Bassman's 6th - RDWC - Hi-Defoliation Martian & Master Kush

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

I'm not flowering yet, so no bud weight to weight them down. I bend fairly low. Mostly I bend at the spot that I think will benefit the plant most, ie bring the meristem below the most nodes. It works great if I tie them down with wire, but I can't keep up this method with 23 plants.

hehehe I used to bend too without knowing the proper name for it. Apparently I used to SCROG as well without knowing there was a name for it.

Super cropping in my context isnt the same as LST and tying them down. I'm doing this to shorten height and add some lateral spread. Numerous of my branches will have multiple knuckles from have been bent a few times. It's the twist with the bend that helps hold it in place.

Bending to go lateral can be done in veg or flower. But late in flower it becomes harder for them to knuckle up.

I've tried it with a twist and without. All this terminology is kinda funny to me. What is called "supercropping" here was just bending back when I grew before. I thought it meant topping at first. "LST" is just what we described as "tieing down the plants". I can't recall any special term for defoliation, although we never used that word. I think we just talked about removing sucker leaves.

I was never a big bender. I started out tieing them down mostly, but then went to a SCROG (another technique I practived without knowing the terminology) because it made it easier to keep more plants shorter. I have bent plenty of stems though. I guess bending stems aint like riding a bike!

I'm bending the plants to make them wider, ie the lateral growth you mentioned. I hope to not have to do ANY manipulation after the stretch, and very little after flipping to 12/12. I have had good results so far tieing them down, but I can't keep up anymore. That's why I switched to bending. I can just reach in and bend the stem without having to pull the plant out and mess with the wires and such.

I'll keep trying. Maybe I should post a pic of one of the stems. Some of the bends/breaks are weird. The stem has split a little lengthwise, so if you twist or bend the stem just right, you can look through it! The top is still healthy and growing though. Can't say I recall ever seeing that before.

Thanks again for sharing your tips.

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

Meh, cracks through stems happen sometimes. A good twist before bending can help prevent this. But don't worry, that cracked girl will heal up and be impossible to bend there again.

i think northener has a good point bass, i think that would w2ork. dont worry about raising the roots, all it would do is encourage roots to grow bigger. that isnt a bad thing. u have mature plants, i think they'd respond with no issues at all.

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

Had to mix 2 more gallons of nutrient today. Unreal how much they are gobbling up. Normally with just the Master Kush in there it's add 2-2.5 gals of 0 ppm water one day, then the next day I mix a 1 gal mix of nutrient and 1.5 gals of 0 ppm water. So it seems the Martian Kush are real big on eating lots of nutrient.

The Mast Kush appear to have basically come to a halt in stretching. Tomorrow is day 23 in 12/12, I'll defoliate them all tomorrow, Sunday or Monday. Once I do this next strip, they'll all get rotated around in their buckets for best light, more bending, and then support string back and forth through the tent. Once the 1st level of string goes in the wont get turned anymore, so I'll have to pay attention and predict where the buds will be thickest and spread them out so light gets through accordingly.

The next week is exciting. It really lays out the rest of the grows' success.

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

Thanks for supporting my idea cult. I've only had a few plants in Dwc ever, and never done a rdwc, so my idea was completely theoretical.

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

Hi there again bassman! I wanted to say thanks again for dropping by my thread the other day and educating me on maximizing lighting and plant height. The lighting chart u posted for me was a huge help. Since then I've read just about everything I could find on the defoliation technique and I gotta say I'm more than interested. My girlfriend is a little pist though since all I've done the past couple days is read and talk about this lol. Oh well, she'll get over it! Anyway, I have a question for you, I have 8-ladies of various strains that are finishing their 3rd week of flower (it'll be 21 days on Sunday). I've read that defoliating is predicated on training during vegge. So my question is would my girls benefit from defoilating this far along or would I do more harm than good? Should I just wait til the next crop to experiment? Thanks again for your help. I'm blown away by the wealth of FREE info and help available on this site. It is truly awesome! Wish I would've found it sooner, but you know what they say, better late than never!

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

Danner, It probably wont hurt you at all to defoliate. It should help for yield in fact. However, being as it's various strains, and you're a newer grower, I'd probably just let them grow as they may. Get the knowledge of the strains and your own growing strengths down first. Then move on the the more advanced techniques within.

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

Hey thanks for the tip bassman. I'm building a new flower room today that will hopefully be done by tomorrow and be able to move the girls in there tomorrow. I think what I'm going to do is even out the canopy by putting blocks underneath the pots with the shorter plants. Even though you said I should wait I think I'm still gonna take some of the fan leaves off just to open up the bottoms some, but not go full bore on defoliation. I feel like these plants are doing really well and I want to do everything possible to maximize this yield, but then again I could just be being stubborn lol. What are the downfalls if I do decide to do some defoliation? I know I'm new, this only being my 2nd grow, but like I said these plants are really healthy.

Re: Bassman's 6th, BPN, RDWC, Hi-Defoliation, Hi-Yield Martian & Master Kush grow.

Presuming they are healthy. Your feeding regimen is solid. No deficiencies, ph is good, RH is right, temps good. Everything is going nice and smooth. Then go for it. But before you do re-read the article I made on the subject a couple times at least. Note where and when to pluck in flower. Remember what you're trying to do. And above all, do them all or don't do any. no point in going half ass about it by shading defoliated girls from non defoliated.

I suggest not doing it as a newcomer because it's fairly likely a new grower will have less than optimal conditions. Leaves tell you fairly quickly, and w/o a strong supply of leaves you may miss the signs. That's why this is suggested for the grower that has his shit down fairly well. But it sounds like you're fine. And if you don't mind a screwup if you do have something off, well, go for it.

mini-update

Day 16 in flower, day 22 in 12/12

Major defoliation day V 1.1.2. I'll call this version 1.1 because the master kush are getting 1st strip at end of stretch, and .2 because Martian Kush are going to get hit again today.

Added another 2 gals of nutrient this morning. Still amazed about how much nutrient uptake there is.

Now I'm goin go to hit'em hard. Here's before pics from moments ago:

Overall look before they git naked:

Defoliation done.

They have certainly lost some weight. Did some more bending and rotating to reposition as well. I'll have to string up support a bit later, tired out!

Beautiful man and after seeing these set of pictures I'm pretty sure I did switch my master kush and Wonder Woman beans at the beginning.

The plants look great! I've been following closely but wanted to post to shoot some good kharma your way. :)
May your harvests be plentiful so that your cup may runneth over :)
