BakedARea's Cultivated Blessings: A Myriad Of Genetics & Shenanigans

Hey folks. I got spanked about my personal pics in a post a few days back. Oops. I really wanted to be able to share more about me and my life outside of growing. I thought linking from the O-T gallery was ok. It really should be. I personally enjoy getting to know you all on a personal level. Doesn't mean I'll remember any details but it's nice for us to get to know each other. I think it creates a tighter community. Anyway...slightly ranting but I will be creating a personal O-T thread and whenever I have other things to share, I'll be linking to it. :eye-roll:

Lovely update BA. The picture of the Aloe leaf cut in half looks absolutely amazing. I very recently up potted an Aloe Vera plant that I was given but I haven't yet cut anything from it as I want it settle in and grow a bit first. Fingers crossed for the clones!
Thanks Stung! Yeah, I love having a dedicated aloe garden. I believe I'm at 10 cultivars of aloe now. Be sure to amend your soil with plenty of minerals and nutrients. Aloe is a bio-accumulator and can store a large amount of yumminess for us or our gardens in those pads. Have to give them time though. This pad was the first time I've cut off that plant in 2 years.
Smoothies at Baked's house! And :goodluck: with the clones.
Yuuuummmyyy!!! Phenomenal for skin and many other uses. They were looking good this morning. Been 3 days and they are standing tall on their own!
Good morning Rea :)

Hope alls good with you.

Your garden is looking bang on bruv!
Hey Trala! Thanks girlie. I'll swing by and get caught up soon. My call week started and I'll be in and out for the next week at limited intervals. Blessings.

I want to learn the aloe trade. I am currently invested solely in bamboo propagation
I'd be happy to send you pads or whole plants I have available that I have propagated. Just LMK. I know address sharing can be weird with online folks. You could start with tiny little plants from local nurseries too. I prefer my aloe in the ground. They will mine the hell out of your soil of minerals and nutrients. They are a truly amazing plant.

The other option is to get the powdered form from Build A Soil...probably the best freeze dried aloe powder on the market. I will be getting that to incorporate it into my drenches more often. Less pressure on my aloe for garden use and save them for personal use.

I don't think you're Jeffery Dahmer. I think it's ok and very much appreciated!

What about for me, in the actual 4 seasons. How do I take care of it out of seasoned? Do I transplant and bring it inside?

I'm for both personal and cannabis use of aloe so I can certainly try some powdered, also.

Thanks so much Baked! Also, I'm loving using my Photone app! Thanks so much for that, too!

Although possibly Charlie Manson

Ohhh... you mean not everyone here is in California?!
J/k - yes, it can be done. I would use a transparent (thick) plastic to protect from freezing. Or build a mini-greenhouse with opaque panels that you can annually put over the plant. It will not die. They are TOUGH!!!

AMEN! It is an incredible plant. I grow 2 extra plants just for my neighbor so she can have access to fresh pads whenever she wants them. She uses it for her beauty routine.

You're welcome. I'm glad it is helping. Have you dialed it in to the manufacturer par/ppfd chart? Remember to do that and you should easily be withing 5-10% accuracy of the factory specs. I have checked my calibration a few times just to make sure everything is close enough. LMK if you need help.

You are the BEST! Grazie mille!

Heeeeey now!!! A big thanks to @Weed Seeds Express for sending me an awesome 12 pack of Zkittlez for a contest win! So stoked! As a thank you for their amazing support of our community, I am going to dedicate a spot in my tent during the next flowering cycle for one of theze beautiez. I will also be replacing a couple plants in the outdoor garden to include a couple WSE genetics. I'm thinking Zkittles & probably an Alpine Star CBD

Not an officially sponsored grow but they deserve to be showcased for everything they do for us. So get used to getting tagged in this journal WSE.

I will still be growing some of the freebies I got from @GardenofGreen Seedbank too! They seriously hooked it up with A LOT of variety!

I'll find some time soon to revamp my tent and garden layout. After I get a better layout and plan, I'll post it up.

Ohhhh, and look what else came in today! Woooo!!! Thank you @Remo Nutrients for your amazing support of our community!
:passitleft:This stuff has been in my sights for quite some time. I'm really looking forward to showcase everything you have to offer. As soon as I am in a position to give it a go, I will reach out to ensure I'm doing things correctly. This is quite the care package.

Another HUGE thank you to @Sierra Natural Science for continuing to prove their worth with products like this! Your support in thus community does not go unnoticed. Your base of loyal growers is growing! Thank you for making your presence known here. So proud to have you here in my hometown. Local business for the win!

Thank you again to @420 and the entire staff for all your hard work that we never see and so easily take for granted. You guys rock! Many thanks to @Renee Roberts for coordinating and getting our goodies to us with these contests. You are amazing!

Well, it's been only a few minutes here and a few minutes there with the plants. The past couple days have been just monitoring and mostly hands off. I knew they needed a drink yesterday so I opted to wait until lights on (10pm). A couple of them were definitely showing signs of stress. I let them go 1 day too long. Not a biggie but I'm doing everything possible to keep stress at a minimum.

So C99#1 & both RS #1 & #2 were showing the most stress. I noticed the bottom soil around the drainage looked dry.
The others weren't looking stressed but were light enough that they would have shown it most likely by morning. So they all got a drench. It consisted of yucca extract (1tsp/gal) and SNS209 (8mL/gal). I opted to use a sprayer this time to help me slow down my drench. I only sprayed 1/2 gallon of the drench. Then I followed it up this afternoon with the rest of my drench mix. Now for pics from the past couple days until this afternoon. Missing a lot of points or thoughts I wanted to share at this point.

AM Check

PM Check

Foliar rinse with drench water and then a botanical essential oil foliar before lights out.

Lights out!

Good night everyone. Going to try and take a nap.

Amazing sea of green! And I took a nap today. :)
Thanks buddy! Unfortunately, my nap extended until my tent "lights on" alarm at 10pm!
:oops::oops::oops:

Then couldn't sleep until close to 2 AM. Screwed my sleep cycle and now extra tired! Boooo. Oh well. I'll get back on track sometime next week.

Some "quick" thoughts about the plants and about today's scheduled task specifically. The plants (except the autos & clones) were due for a GeoFlora topdress today. But they needed a good drench on Fri. On Fri, I made the decision to forego the topdress today knowing they wouldn't be dry enough yet. And I could have topdressed on Fri but didn't have the time to get it done and drench. So I opted to wait.

The GF granules needs a fair amount of moisture to get the feeding process started. If you're not keeping it moist, then you can run into problems. The microbes and worms don't like it dry! I found that out the hard way last year with the GSC. I ended up with a couple layers of GF that ended up being more of a mulch and didn't ever break down. Big problem for hungry plants!

So this round, my plan was to topdress and then cover with worm castings. A double bang of goodness and keeps the GF granules under a layer of "mulch" to maintain a higher moisture level. That planned worked great a couple weeks ago. Some of the plants have space for that extra layer and a few of them don't though. My mistake for not executing my plan. Inconsistency is a common trait for me. Some of my transplants were higher than others.

Plan is to topdress Tue or Wed when they will need a other drench. I will be scooping out some topsoil from the pots that I have filled too much to make room for fresh GF and backfill it with what I scooped out. Hopefully that makes sense.

Another task I was originally planning was flipping rooted clones to determine sex. I am already at week 6 with the seeds I dropped. The plants probably could have had clones taken a few weeks back but the timeline and process just isn't making sense to me. Originally, it seemed feasible. But now, it just seems like a waste of time for my level of anticipated production. Seems easier to just grow them out and let them show me their sex on their timeline. Then clone or trash as needed. Also, the BG genetics are known for being very stable and with almost no phenotype differences. So I don't have to be too critical about getting clones should I find a plant I really enjoy. I should be able to just drop more seeds if I want to. That saves a lot of space for other mother plant genetics. Plus I just don't have the space at the moment for a flowering and veg tent. Where would I even flip clones (if they were rooted) right now? I simply don't have the space. So my overly optimistic plan is going to have to slow down and get dialed back.

BT ( :rip: ) had a thread all about using clones to determine sex:

I think he used a cooler or something!

These responses started a few hours ago...
I REAAAAAALLY wish I could be :smokin2::smokin2:right about now...
As much as anything else, a purely educational experience
For the foreseeable future, everything I do is an educational experience. Love it! It will mean inconsistent results but sometimes I need to fall on face on my own (with all of you here to watch) so that it sinks into my brain.

Sad to hear he passed away Shed. What happened?
The idea is to push into at least some indication of what the donor plants sex is, as soon as possible.
the end goal is to create an easy quick way to determine a plants sex long before it shows any signs. If growing multiple plants in the same tent then even better to eliminate the males early and create more room for females.
This is/was my goal too. The timeline just doesn't seem to be worth the time and effort at this point.
I'm on my first photo grow so I have no experience yet,
Sounds like a lot of humbling experience in the past 4 years amigo! We are blessed to have you here in this community.

Once I start growing and after they have gotten to the 3-4 week point, I'm thinking some early sexing by using clones will eliminate the extra effort being put into a plant that will be male. It will also open some room up in the grow space earlier on when very important.
See. This is what I was thinking but it just doesn't make sense to me anymore.

Let's say I took clones 3 weeks ago. They may take 1-3 weeks to root enough to pot up and then let them recover for a day or two. After that, flip them and wait how long to get sex confirmation? 2 weeks? So let's say best case scenario to determine sex is 2 weeks (1 week to root and 1 to flip). The original plant is already at 5 weeks. 1-3 more weeks and they could potentially tell me on their own right?

So unless I need/want clones anyway, it seems to not be a benefit. At least that's what my logic is currently processing. If I'm thinking about this incorrectly, please slap me and help me.
Aeroponics is an actual thing! Cloninator is something Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb would have named it!
:laugh::rofl::laugh::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
You have NO idea how happy this gem of a quote made me earlier! I love Dr. Doofenshmirtz. I call one of my pups a "stinky, spoiled rotten, dumb ole, good for nothing Doofenshmirtz."
I mean it absolutely sarcastically of course, but either way he gets the Doofenshmirtz nickname which fits him perfectly!!!

Hey girlfriend :)

Looking good! Really good!

(I still haven’t forgiven you for being a boy)
Heeeeeey girlie! I haven't forgiven myself for waking up as a boy this morning either. I was hoping for woman boobs to play with all day. Oh well...off to work without boobs...
I need to pray for something else I guess.

They perked up from the last watering. And I need to do some lower canopy pruning.

I'm losing track of days and what I've uploaded and posted. Urgh.

2/20

The sad looking C99 #1 is perking up already. This was the day after a drench.

2/21 AM & PM
