In NC, it's hickory, nothing sweeter.
Shagbark hickory is king, and strangely shagbark bark is even better than the wood.
Red oak smoke smells like dog shit when you cut it, when you split it, and even worse when you burn it, and passes it on to the grub. Yuuck! Sorry Woody.
White oak is a thing if you don't have a hickory connection, but it's not even close to the same sweetness. To me white oak is is just a wood that doesn't offend!
Depending on how you do with the BA Haze, I might send you a sample, lol!
