Bluter's Happy Home For Hilarious Hempsters

hi 420 ... here's your happy morning hempys .. :)

all cozy and unsuspecting ....

then ... yikes ! ... :cheesygrinsmiley:

everyone got a lopping and a strap. after a bit of reading up on ubt and quadding (again) i decided to go with hiw (tic tac toe) grid training, keeping three nodes, since the plants were well along.

the idea is to train everyone out to the sides of the pot and then let them run straight up. once the branches reach the sides, i have to build a cage, to keep the grid, and provide support in flower. i have piles of bamboo stick and gardening wire i can use.

i'm not training the lowers as flat as the top node, i want them to catch up to the top node. i'm hoping everyone is at the sides of the bucket by then. that will be the lollipop point and hopefully flip. since i have oval buckets, it won't be as uniform. perfect for tic tac toe / hiw grid. ;)

starting like a quad on the lowers ..

who gets X ? lol .. :Rasta:
top nodes to be tied as they develop. not everyone's on the same tracks .. have a cbdream leaner i might just let go after this intervention ..

really shoulda just went with it and tied it with the natural lst. the buckets are notoriously hard to keep upright in flower though. another reason for the grid. that one's going it's own way no matter. i might think about a re-pot even.

set for all the fun and bondage.
weird how @Virgin Ground doesn't traipse around so much here bondage and all... :cheesygrinsmiley:

It's kinda crazy actually.
I'm trying to keep up now. I was only a page or so behind.

lol yes you are. just teasing.

Tic-tac-toe?

hiw / tic tac toe. tic tac toe is grid training. .. simple essentially quad .. sorta.

I was once beaten 10 times in a row by a chicken. Lousy chicken gave me an inferiority complex.

my cousin taught me how to ring their necks if need be ... farm stuff. we got 'em back for you .. :cheesygrinsmiley:

My grandpa would tuck their head under their wing to render them unconscious and the either break their necks or decapitate them.
I'm better at the cooking than the killing. I have a more gentle nature.

i was like 8 or 9. bastards used to terrorize me. liked to feed them no matter lol... :p

my cousin taught me how to grab, snap them quick, and spin them if you needed. you always had to spin geese. not chickens so much. chickens got thick necks but it works. we always got a bunch of hunted geese every year we had to finish.

any way we got in shit and ate chicken for a few days. :cheesygrinsmiley:

hi 420, here's the morning hempys ...

fed everyone, adjusted a bunch of ties, and started cuffing a few more branches up. :)
the branches aren't that thick right now, and the aim is to get them to the sides of the pot before letting them run.

doing these on the smaller side. 2 1/2 - 3 ft from the pot rim about where i wound up last time.
building cages out of bamboo and garden wire. want to get them in within a 1 - 2 wks. maybe a touch earlier.

cages will run 24 inches total, about an inch shy of a foot and a half above the top of the pots. sticks just get pushed in to the bottom of the pots.

might be fun fitting them in the veg room with the cages in. if they don't work i'll shave the cages 4 - 6 inches and work with it. :cheesygrinsmiley:

for now i'm just using gentle (ha!) persuasion. and a fair bit of fiddling with the branches. that part also gets easier with some cages.

everyone all good and leveled off.. :)

the current top of the canopy is about where the first rung of the cage gets put. i use it to help train the top branches while the other nodes catch up to that height. i'll keep using the ties until then.

that's also the minimum lollipop point. i'll be lollipopping probably a couple inches above that though. for reference the bottom of the wood supports on the side walls, marks the 24 inch mark from the light.

speaking of light, i'm running the veg rig at 80% right now. will be at 90% by next feed. i'll leave it there for the duration. would have it there now, but i'm encouraging a little stretch right now. they get enough that they show the droop so they have more than enough light.

backed off just a tinge on the mc. actual measure is 6g / 5.5L RO. holding steady.

The girls are looking good bluter. Hempy looks awesome. Stay stoneder

thanks fred. the training is a fair bit of work.

i haven't used cages for the most part in hempy during training, as the ones i've had / seen were all bigger than my target plant. i'm rigging a home built idea up to see if i can make it work. when i decided to go with more nodes and grid / tic tac toe, a cage of sorts just made sense. stay tuned ..

:ciao: bluter!

Did I see that those are 2L pots? Very impressive. Might have to try hempy one day, although perhaps with coco instead of perlite. Is that a thing?

I love the tic-tac-toe training grid as well!

hiya syenite .. thanks for dropping by.

there are a few folk who have run coco hempy style before. it does seem seem to work a touch better in perlite. i'd use the coco if i had it lying around though.

i wouldn't buy coco just for it. perlite is pennies a grow by comparison. i get 110 ltr bales of the stuff for about $30 cdn. it's quite a few grows worth at 2L a pop for container size :cheesygrinsmiley:

hello grow folk ... here's the morning hempys

everyone is a nice mc green :)

the plants have actually been recovering from the start of a two or three stage defol. i started building cages around three plants, which did nothing but damage and disaster, pulled the cages apart and went for a more standard approach tying them instead.

my little 2L buckets just wont support the type of training i was hoping for. i could probably pull it off in my 5L buckets. i'm debating adding a double wire cage above the canopy in kind of a scrog style, it would be individual to each bucket.

for the moment though, i'm happy with the flattened canopy. haven't had to adjust for light height for about three weeks now. they're gonna make the final turn soon though and run for the light. just a few days now.

i'm having to adjust ties nearly daily now. will probably have to stick with quad type or a ubt training in the 2L buckets for subsequent grows. simply don't have room for other approaches.

moving ahead with a deeper defol today. slowly gonna pull the larger fans out and expose the branching. eventually everything under the current canopy line will be lollipopped.

Looking good Bluter!

thanks.

i'm super pissed at myself for trying to impose the cages. lost a couple branch ends trying to get them in. have never tried it on the hempys, it just won't fly the same as my old soil grows lol .. :p

the 2L hempy is almost a bonsai style to begin if you train.

i did over grow the 420 sticker lol

forgot to move it for the pics
