Barneys Farm Sponsors Grow: Gorilla Zkittles, Orange Sherbert Plus Many More

Phantom OG....

Here she is. The only thing I have to say about this one today is that she needs watering tomorrow lol. It's one of those "no news is good news" things. She's been a star though and I'm impressed by almost everything about her so far. I removed my carbon filter and she stunk out the entire house lol. It was a hot day and there was this heavy warm funk drifting on the wind lol....

Gorilla Zkittles....

This little beauty gets frostier by the day. Some of her lowers have gone red which which I hope will travel up the plant. I don't think it'll happen by chop day but if I can see it changing then I may give her a little longer for some extra bag appeal. I sampled a little bit earlier today. I was looking at her and removed a small branch that was under the canopy. It was just some fluff but I ground it up wet and dried it on the windowsill. It took half an hour or so to dry as it was a pretty hot day. As you can imagine it wasn't the best tasting but it certainly had a bit of flavour and it gave me an idea of the direction it is going in. The stone though is good. I had some pretty heavy eyes and certainly knew that I had been smoking. I'm looking forward to getting this one jarred up and rolling up a fatty at a BBQ lol....

Orange Sherbert....

Here's my baby! I'm in love with this one. She has my preferred growth pattern being short and densely packed. I'm looking forward to running the next 2 Seeds later on in the next 10 plant grow later on when I'll be looking to take a mother or 2 from the strains grown in this thread. I can't quIt's tell what colour she is as my eyes are terrible but it looks like there's some purple under those trichs. I'm pretty certain that this one will be coming down on Saturday or Sunday. I've grown attached to her and almost don't want to harvest her lol. That's a feeling I'm not familiar with concerning these plants. Normally I can't wait to be opening the tent for the last time but with this one it's different. That is of course until I get the Purple Punch and become completely infatuated with her lol....

POG for the win, but still Sherbert to place. Love all the sugar on those leaves! I never get that which is why I'm comfortable trimming close.

That sand soil mix is going to be interesting to watch...
I think I'll miss these 2.
Anytime you miss them go back and look at the trouble they gave you in early veg. You'll be happy to see the back of them. ;)
It suggests that you don't need to thin out plants as much as light doesn't need to penetrate plants fully in order to grow decent lower buds
I was actually asking Bo to explain his statement to that effect. I haven't heard back from him but I look forward to the explanation. In the meantime...penetration is key!
totally get the no stripping thing and when ypu look at most grows , the leaf still comes back to a point and i do wonder about forcing the. to regrow new leaf and spend all that flowering time sharing resources with a basic wnergy hungry vegging activity.
Lolipopping in veg does cause the plant to regrow all those leaves, but hopefully out at the ends of the branches where you can use them. Stripping the lowers before flip means that you are just getting growth hormones in the branches you are keeping, and thinning lower branches just after stretch means that only the buds you want to keep will get the sugar the plant is producing. The leaves on those lower branches may not get replaced in flower as they probably weren't getting light anyway, and hopefully the plant still has enough leaves on top to power the buds.

I lollipopped my three in flower so we'll see how they go.

Personally, I've observed less growth on lowers when plants are left unplucked. I'm open to new ideas and methods but I've been in the defoliation camp for some time and see it as almost essential for growing in small areas.
Big fan of the Os but the Pog is starting to really make me wish I had some seeds of it as well. Your going to get a huge haul of that girl prof
Lol. I may have to get some more POG's if this one turns out good. Out of the 3 I'd say that she's been the easiest to grow and maintain so far. If the OS grew taller than I'd say that she could have the best bud formation but the POG beats her in my opinion. Next time I'll try and grow the OS taller and not top and trim her as much, a bit like yours, which look fantastic by the way

Veg Tent Update....

Hey 420! And thanks @N420. We've got flash pics today as I only just made it to the tent before lights out. The veg tent has had some events worth documenting. Firstly I've topped them. I said I'd wait until they got there mojo back and I decided that they looked good enough to me. There was immediate change once they were transplanted into the new pots and less than 24 hours later new, healthy growth has appeared. The BG's are still a little droopy but they perk up in the middle of the day only to look a little tired come lights out. I've removed the lowest growth on all also just to keep them tidy. They all look better than they did I before the transplant so happy days. The next thing I'd like to talk about is the sand heavy mix. I may have already stumbled across the first problem. I decided to add a small amount of feed to bump up the nutrient levels because I forgot to do it when I flushed them so the pots just had Plain PH'd water run through them. When I added 1ltr of water to each pot there was a lot of run off. I didint know if any of the water stayed in the pot at all. The pots are still saturated with water from the flush so I'm hoping that it was just that they were already full rather than the pots not having enough water retention. I'm going to let them dry out considerably more before I try and feed them again. It's going to be interesting seeing how this one pans out. And lastly when I opened the tent earlier to check on them the first thing I saw when my eyes adjusted to the light was a thrip scuttle across a leaf on the SL2. The plants have been sprayed. I've also noticed some damage on the other plants but still can't find any actual thrips anywhere. They really are tough little things. I'd probably admire them if they weren't eating my sacred herb lol. Anyway that's all from the veg tent. Here we are today....

Happy looking little ladies Prof. By now i would have bit the bullet and gave em some old fashioned fly spray. no buds to infect and a light whisping to catch any flying away.
They do look good in their new pots fella.
Has the sand not made it more compacted ? maybe running a stake through the soil at angles carefully , prior to watering , would channel some to the interior instead of being pushed out to the edges and out ?. This for me is one of the reasons i dare not go to soil mixes. I think it is the hardest medium to actually get right. Emilya and friends are heroes of soil and seem to know so much about its make up ect.... maybe hit her up and see if she can be of any help ?.
I am buying 40lt of eco-thrive living soil to give it a go with 2 of the autos for my next fast buds run. Would love to go this route for long term with sprinklers if it is really "no-till" and just needs good H2o. No animal bones or bloods wither so vegan too !. lol . looks the bollocks for us brits who dont have farmshops to shop in but want to no till. It is £30 per 40ltr but never needs replacing and can recharge it with their teas or home made ones after grow. No nutes needed ever , can still add organic boosters in moderation but not really needed as the herd do the creation thing for you.Was thinking of your next up pot and , as it is for me too , trying to keep growing without denting family budgets too. covering costs by "sharing the load" has kept me above water just but this route could free up a whole stream of nute funding expense each run. Not to mention the taste, potency and yield matching abilities on top. Watch this space mate. will find out if it is any use on the next one. It is a British company and also resources and regenerates ethically and environmentally friendly. sounds bang on tbh. sorry for the waffle mate , just some thoughts for us family farmers.lol
Have a great day fella , hope your princesses are making demands again now and well enough for choc choc.

The Pog is a beauty mate. They grow brilliant and are some serious contenders for monster yield if you have the space/time ect. Grows like my Liberty haze did. I love my pog with a passion.lo

Fu ki g beauty mate. i get the same thoughts often mate. as much as i know they will be amazing once ready to smoke , watching all those months of love going in , pulled and hanging when we spent forever trying not too damage her. She will do you proud mate. your grow style is bang on here i think for this strain in comparison to how complicated my girls structure has become. Cannot wait to see your final dried bud shots of this girl . amazing work with her

I've been looking at doing my own soil recently and have been researching different methods on how to create it. It seems that it can be as difficult or as easy as you make it. I do make compost but sometimes it goes slushy so I end up having to add more brown material. Then it drys out so I add more greens. Then when I'm at work someone adds 6 carrier bags of dog shit that I don't see for a month and after that I don't feel like using it so much. I've been looking at cheating and going into the woods somewhere and digging up the forest carpet which is actually a good idea. You do give pest the opportunity to invade your home though. What I've done recently and by recently I mean yesterday is use some of my own garden dirt mixed in with some sand and a little bit of compost from the village garden waste dump that's down the road and made up a little 1ltr pots worth. I baked it in the oven to kill the potential pest and put it in a pot. I watered it with bokashi juice and dropped a bean into it to see what happens. The thing is that I didn't use a Barneys seed as I didn't want to waste any of my 5 remaining beans so I used a Purple Trainwreck. She's going to be used as a test subject over the coming months to see what I can and can't get away with concerning homemade potting mixes. I'm trying to create soil as cheaply and as quickly as possible. People who are experienced with making soils probably think I'm mad and wasting my as there are tried and tested ways to achieve potting mixes but I'll find it fun and entertaining. I'm going to treat her a bit like a house plant as well and will probably move her around the house and garden to see how stressed she gets. Anyway back to the sand. When I show you the pics of the growth on the veg plants shortly you'll see just how much they like the mix so far. They have better than average growth and look like they're retutning to a nice shade of green. I think with this mix it'll be all about the watering. It may be that I have to water them every couple hours with 500ml at a time which could be frustrating doing it manually but it'll give Mrs.F something to do when I'm at work. She'll enjoy taking a short break from the kids lol. I saw a guy in a youtube vid talking about something he called fools watering. It's when you empty a can onto a pot or bed and it appears to have soaked in nicely but when you scrape the surface it's bone dry underneath. We'll do what we have to do GG....unless it means spending money lol

Exactly as i am doing with my coco and general house waste. using so much over the last year in banana skins , tons of flowering dandelions i cultivated in my front lawn. 100's of eggshells and kitchen waste too. all mixed in with coco so i need a top soil to really churn in with it and some worms
I am convinced it will be amazing once it all mulches together. the amount of veg growing out of ot from peelings is brilliant. 5 potato , a fruiting green bean , all doing brilliant with no real soil. I did think of chucking the eco-thrive i mentioned in to mix it into double. The herd in it would surely get busy on more food to mulch. cheap as chips for a super Homemade soil that wont need nutes. Have my "Worzeling head" on now mate . Another reason to stalk you now then. Looks like i am trying to mimic your grow life mate.lol

On the watering regime for soil Prof. I read a thread about the very same thing and how Emilya can take 4 hours to water 6 plants with regular breaks to allow them to penetrate. This is why soil has me petrified to get on. a coco mix with it would stop me being able to drown everything but the right mix to hold onto nutes and life ect... is where i am a little stuck at present with my thinking. love the idea of water and wait with no frigging ph up/down to burn myself with.lol
Took a pic with you in mind prof preflowering BG41. You will love them fella. I expect great things from you following that pog and Os.

Yours are the perfect example of how well good hydro plants recover after a super heavy trim. Yours made me realise that I could go even further lol

Thanks GG! Next up we'll be having a vote on which plants go where. We need to choose 2 for a 10 gallon soil grow and 2 for the DWC pot. I'll be doing the hydro plants one at a time so we can grow some monsters. Hopefully the choice will be between the Purple Punch, Shishkaberry, Vanilla Kush and the Ayahuasca Purple. Should be good fun.
The family's all but returned to normal like werewolves after a full moon. Hope you're well buddy
