Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

Of the five coco autos, three are potted and two are coco and hydro. I’m gonna use the Cyco with the hydro feed chart in one of the two buckets, and one of the potted plants. 2 Cyco, 3 Remo, 4 GeoFlora semi organics. And everyone (not the soil, lol) begins with Prescription Blend until my Core A and B runs out.

What ppm are you going to run Cyco at

All 14 of my seeds sunk, if you put any stock in that. Some do. I do not. My seeds almost always pop whether they sink or not.
They don't need to sink as you said, in fact I preferred mine not to. And if they did I poured out much of the water so they'd have better access to O2, though I don't soak them anymore, preferring to go right to soil.

Some people think the viable ones will sink, but all that really means is that the seed has absorbed enough moisture to overcome buoyancy. And, of course, absorbing moisture is important for germination.

But in nature seeds don't generally sprout in the bottom of a deep puddle but rather in the moist and airy environment of leaf litter or the top 1/2 inch of moist spring soil so that seems like more of the environment to replicate. Hence why the paper towel tek seems to work so well, even though that's not why farmers use it. Instead they use it to determine germination rates for large batches of seeds they intend to plant in the field to determine how dense to plant for good coverage.

Also, I don't think most of them rely on the pink tutu's, but then again they're pros with mostly lots of experience.

I hadn’t gotten that far yet. Gotta study the feed chart more. I have til the roots poke through the bottom to figure it out though.

My first two seeds to ever sink. I left them in for just over 2 hours though. Normally 60-90 minutes.

Most have tails out already looks like so off to buy a fresh bag of potting soil. They’ll be in dirt in a little over 12 hours I reckon.
You got tails in a couple hours? That’s never happened to me. I soak for 24 hours. Mine just hit the towels. No tails. Like always.

So, this afternoon then?

What are you saying, you're already behind?!? o_O:eek:

Edit:
Apologies for that last comment as I did not revisit the contest rules before posting. But we're allowed to shit talk too, right? Not just you and Nick, or no? :hmmmm:

Edit (the second):
After having revisited the rules I now see they are silent on the matter and therefore, since not specifically prohibited, are allowed by rule. Carry on.

So in dirt 3-4 hours back. Two not really showing anything, one each of BBMR and OGK - guess what? The two that sank were one of each. & Co reckons they’ll be ok. The rest tails of 1”-1.5” a good length. She just cracks the husks off with tweezers now before the seedling substrate we use. It gets a 1ml/litre of Cal Mag rinse before we plant. The covers will remain on loosely until morning (14 hours away) at the latest. I may take them off before bed tonight.

No we only soak for 90 minutes max normally. We get tails within 24 hours of putting them into soak when they’re in paper.

I chopped down a bunch of bananas like these this morning, same tree.

I’ve put them around the seed(lings) as an offering to the Gods - offering them the rich bounty of fruit to protect my plants.

So far:

OG Kush 4/5
Bubba Kush 7/7
Blackberry Moonrocks 2/3

I’m still in with a shout of matching @Bill284 and his 15/15!

Do you know about the conversation Shed and Captain Lucky have been having about using bananas to hasten the germination of old seeds? It's some chemical / gas or something. Interesting. Such a coincidence that your offering to the cannagods is bunches of bananas. Apt.

Yep 😊
Bugger - wish I read that far. Off to chop down some Papaya from the back garden - bananas were closer

Bananas give off low dose ethylene gas as they ripen and degrade, apples and pears even more so. You need to ferment a hefty amount for weeks to make any noticable difference in a closed environment.

Low dose GA3, gibberellic acid is what's typically used to sprout old seeds.

Cheers!

Is that the trick, bananas? ;)
I feel like we haven't talked in ages, my fault. :Namaste:
Just about recovered, takes longer at my age.
Only thing I can cut down and offer is pine cones.
Will they work?

Stay safe

Lmao! @Azimuth, we really only have one rule: don’t be an asshole. We’re going for the fun and positive thing here. That most definitely includes shit talking, I’d be disappointed if you didn’t. Of course, you of all people should know one of the mathematical principles of shit talking, so you don’t embarrass yourself. The principle goes like this:

The impact of one’s shit talking is directly proportional to the degree to which we have actually seen said person’s plants.

So sure Azi, shit talk away! And obviously we will too.

Glad to see you @Bill284, and whatever you got works. I’m sure your pine cones dust mine. Lol.

Papaya - all but two popped so far. Its more the life time of enhanced growth and disease protection in the studies CL mentioned and Shed linked to.

Maybe its nothing but every little helps!

I’m gonna crack the last two they don’t show.
This is the sorta thing I was talking about when I said I took on the wrong guy. Tails in hours and sprouts out of dirt in a day plus. Jeesh. Professional grower tricks. Only an idiot like me would take on a guy who grows for a living. I’ll hit the dirt tomorrow, almost all mine are cracked. I like to wait on a half inch of tail before they hit the dirt.
