Black African Magic

Sorry to see you had a male, unless you wanted to collect pollen for future projects.

Overall you plants look happy and healthy :welldone:

Keep up the good work.

Stay safe, and grow well my friend,
Tok..
hello 👋

i definitely did not want a male. however, that seed was a purple diesel bag seed, my first three germinations were all bag seeds, one of the three (og kush) survived. i learned a lot getting that plant this far. i removed it from the tent and am going to attempt to keep it going to pollination, save the pollen, make a purple diesel hybrid in the future.

really excited for what is to come with BAM 1 & 2, OG Kush.

Plants are growing and developing.

One of the things I was told with Black African Magic is it needed 40-60% humidity and a 10 degree difference between day and night…so these things I took serious. I have pretty much 40% - 78 degrees during day and 50% - 68 degrees during the night.

The picture below is OG Kush on the left over lapping BAM on the right. I was told that the color change will start slowly around week two, which is where I am at. You can see OG is light and bright, BAM is turn dark green nearing brown.

Flowers seem to be growing fast…but not fast enough 🤨😂

decided today that I am going to keep my original 2x2x4 tent and use it as a germination tent and vegetation tent. Then once plants hit a point where they are ready to flower i will go to the big tent.

so always have a smaller 18/6 setup and a larger 12/12 setup. we shall see what is to come 😎

anyways, here are some wee baby flowers.

I do the same. My veg space is shorter, has a seedling heat mat, room for clones/seedlings, a pre-veg area, and one for full on veg.

Allows me to prep the next round while the last one is flowering.

Totally, that is exactly what I am going to do. I figure roughly every 12 weeks I can move 1-2 plants into the large flower tent.

Have you ever grown Zkittles before? Very curious as I am about to grow Zkittles. It says the main cola is the size of an american football and the plant will not exceed 100 cm. Curious if this plant should not be topped then?

G 🤙🏻

I have not.

My perpetual is a harvest/promotion every 6 weeks with two plants in flower at any one time. I used to do three at a time on a 4 week cycle but since switching to SIPs three plants end up too big for the space.

It takes a little but of playing around but I try to keep the flower box full at all times, so if a plant finishes up and vacated a spot early, I'll promote one that could have vegged more, because one extra cycle can more than make of for a slightly smaller plant than might have been ideal.

As I am learning I am piecing together this:

A grow tent can only produce as much as what fills the square foot. So rather than think of “x amount of plants to produce x amount of buds”, the mindset needs to be, “how many plants fill this space”. Whether it is 1 plant or 4 plants, the end result will be whatever the max yield per square foot of the grow tent is.

Sound correct?

With that being said:

It would be better to grow 1 or 2 plants and let them really stretch out and fill the tent. If 1 plant will fill it, it will produce the same as 4 smaller plants filling the same space.

Sound correct?

🤙🏻🤙🏻

Well, conceptually, yes. BUT, how long does it take to fill a given space? 1 plant in a 5 gallon SIP can fill a 5x5 text given enough veg time, say 7-8 weeks. But 3-4 plants can fill it with say a 4-5 week veg which means you can get more cycles in an indoor setup in a year with smaller plants.
That's the theory with SOG (Sea of Green) which is growing I seedling per every say 6 sq" and go 12/12 from seed. No veg. All you get is one main cola but more cycles per year and that maxes out your space.

So, it's about compromises, and whether you grow from seed or clone, what your watering setup is, etc.

But that's why I like having two spaces, one for veg and the other for flower, so that way I can minimize the down time in the flower space.

Woke up this am to see the ladies decided to get sparkly.

What is also fascinating to see is the different color between plants and how the BAM plants are turning darker and darker green.

I have no clue what kind of time line I am on or how big these will get. I am much slower then was told on these three, nonetheless, they seem to be thriving.

Should I pull off any of the big fan leaves down low? bottom of plants are pretty much stripped. Mid plant and up are bushy and healthy, all producing buds. However, it is thick foliage.

Speaking of the plants growing slow. I am going to grow one more in the exact same basic method. Simply to test what have I learned? If I implement what I learned for this method I should be able to prove what I learned by a fast strong yield. This guy below was a seed 144 hrs ago.

I have read about SOG, sounds wild.

There is something about being hands on, seed, veg, watching the plant, deciding when to go 12/12 that is incredibly zen like. I definitely think what you describe lines up with me personally. Being sick sucks, but the peace that comes from nurturing that plant is therapeutic in itself.

I think i am going to aim for 2 plants in the exact same method, this time let them really get strong in veg, then get 2 plants to fill the tent. Just to test my skills.

It's probably more about air flow to keep mold at bay later on, but that's mostly done at flip+21 days.

when you say “that’s mostly done at flip+21”, you mean pulling the larger fan leaves?

I am right around 3 weeks now of flower.

Thanks again 🤙🏻

Mostly clean up anything low that didn't reach the canopy otherwise they end up being really small buds (larf) and use energy that could have gone to better effort into the main buds.

Then also making sure there is enough air flow through the canopy to keep away mold. The plant won't grow much more in terms of replacement leaves after flip+21 and whatever leaves you do have are nutrient reserves for the plant so don't take too much. It's all a balance of competing challenges.

@Azimuth @Bill284 question: i have been reading about LST, I see multiple people using coated wires to hold their plants in place.

What are these called? Or are people just using coated electrical wire?

Thanks 🤙🏻
If you go to the dollar store they have a variety.
Rolls and rolls of it.
Plain wire like twist ties and a couple different thicknesses of coated wire.
Even string will work though if you can't get it.
How are things going today my friend?

Here's an example...

And here's what Carcass uses for his Carhooks:
"The stuff I use is solid core 2 conductor 20ga. thermostat wire- it's two strand wire, so I get 2 feet of wire from each foot of cable...a lot of t-stat wire is 18ga., and that would work too...each hook takes 3.5-4" of wire."

Thank you much 👍🏻

Coming off a tough 3 weeks. Dr’s still have no real bead on whats going on, apparently all the blood test did not find anything of substance. Today, however, I am feeling better then I have in a fee months which is awesome 🙏
