BeezLuiz & LiquidIntel Outdoor Grow 2019: White Widow, Northern Lights & CBD Lemon Potion

Dang, that reminds me that I have some chopped up roots still in the shed drying - they must be really dry by now. Gotta get them decarbed today.

:nomo: Having my morning cup and catching up on everything at the moment, but while I'm here, a quick update on the Lemon Potion we harvested last Wednesday. Yesterday morning (day 6 of dry) I checked the drying basket and the buds seemed close, but not quite ready. However, I checked again in the early evening and they were past ready! @Liquidintel and I gave the buds a final manicure and jarred them. 30 minutes after jarring I checked the humidity and it was 44% - pretty low, I know! I threw a couple Boveda packets in for sure. This morning the humidity is up to 51% so its moving in the right direction.

The first harvest on the season is kinda like the first pancake - doesn't always turn out the best. We did smoke a pre-cure sample because... well you know why. :drool:It was surprisingly smooth, and it was a nice mellow high - I was set the rest of the night. I'm looking forward to a real smoke session after a few weeks of cure. Will weigh everything once the humidity is where it should be.

Today's update showcases the Lab Rats. In case you've forgotten, the reason I call these lab rats is because they were planted with the intention to try some things we haven't done before. They were our first attempt to germinate from seed (successful evidently), one was topped once and the other was topped twice, they were left in 3 gallon pots to keep them small and manageable, and they were placed outdoors on the first day of spring (roughly 12/12) after being under 18/6 lighting - they promptly went into flower. As the daylight hours increased, they then went into reveg in June. I began doing the daily move into and out of the shed to simulate 12/12 light schedule and they are now back into flower! :yahoo:

So here's where we are today.
Sour Diesel:

This Sour D came from a single seed that was found on last year's grow. I'm assuming it's a freak/hermie seed from the plant since it was the only one - so 100% Sour Diesel. We weren't originally planning to grow it out completely, but it has turned into a very nice looking plant. I'm thinking maybe in a couple weeks it could be ready to harvest. The parent plant took 95 days of flower to ripen. Today is Day 95 for this one, but it did go into reveg for a couple weeks.

Bagseed (Trainwreck?):

This plant is from some bagseed that my son got from a friend. Based on some info from the friend, we think it's probably Trainwreck - but not certain. This is the remaining plant from 5 seeds. 3 turned "male" and were tossed, the other was given away to a friend - still alive as far as I know. Like the Sour D, this plant has impressed me to the point where I am excited to harvest it - especially since I've never tried Trainwreck but have heard good things about it.

Question: @Agemon had suggested recently that I try "bud back building" to fatten up the buds on my plants. Seems kinda scary to me, but since this plant it officially a "lab rat", I might try it on this one. Am I too late to try or is there still some time? :nerd-with-glasses:

We'll finish up with some critter related pics. The spider I saw this morning was on the Trainwreck plant just hangin' out. The hole in the leaf was from a small grasshopper (or some sort of leaf hopper) that was chewing on the leaf from the center of the leaf. I "removed" the critter before thinking about taking a pic.
Have a great day/evening everyone!!

Excellent results on the experiments, so well done! Bulky and frosty and damn good looking to boot :).

44% - pretty low
According to Mr. Krip, curing stops below 55% when the bacteria that support curing die, so while raising the RH of the buds will make them less harsh when burned, they will no longer go through the curing process. References here and here.
"bud back building" to fatten up the buds on my plants.
From everything I've read on back building, it will change the shape of your buds to give them more bag appeal, but will not increase the yield from your plants. Squatter and wider vs taller and narrower, the weight should be the same in the end. Even Light Addict said: "I am not claiming it gives better weight just better looking end product, that is nice and dense"

His original tutorial is here:

Thanks for the links, Shed. Yeah I kinda knew about the RH threshold, but just got caught sleeping at the wheel.

Hell Yeah Beez!!!!! Those pics are great! I remember a plant I called 'Super Girl' she was amazing. Had that same structure as your Sour D & FrostyAF!

The colas weren't hand size though... Nice Growing!

:thumb::yummy:

One thing I forgot to mention regarding the Lab Rat plants - I stopped moving them into and out of the shed each night for the 12/12. Since the summer solstice has now passed and my photo period plants are now naturally beginning to flower, I figure these plants can now stay outside full time without the risk of going back into veg mode.

Update on CBD Lemon Potion #1. The humidity in the jar is now at 61% (+/-) so I decided to weigh the contents. To my pleasant surprise, the buds came in at 29 grams (1.02 oz) and the trim, which I feel is pretty good quality and includes many broken pieces of bud, came in at 18 grams (0.63 oz). :yahoo: I did not expect to get that much out of such a small plant.

It's been awhile since I've updated on the photo period plants. They're both growing nice and steady. I added stakes to spread out the branches to allow more light and air circulation in the center, and now they are beginning to fill out.
Northern Lights

The first sign of pistils showed 3 days ago. I'm counting this as flowering day 3 even though it would probably be considered by many as "preflower".

White Widow

Flowering is fully under way now at 13 days since sign of pistils.

The rest of the garden is doing well and possibly we will be harvesting Sour Diesel sometime next week or next weekend.

The NL is nice but the WW is a beast!

I'd consider that as showing sex. I don't count pistils until they're coming from inside the new growth at the tops.

However, Van Stank has successfully pollinated those side pistils and gotten seeds from the plant without having to worry about pollinating the whole plant, since there are no other pistils yet to pollinate.

Tib-Bits!

I often contemplate the best way to identify when flowering starts and haven't quite settled on it. I agree with your point, but it's easier for me to say "there's the first pistils on the plant" and assume flowering will begin 10 days later. I guess I'll have to give it more thought. :nerd-with-glasses:
