottom-up method is super easy!

And one last pic of the GRAV with the screen in it. Doesn’t it look so happy? :cheesygrinsmiley:
It really does! Lovely piece :D I found the one I was looks for too!

Thanks for the info Shed. The 99s are in 5 gal pots so that was a lucky newbie call by me. My plan in the immediate future is to grow only autos so a3 gallon pot should suffice, no? I’m learning the watering thing slowly but surely.

You are right about the nutes and I need to focus on your words! The scale, along with other things will be here tomorrow and I will mix up some large batches of MC.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by Shed - it means a lot to me. :green_heart:

Thanks for stopping by Amy! That is a very interesting watering method. I’ve been having a few issues with wet feet so I’ve got all four plants elevated on stone slabs to help with airflow. I will definitely try that method with my next grow. I’ve got a Zkittles seedling and a Bruce Banner that just won’t raise it’s helmet head above the soil. I think I may need to drop another seed....:(

Did you get that beautiful blue piece? Have a great day and thanks again for stopping by!:green_heart:

Awww NOICE! You are going to love it!

No, it isn’t completely under the entire pot. We have a lot of soapstone pieces laying around our place so each bucket has three, small 2”x4” pieces at the outer edges. There is maybe 1 square inch total under the pots. Soapstone will radiate heat or cold but I don’t think there is enough there to be an issue. So far there hasn’t been, that I am aware of. I think I am officially in flower! Posting pics next!

Hi. Hope all are well. Had a bit of a shitty weekend since in-laws decided to show up on Friday and stay until Monday. It’s taken me a full day to get out of the funk. The kids and I had a very nice Father’s Day weekend planned for their dad which included beer, bourbon, cigars, steak and maybe a little shooting (not in that order, lol) and his sister (who he never says no to) and her narcissistic husband decided they needed a place to stay this weekend on their trip hiking. Since quarantine started in March, we have seen our children together here at our place one time - Mother’s Day. So we catered to those fuckers all weekend and had to cancel reservations, etc so we could listen to them talk endlessly about themselves, and the work they are doing for God. The kids left on Sunday. I was so bummed.

ANYWAY - I believe the 99s in the tent are beginning to flower, it’s been 10 days:

One of the two grew so tall that it is almost touching the light - and was a little unhappy about it when I unzipped the tent this morning. I managed to gain about two inches on the light by taking the pulleys off and hanging directly from the top tent poles, but decided to go ahead and supercrop since I’d likely need to do it tomorrow anyway. During the stretch, both plants pulled themselves off the poles that were securing the previous supercropping so I had a little dilemma since they wouldn’t re-attach. I decided to just go ahead and do it.

Here is a pic of the two after the supercrop. I will post another when they rotate upwards.

Finally, that silly little PE auto that I put back outside after harvest now has flowers entirely around the stem. The stem is about 15” tall. I’m wondering if I should cut it back?

That’s all for now. Hope everyone is well and, well, medicated. :smokin2:

Sorry about the bad houseguests Boo - that sounds fully crappy. You’ll have to book a re-do weekend soon!

Plants look wild. Next time you could supercrop earlier and the ‘stretch’ you’ve just seen will happen to all the side shoots that become new tops. You’re still going to see some of that now of course - stretch should continue a while yet!

Thanks Amy. unfortunately getting them both here at the same time any time soon won’t happen. The boy is in EMT/Firefighter academy 2 1/2 hours away and doesn’t have many opportunities to travel until he (hopefully) graduates in September. Our girl is 1 1/2 hours away and her and her husband‘s calendars are full for the next month at least.....ugh. The really messed up part is that they DIDNT EVEN GO HIKING! Sorry for whining.

Actually, I did supercrop them on 30 May. The two in the tent were bent completely in half. I waited for almost two weeks before flipping to let the side shoots get positioned as new tops. Post 47 shows them in the tent after that first supercrop (they had been in veg for more than 100 days so they were very tall and lanky). They really took off when I flipped the lights and after 10 days some stems were about 3 inches from the light - hence the second supercrop. Didn’t want to, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. It’s been about 3 hours since I did it and when I went to zip up the tent they appeared to already be turning up towards the light. I foresee more supercropping in the future, but for now I’m back at the canopy level I started with 10 days ago.

Thanks again for your help - I really appreciate it!
