Babygirl’s Sour Livers DWC Hydro Grow Journal, November 2021

I’m going to start mixing my nute water for the DWC bucket in a little bit. But I just thought of something. Obviously I only want 1/4 strength NUTES in the water. But for the Hydroguard, rooting enhancer, and +life, should those go in at FULL strength since they don't change the PPM? I mean those are things to keep the water properly conditioned so that the nutes can feed the plant.

Thoughts? Or am I off base here?

Nope u in spot!!! Just remember one thing don’t over think it !!!! N I learned in hydro keep things simple n things go smooth I’m sure ur goin to crush dwc

Thanks Jack! It just hit me is all. I was thinking - “Hang on, if I only put 1/4 strength of those in for the water, then the water may not be as “healthy” as I want it to be.”

Well, Here we go folks! “Liv” is in her forever home!

Picture taken just before I connected the drip ring, which is set for 15 minutes every 4 hours.

Tent temp: 74F
Humidity: 57%
Res temp: 68F
PPM: 300-310
pH: 5.2 (mine always seems to drift up over 24 hours, so I’ll let it start at the lower end and by tomorrow it will likely be around 6.0-6.2)

If you rinse your hydroton well then soak it overnight in water ph 5.8 it will help control the drift
I’ll keep that in mind for the next bucket! With as much trouble as I’ve had getting this seed going, I really dont wanna step backwards and risk killing her. (And with my last grownI noticed that the swing was worse in the beginning and became less of an issue as time went by.)

So if the water level drops overnight (i.e., due to evaporation at this point obviously), tomorrow I should top off with just pH’d water to bring the water level just back up to the net pot - correct (and continue until res change which will be in 8-9 days as I will be doing res changes on Sundays)?

With two four inch airstones in each bucket I’d imagine the water could drop an inch or two and you’ll still have plenty of bubbles popping that will splash up onto the bottom of the net pot. Topping off every day with ph’d water won’t hurt though. Just make sure your water level is at least an inch below the net pot when the buckets full. Like jack said keep it simple. DWC is a lot more work than the way I typically grow now but it’s a great way to learn the basics of hydro.

Ok - but I was told that the water level should be AT the bottom of the net pot until the roots reach down into the water and at that point to drop it 1-2 inches below (think it was @Rexer that told me that?).

That is beautifully photographed :)

Just below the pot, the airstones should splash the net cup :)

Post in thread 'Starting water level in DWC?' Starting water level in DWC?

Tx for straightening me out @Rexer !

Although it’s recommended to refresh the reservoir periodically, you may find yourself changing the reservoir when the TDS has fallen to a certain point, which may turn out to be sooner than weekly. Don’t lock up your Sundays.

Edited to note that it wasn’t my intention to come off so pompous :eye-roll:

Well, maybe just a little..

:laughtwo:

Lol - thanks T!

Nah - I know thats definitely a possibility!

Looking good I usally set my water right under net pod not touching it but with bubbles it splash on it keeping it moist !!!!

Just caught up, and thanks for the link! DAMN you're organized. I LOVE that. Love the super clean tent setup too, and really really love the level of detail in your opener. So a little seed trouble, big deal, you are jamming now. Liv, eh? Does the name have any significance?

Good luck! I'll be checking you out! Thanks again for the link.
