Birdie's Return To Life

Ok, went to check.
Weird thing,
Leaves have no membrane closing them, but they both have membrane on them...
So, I decided to do some surgery to either get some off or open the leaves.
Since it was spray soil day soil was dry.
I noticed a little tip of something poping up on the side close to sprout.
Gently gently with a stick, I moved the soil..
It was the tap root! Pointing up:eek:

So, I did a little digging wetted the soil from underneath and gently planted her a little bit further down.
Now it is wait and see.

Good find! Every now and then I get one of those confused taps too. Fingers crossed.

Highya FreeBird,

I've never heard of such a thing. I use the paper towel method, and plants when evidence of a taproot comes out (but not much). Then plant tap down, and always works. Never had a taproot growing the wrong way. Hope she's strong as you are! Cheers

I love seed surgery...not! :bravo:

She’s going to pop out and be a monster...you just wait and see. :cheer:

Well, this was first for me as well :)
I figured. It happened since soil got dry and I only spray her on top?!
So, I placed some water on a platter and let her sit and soak for a while. Came back and no water on the plate.
This, I hope, will get the taproot to search downwards for water... :hmmmm:

I read somewhere recently that when placing the seed and taproot in the soil, the taproot should be up and that this forces the seed to orient itself as it figures out which way is up, helping to loosen the helmet. This makes logical sense and I am going to start trying this counter intuitive way of planting my seeds from now on... or at least until I get one of those weird, roots wrapping in a circle above ground, sort of situations... I never want to see that again!!

I too prefer seeing my seedlings without the tap root growing outside on top.
:)
Now I will wait and see.
And watering the OG from now on, only with water on a platter. ;)

Yeah well, I was born with feet first.. So that kept me being backwards all my life.. Ooo forgot, I am lefthanded as well :)
I'm a Leftie as well. When I was in school they forced me to write with my right hand so I had the handwriting of someone who's being electrocuted lol

No worries with the bean. Gravity will eventually win. I’ve had some crazy things happen over the years...sometimes it wasn’t even my fault. :reading420magazine:

I’m “rooting” for her!
Thank you GT :hugs:
That is what I was aiming for when I decided to water her from bellow.

Some time back Pennywise mentioned to bury seeds at 1/2 inch deep to keep the helmet heads from happening. I go another step and try to keep any large pieces of things like bark, chips, and pearlite away from the hole so the little one has a easy strait shot. The helmet part does seem to work, I do the rest out of caution. :)

My measurement was a pencil and making a hole as deep as the metal part where the rubber is.. In this case, it wasn't enough.
(I learned that from... Hm.... Was it Krip or Heirloom?!.)
