Lol, I keep thinking I should try coco!
It's the ph thing that's kept me from it. Although now that I think of it, they say the same thing about hempy 🤨🤔
Hey, maybe we should do a joint grow sometime! I'll grow one plant in coco and you grow one in hempy.
That's a brilliant idea Mel, wouldn't that be interesting 🤔

I think a bunch of people have exaggerated the importance of Ph-ing nutrients when growing in coco. I grew for 6 years in coco without ever even owning a ph pen.

I do the ph testing now with every feed because I'm trying to test differences at different ph.
I've run different groups at 5.8, all the way up to 7.0 minimal difference

My personal opinion of people with "ph problems" when their plants are struggling, are actually overfeeding & overwatering. Nothing to do with ph at all

Just my 2 pennies
:passitleft:

I was going to wait until I had sprouts, but I got impatient.
For this journal I'm planning to grow Cherry Bomb and GSC, both sourced from @Herbies Seeds
Tent: 120x60x200cm (2x4x6.5 feet)
Lights: 2x @VIVOSUN Aerolight A100SE
Exhaust: @VIVOSUN Aerozesh 10cm (4")
Nutrients: Mega Crop 1-part from @Greenleaf Nutrients
Medium: 3.5 litre perlite hempy

I'll post the strain info when I'm sure I have a sprout of both. This is my only GSC seed, so if it doesn't pop I'll have to choose a backup.
The lights and fans are controlled by a @VIVOSUN GrowHub A42E, but it's currently restricted to off-line mode until further notice.

I think that's all for now. As always, feel free to ask questions or post comments!
Merry Samhain!
Hey Mel !
Just poppin in, I’m a bit late but gonna read thru and catch up…..I’ll take a seat somewhere !

:D

So, should we do the same strain, or would that feel too much like a competition?

:thumb:
Not a competition Mel, we have totally different setups/goals

I'm all about max bud from compact plants in small pots [5-10L?] - maybe we should both use same size pots to level up the comparison? I aim for 1oz per Litre of coco, maybe that would be a better measure?
I'd prefer to grow something I'm familiar with and know is manageable in my space - PGC for example was a nightmare whereas Green Crack Auto was a doddle

Plenty of time for a feasibility study, my current run has around 8 weeks left to go

I don't own a ph pen either. I'm thinking I'll just treat it like every other medium I've grown in, and see what happens.

Welcome!
My thoughts exactly ! Really cool
I was really surprised when I saw it in a journal by @bluter so when I decided to try switching from soil I started looking into it.
Getting to reuse the perlite instead of buying new bags every run and disposing of the soil is a big bonus!
Plants are looking great Mel, nice and healthy !
Great thread and very interesting stuff, I just learned a lot reading this Thanks

I’ll be around
Thanks Sniper!
Glad to have you along!

Sure thing!
These pots are 3.5 litres, and the pot I'm using in the Pink Rozay journal is 8 litres, so I'll drop by the dollar store and try so find something that's actually labeled, lol.
Hmm, I have Blueberry and Blueberry auto seeds, how about one of those?

Blueberry Auto is good, I ran Blue Dream last year and it was excellent so I'm happy to grab some fresh beans for a spring grow - which breeder?

The pH thing - I premix distilled water and pH Down 10:1, measure it once then just add [say] 2-3ml of that to the mix, I don't check it every time and it's way easier than trying to add a few drops to get to exactly pH5.8, anywhere around 6.0 is fine

The breeder for the Blueberry autos is 00 Seeds, and I bought them from the Man with Seeds when he was a sponsor.
I just checked and @Herbies Seeds has them, but I'm not sure which seedbank you prefer.

Usually use @CoffeeShopSeeds, @The Vault or Attitude [UK] so I do have access to 00, last run with them was Chocolate Skunk XXL, which was impressive
I'll take a look around

Day 26

While I'm not really a big proponent of defoliation, and I really like when plants have those huge fan leaves, I'm thinking I'll have to trim some of them. Especially Cherry Bomb.
There are some areas where they're laying on the new growth of the side branches, and moisture is accumulating.
It'll also make the first stages of training easier.

The Gorilla auto I grew in the summer of 2023 was also from 00, and it turned out quite well. A really nice berry flavour in the vape, and a good strong stone without being excessively disorienting.

Day 27
Today I started training these two. It didn't really feel right to clip those leaves, but I've seen plants come back from worse 😬
First, the before pics.

And now, the aftermath.

I also got a pic of a leaf from Cherry Bomb in natural light.

So there you have it, the initial stages of training for these two girls.

Wow! ❤️ That's some tight node spacing!
Not as tight as I thought, now that I can see them more clearly. And especially on Cherry Bomb!

Edit: I also fertigated them today with 1g/litre Mega Crop, fortified with mag nitrate. And that last pic of Cherry Bomb was taken as the fan hit her, I didn't notice she was blurry until I uploaded it. Won't happen again.

Nice looking plants.
Those fan leaves were like a huge beach umbrella on those young plants. LOL :rip:fanny's

Defenetally cleaned up nice now watch them explode with growth

Day 28
Looks like they've recovered nicely. We'll see how long it takes them to outgrow this phase of training. Hopefully not too long, but it looks like GSC isn't planning on spreading out much, lol.

Thanks LC!
Lol, yeah, they were a bit excessive for such young plants, but I usually like to let them grow into them.
Just another area where outdoor and indoor practices collide.

Thanks con!
It wouldn't be a Melville grow without excellent scaffolding!
Probably doesn't meet OHSA standards!
