Beauty vs. Brawn - A Multi Strain Multi Sponsor Grow Off For Bragging Rights

Week 3 Update

Screenshot (1181) copy.png

Greetings.
I have spent my last few auto grows battling soil, light and watering issues. This grow I am attempting to apply new knowledge learnt from @Gee64 in his Gee Spot, organics thread, and dial the grow in. So far so good. The greatest lesson I have learnt so far in this grow is how to prepare a fabric los pot with sufficient moisture for the first three weeks of growth. I mentioned this earlier in this thread. Gee advised us to uniformly moisten the soil to the point at which you can squeeze moisture from it without it dripping. This has worked perfectly for my plants this run. Thank you Gee!

I am also learning about light as I go and making PPFD adjustments to maintain optimal DLI.

Thanks for looking and have an awesome day.

I like that Rita has a watcher, the spider. I don't mind them on my plants cuz they eat critters we don't want.
As long as they aren't spider mites, and they don't roll up my leaves for their hatching....I'm good with them. ;-)

DAY 25 MILKY WAY F1 AUTO.

Happy Tuesday everyone :ciao: .

I'm going to be brief on the update today as I should have more to report on later this week.

Milky Way is still growing steady daily and is doing great. Her height is 11" ( 1" taller) and her diameter is 13" ( 2" wider), so we have daily positive growth👍.

Additionally we have entered the flower stage 🥳. I'm excited for the next steps but I did wait to long on the secondary topping so she will rock out how she is from this point on. The training I'll be doing later this week should help add more bud zones.

Temperature steady at 80°f / 26.6°c with humidity fluctuating between 50-60%.

No water, no nutrients, no pests or problems 😁👍

Other than that I'll catch ya on the next update. Have a kick ass week everyone :headbanger:

Man I love the shape of those ladies!
Great job on the training!
I’ve got some disturbed soil on the surface so, I should have an update real soon.
Until then, you fellas are doing a great job holding the line!

Well, due to yet another major power outage from storms during a grow, these girls are stretching for light. All they have is some window light and it's been dark and dreary. I don't want to take them outside, that will bring bugs in.
Hoping like hell I get power back today.
If not, I'm going to be forced to get them out in some decent light tomorrow.

I'm sorry lady C that is a super fert situation 🫤 but at least your safe 👍. Have they provided a p.s.a about expected power on? When it's happened here it's posted on providers web site.

But the plants will be ok..... Your a plant whisperer 😅.

They give estimates on restoration times, but it keeps getting pushed back. It's a pretty devastated county, and my road has all kinds of damage with trees, poles, vehicles crushed, you name it.

I will whisper to the kids.....lol

Update!
A new challenger has entered the ring!
I’m proud to introduce you all to the long awaited and, at least from my viewpoint, highly anticipated, Black Betty and her sister Joan!
Betty, named obviously from the song made famous by Ram Jam (and covered superbly by Spiderbait)
Joan, named after the founder of black heart records, and the rock and roll legend that defined my idea of the perfect woman…. Joan Jett (thank you for helping me through puberty)

I feel your pain! I hope it comes back soon. Is this from recent bad weather? Scary ass stuff eh?

Woohoo! Welcome to the grow :)

DLI

I have observed that the two plants directly under the lights seem to swoon and droop about an hour before lights out. The ppfd is a little high according to my DLI charts and I think I will turn the lights out an hour earlier, giving them a 17 / 7 cycle at 620 ppfd. I imagine that the swoon occurs because they have maxed out their DLI. What do you think?

Note that the Red Mimosa is not under direct light. As such, the ppfd for that plant is lower but still within range of the DLI calculations.

Water

I have not had to water the plants yet. I have literally just wet the surface with two small top waterings, and I mist the surface twice a day. The Gee64 method really works for me and as such I'd like to promote it far and wide. I prefer it 100 % to the Emilia method. In fact the Emilia method will come into play when I actively begin watering to run off, but until then, I have no need to concern myself with the drastic shifts in wet / dry cycle. The Gee64-ol-lady squeeze test is a winner! To reiterate, keep your soil moist to the point of a wet squeeze with a single drip. This keeps the micro herd active even in fallow soil, and ensures good tilth etc for transplanting seedlings.

Happy Thursday!

Here's a song for y'all
:rip:
