BakedARea's Cultivated Blessings: A Myriad Of Genetics & Shenanigans

I'm going with light stress personally.

And you are going to have some serious trees in there at harvest time. :welldone:
I'd love to know what brought you there! I think you're probably right. I wouldn't know how to tell. Nevermind thanks for the info ^ Edges turned up with burning, Thanks!

I don't know what's in your organic soil in terms of too much something or not enough something else, but if I see a plant with it's edges turned up like that and it's not a watering issue, it says light stress to me. Particularly with the burning.
The soil shouldn't be missing anything. That's what has me a little confused. Feeds every 2 weeks. But I was not watering enough for a stretch there. That definitely is a factor. At the beginning of the season, I added Kelzyme 'Element XX' which is rich in calcium and minerals. I have included it on 2 separate drenches. With the GF though, that should really be all it needs in regards to nutrients. Right?!

If light stress is all it is, that would be amazing! I am trying to stick with the process and not get too anxious and start adding anything else that I may not need to. Trusting the soil and the microbes. That is a difficult test of trust and patience.
I think you are doing fabulously!
Hey T! Thanks for swinging in. I appreciate the good vibes.

Hey 420 Mag Fam! Happy 420 Day to all! Slept in...vaped some Trainwreck again while the coffee was brewing...then some quick AM tent check. Already feeling great!

Normally I'm out the door in the mornings before everyone else is up. Even the dogs. The past few days I've had the chance to get up a couple hours later and have a chill morning. Teddy, has been getting one-on-one daddy time in the mornings. Not sharing attention to anyone and he knows it!
He's got my petting hand working OT every morning! He doesn't get my undivided attention often. But it's been good for me the past few days to have him by my side throughout the day. Either lounging by my seat getting loved on, to outside sun bathing while I'm working on the garden. Being able to medicate in the mornings and just let life go on without a specific timeline, has been wonderful.

We all have so many stories and experiences. So much of those will be lost forever when we pass on. A portion of us will always be here in the :420:community. Good and bad! The guidance available is amazing. As I sit here reflecting, I'm simply appreciative that I have a place I can come back to, whenever I can, to be a part of something important to so many. The experiences shared throughout the site is truly a testament to the fortitude of the human spirit and what this world has blessed us with. This special plant we celebrate.

Thank you cannabis for saving my life!

Time for some pictorial updates on Flip Day 3!

:circle-of-love::love:

Heeeeey!!! Look what decided to live through my shit and still pop up! Zkittles by WSE.

It is 1 of 3 seeds I germinated with the intent to have a couple plants for the outside garden. All 3 germinated, not surprised. WSE genetics have germinated every time. It is me that messes it up. I made a mistake in my planting process and with my clumsy ass. Next time, I need to just go get the proper seedling tray and holders so I don't accidentally tip one of them over. So lost one there. Then the other two were struggling to breach the surface. Mainly because of my medium. I need to use less ingredients in the seedling stage. Oh...and don't topdress the seedlings with organics that will stick together like an impenetrable wall of goodies. Dumb!

I dropped 3 Zkittles seeds and 2 Northern Lights Auto. Zkittles freebies for a contest here! And the NL freebies with some orders from last year. Both from @Weed Seeds Express ! Thanks again WSE for your sponsorship on this site.

Soaked on 4/11 in 50/50 H²O²/H²O for roughly 20 minutes. Then into the soaking vial with only water until the next day. Then into the soil they went on 4/12!

I had to do some spraying, helmet removal, and "replanting" of the seed yesterday.

I honestly was not expecting to see the seedling this stoked on life this morning. I thought for sure the "replanting" would have been too much. Once again, the strength of genetics on display.

If you take a close look at the surface, you can see the @GeoFlora Nutrients granules sticking everything together. This was a mistake on my part. This could have been mixed in with the soil and it would have been perfectly fine. I do not recommend doing it this way as it creates a difficult barrier for the seed to break through. I had to spray the surface with a little too much force to break it up every day. Ultimately, I had to go into each one to find the seed head struggling to breach.

Here is what I shouldn't have done. With combining the @DYNOMYCO , it made everything stick together. I want to be clear that there is no criticism on the products mentioned. The criticism is the methods I chose. I wanted to try something new and it failed. I mention the companies here for general insight and for others' future reference.

I was able to salvage only one of the NL autos! Right after I cleared the way for it to breach, it did but with a stuck membrane (4/16). I let her grow in the tent for one day and then put her outside the next morning. She's been outside since then. Here she is this morning! Been outside for the last couple days and nights and absolutely ready to grow under the California sun! I have two more NL autos seeds that I'd like to grow out this year. Plan is to stagger them through the season.

Speaking of sun! I have been slowly but surely prepping my raised beds for the outdoor growing season. Truly, my favorite time of year. My prep started in February with extra watering to revitalize the biology. I failed to get cover crop established this year. But I had a plan B anyway. I'm about to show and describe it here for anyone interested.

Here is a scoop of my topsoil in my raised beds. This will be year 3 of essentially a low-till or no-till in many spots. It is rich with life and nutrients.
You will notice that last year's straw mulch has done an excellent job of keeping things protected from the dry winter air and sometimes low temperatures.

Adding azomite to boost the mineral content. You need to think long-term with this amendment. 2 to 3 years out for all the biology to make it completely available for your plants. So every year, I continue to add to the overall "savings" account of minerals.

Next to the soil lasagna, it is time for some organic matter to boost everything that wants to eat. I add alfalfa pellets (organic horse feed).

Then that all gets drenched heavily. The pellets expand and create a thick mat.

This whole garden bed will be dedicated to cannabis plants this year! Last year only the GSC got a spot in this bed.

Then I also added some organic fertilizer pellets to the entire bed. Again, building up the savings account early. Right now, it is all about boosting the life and populations of the biology. This was 3/15

This is 3/27. You can clearly see the mycelium going crazy. It is like that across my entire garden beds. I water all that in at least every other day for the whole period. It wasn't until a week later that I got on hands and knees and gently broke the surface apart and worked it into the topsoil. It was time to sow some veggie seeds and get some other plants (tomatoes and herbs) into the soil.

Another project is this. I AGAIN, had to pull a shit ton of crab grass and various weeds from the open space between the trees in the garden area. It sucks and I simply cannot afford to pay someone to do it for me, every time it needs to be done. Here is the solution. Thicker plastic landscape fabric which I am not a fan of, but necessary with crab grass. I have tried the cloth fabric type and it is less effective. So then I decided to mulch with pine shavings. Hear me out. I need at least 3+" of mulch to kill off grass and weed seeds.

My intent is to eventually have this mulched area be combined with the soil underneath. It will require pulling the plastic. In the meantime, it will become a safe haven for microbes as they work on digesting everything that is about to die underneath.

After I have added a sufficient amount of pine shavings throughout the entire garden, then I will top it with cedar shavings. Ultimately acting as a natural pest deterrent too! So using the cheap stuff to build the base of mulch and the pricey stuff for the look and aroma. Then, I can slowly start adding thicker mulch to minimize the softer flakes to stick to everything anytime it is wet.

Here is a spot where I plan on growing one of the clones from the girls in the tent.

One of the Candida plants will be getting a spot in the adjacent garden bed. Probably one of the best spots in the garden.

Yesterday, I was able to get a much taller and stronger barrier installed behind where that candida will be growing. It is a trellis for a grape vine to utilize as well as tomato and cucumber. Should be amazing and beautiful in a couple months. By the time the plant reaches 4-6 feet, nobody will be able to see past the foliage of the other plants. If needed, my neighbor already told me I can come over and install a bamboo screen on the other side if it's obvious. I would prefer not to so that she can have some harvests off my plants too.

The last batch of clones, I took on 3/12. It was time to separate them since I will be giving more away to friends. Yesterday, I gave some to a buddy and was blessed with a primo delight of flower from his grow last season! Yuuuumy!

Looks like one of them did not root. No problem, into the worm bin it went.

I always add more @DYNOMYCO at every transplant.

Here is the crew this morning and looking happy.

Off I go to tackle more stuff in the garden and in life!

Happy 420 Day y'all. Peace and Blessings as always!

Interesting Baked! I've heard from a couple of places that cedar isn't something for us as a mulch. How is it that you're having luck with it I'm wondering?

What an update! Must be the most action packed one yet! Sweet! The place is coming along wonderfully! I'm so jealous of your sunshine! Mine won't be here for some time like that. You go on this awesome day of 420!

I'm not growing anything, anytime soon under that mulch. Cedar is a common landscaping mulch in many areas. Mainly decorative but when it gets damp, you get the distinctive aroma of the cedar in the air. It can take a much longer time to decompose than other mulches which is perfect and whatI prefer. These areas you see mulched are going to be walkways or where I plan to have containers on stands for other plants. Since it does take a lot longer to decompose, it is not something I use over usable soil for growing plants. I have used decorative cedar mulch in other areas around my home with good success. This will be the first time using cedar shavings though. It will make for a fluffy and aromatic playing experience for my little one too. Haaa haaa.

OMG I am exhausted just from looking at all the hard work you have put into your outside garden this year! The plants are already looking really happy just hanging around nearby, so I can only imagine how great they will look actually planted in all that organic goodness.

:bravo: and happy 420 Baked!
Thanks Shed! There is definitely a lot of hours back there that aren't documented with pictures. A bit of an overhaul in some areas for sure. Next up is the irrigation overhaul! I'll be adding t-posts soon to have available for anchoring any support system I may need for the plants. I anticipate some heavy ones this year. That soil is PRIIIIIMED!

The cabbage moths are already out in force. So BT treatments will be soon for the entire garden and hopefully curb the population. I'm still waiting on a lot of marigolds to germinate and start popping blooms. Another good deterrent around the plants from what I experienced last year. I haaaate those moths and their damned sadistic progeny!

I have a lot fewer caterpillars and moths and rot since I hung one of those caged moth zappers behind the garage! Every time it buzzes that's one less caterpillar in my flowers.
Will those work on the ones flying around during the day though?! The white moths specifically are the ones I'm always after.

Dunno but they're not expensive. They do seem to buzz during the day as well. :hmmmm:
I thought they were only functional for evening. I will have to give those a go if they work during the day too! Appreciate it. I hadn't looked at those products in depth yet. Off to Google I go...instead of being in the yard working. See what happens when I sit and listen to things Shed tells me around here? Non-productive time goes through the roof!

A quick update of the tent that is quickly becoming much too small! :nervous-guy::eye-roll:

I have a theory @InTheShed about your opinion on the light stress. All those plants were at one time, all on the right side of the tent. All one manufacturer on that side and a slightly different light output. I did not calibrate my photone app to those models. So it is entirely possible that I had those lights way too close for a lot longer than what they would have preferred. Just a theory...but it is making sense to my brain.

I got some fresh cuts off the lower nodes of the C99 clone that's been outside. No special treatment this time. I'm cloning them outdoors in my greenhouse. Dipped them in rooting hormone and loaded the cups with Dynomyco. This is them yesterday, roughly 24hrs after I took them. Looking pretty good!

Crowded for sure! Maybe move the humidifier into the middle so you can spread the plants out a bit?

If lowering the lux makes them happier, it's light stress...if it doesn't, it's not. :)
I have the humidifier close to the entrance for convenience. It's not really on too often lately anyway. I may be able to just take it out. Also, I have between 18"-24" of space to play with on the lights. I could raise them and spread the plants out some more but I want to maintain a minimum of 700 ppfd across the canopy. I still have some floor space to spread the pots out, not much though. Just waiting until they finish stretching. When they're done with that, I was thinking I could raise the lights all the way. Either way, I think I'm running out of space eventually. Lol. That AC unit is too beastly for this tent. It works wonderfully, but takes a lot of floor space.

I didn't need to run two of the Queen of Soul or the Rosetta Stone honestly. I may be chopping some branches in a couple weeks so they aren't too tight.
