BigJayDiggler's Soil Headband Grow Journal 2020

I meant to post that last entry earlier. That was early afternoon.
A/C working 76° Humidity 45%
Zipped up tent for blackout.
Pic is just before lights out. They drooping a little more now. Lights at 30"
Tallest is at 23" it was put with the shorties and now is the tallest. The higher lights def made them grow plus nutes I imagine. Going to start this week at 30" see how it goes. I wonder what full strength will do, but don't want to risk it.
Night time has been 67° 45% humidity consistently. Also I learned that if you set a fan blowing on a plant the leaves will start to blow back like hair. LOL

Your plants are doin good. I’d suggest letting them dry out really good, and give them 3/4 recommended dosage nutrients. Water them really well until you get good run off. I bet they darken up and pray hard.

that is, up the dosage a little. See how they respond.

They will be pretty dry tomorrow afternoon I predict.
Is it best to feed morning or before bed?

If some feel dry in the morning, I'll water those. I may have to start numbering them and documenting waterings. 14 plants every other day has become cumbersome. Plus mixing each ingredient.

I zipped up my tent last night and turned off one fan, before lights out last night. Big mistake. The heat from even LED lights was still in there. Woke up. Everybody is droopy AF and temp at 82°
So lesson learned.
Also I don't think 1 6" exhaust fan and 1 4" intake fan is adequate. Probably could double that. These tents when closed up are pretty good about sealing off the outside.Going to feed again this afternoon, because pots still have weight. Damn it. Set back. Hope the girls bounce back today.

Got home today. Things looking better. Numbered my pots so I can water them appropriately. Temps 76° 43% humidity. Fed 4 plants this afternoon. The rest tomorrow morning.

Day 45
Flower day 11
The pots are pretty steady at 3 days water and nutes (1/2) feeding. I really have a handle now, on overwatering. Lol!
A/C in the room central air is nice 65° in the basement outside tent.
74% 40% humidity inside
I pruned away shade leaves and suckers. Lights 24-30"

Lookin good in here Jay.

if I were you I’d go through and pick out all of the nodes below the top one.

there’s a great video by Kyle kushman about it. It’s 30 minutes long, but you should really watch the whole thing. You will learn how to shape your plants before you flower

Thanks man. Will watch today.

I watched it and it's all done. That's a pretty good video. I even did the chiropractor thing. Lol. I accidentally snapped a branch off at the base. I taped it back. Hopefully it heals.

I did the same thing the first time I saw it too. Just gotta go more slowly next time.

did you pay attention to the bit about cleaning up the nodes cause the plant will put out 8-10 more during stretch? That was the important message from the video.

I left some of the sun leaves and cut out the nodes, but I also cut off some shade leaves. I'm over a week and a half into flower, so I feel like I should stop and let em go. Learn lessons and move on next grow. I been reading the horror stories of people having their plants hermi 8-9 weeks into flower.

You won’t hermie your plants from removing leaves or shoots, especially not in the second week of flower.in my experience the only detriment that you can cause by defoliating is stressing your plants into finishing without bulking up. Two cycles ago I defoliated a couple of my plants at week 6, they stopped bulking and just started to ripen.

but with your plants, you’re still fine to remove what you want to remove. They haven’t begun setting their buds so you won’t lose any potential yield.

Gotcha. I will try to be more delicate. Did you take it back too? Did it survive? Thanks for the info.

Nah, the branch I did broke completely off lol.

I did just have an accident happen in the flower tent, split one of my plants Down the middle where I topped her. I had to make a splint to keep the branch attached, but its still growing and looks like it’ll make a full recovery.

The split picture looks less severe than it is. The split goes down another inch from what you see.

Thanks for sharing the pics. I'm confident I did the right thing now.
The next thing is determining sex. Can't determine it yet.

The very first and most important thing about sexing a cannabis plant is to remember that you’ve got plenty of time. From when the first sacs show, to when they grow bigger and fully mature. Then when they finally open. You’ve got like 3-4 weeks. So don’t get rid of plants that aren’t 100% male. I see it all the time, and I used to do it myself(I grow pretty much clone/fem seed only now). People getting rid of plants that didn’t really show much one way or the other.

like @carcass thought he had a male so he turned it into a house plant. Only to have it start flowering and turn out female a month later or so.

So don’t jump the gun on suspected males! You’ve got tons and tons of time to get rid of them!

And the only reason it dodged the greenwaste is because MrsC. said
it looked too "pretty" to be a boy, so I should wait a little longer before I trash it....
So, yeah- until you either see actual balls, or pistils, you're just guessing, and it's pretty easy to guess wrong ;)
