Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

Anyone who wants to barely understand the legality of growing here (I live here and I’m struggling!) Anyway read that!

need more info on this because I was going to build my "tent" out of panda film.

@Bill284

Point #3 Post #1

uPVC pipe and like a 8mm (I think) fire retardant silver insulation would do it - problem the "tent" is - is it going to go on the kitchen table still Carmen?

If not then what @abosrber says.

Oh wait!

Some of the best roof top tents in the world. - for putting on top your Land Rover or Toyota truck are made in, out near the airport in Cape Town. Hannibal Tents -

That was mine. I met the owners, still got their contacts. I've thought about it before - getting them to make a grow tent, or help me source material.

I’m getting ready to watch a documentary on Netflix about the pot industry in Thailand 🇹🇭 called, wait for it - Highland.. Are you gonna be Narrating it Nick? lol 😂 CL🍀

3- do not put panda film near any heat source or possible source of ignition
panda film is flammable and produces toxic smoke it will spread the fire everywhere.
I won't grow photoperiod at this time because of loadshedding but when I do, my plan is to make a concertina frame to put around the plant and a cover piece. The only time it would be used is lights out. My grow lights wouldn't be near it. I've done similar before with black bin bags, and I thought panda film was an upgrade.

Right now we have no loadshedding at all because we are approaching an election and the powers that be would prefer us to think they have solved the problem. They are making it worse by burning our diesel stocks to keep the lights on. We will be back to loadshedding the minute the elections are over.

Tents are cheap these days you could probably get a 3ftx 3ft cheaper than the same amount of panda film and framing or a 4ft x 4ft tent.
My entire apartment is 62m square. I have two rooms in the apartment. One for sleeping and ablutions (closet), and one for cooking, working and chilling. It's in the second room that I grow, on top of a table. I have no floor space anywhere for a tent and if I put one on the table top I will block the light from the windows which is necessary for my mental wellbeing.

I still think the concertina frame will work fine but I am now concerned about the panda film. Fire retardant insulation sounds like quite an outlay.

Thanks for the creative ideas!

Good morning Carmen. :ciao:
If possible I'd avoid the plastic sheeting.
It went up in flames in seconds right before my eyes.
The toxic smoke was thick & black, I barely made it out of the house.
It'll ignite anything it drips on.
We do the best we can with what we have :Namaste: I understand.
Just want you to be safe and aware of the possible issues.
Hope it works out.
Loadshedding? Is that a power shut down? Or like a brown out half power?
Hope you had a great weekend. :passitleft:
Take care.

Stay safe

Is your studio where you live, or is it a holiday home?

I concur on panda film. Too many horror stories about fires, coming unstuck, dropping, being ineffective to insulate the tent, etc.

A 10 metre by 90cm roll of this stuff is about $7 here. its flame retardant will melt but not burn?
They also make it in styrofoam backed panels, like 8’x4’, and available at any Lowe’s or Home Depot. Relatively inexpensive and has the super added benefit of actually insulating the space, thus making it way easier to control the environment. The panels may work better for your purposes, idk. But they’re easy. Just cut them to size with an exacto knife or some blade that’s sharp. If you have curves to negotiate, the stuff Nick showed is advantageous, but for static walls, perhaps the panels are better?

Root Porn

This is always one of my favorite posts, cuz nothing brings the maxim home like a photo montage.

Big roots = Big fruits.

This is immutable.

So how’d we do with the two Gorilla Cookies in the root department? And how’d the first auto harvested in a 10 of coco I ever tried do? Before this grow the biggest pot I had used for autos was a 7. I wasn’t sure whether or not an auto could actually fill a 10 with roots. And I was way curious to get my first really good look at the hydro root ball and pot (3 gallon AirPot up top of a five gallon bucket with 4” airstone).

Here’s how we did:

The native people of Southwestern Florida were known to often take the scalps of their victims right after they were sacrificed, so as to increase the drama and wonder to the population with the visual of the dripping blood. It was a very effective primitive control mechanism, not unlike organized religion today.

Thanks Bill and Nick! I'd hate to have something like that. What a nightmare.

This is a great looking idea. What is this stuff called. I wonder if I can get hold of it here.

You once said something very complimentary about my hands and then blushed. I'm returning the compliment and saying the same about your arms :battingeyelashes:

I love a good rootopsy and you weren't kidding about dem roots!

So distracted I forgot to congratulate you on the harvest. How many more have you got to go? I lose track on this scale lol.

I don’t know the name but lemme see.

Geez, thank you so much @Carmen Ray, and now I’m blushing again. See next post for the what’s left question!

Phew! Finally got all the garbage out of the tent and set it up proper for the finish. We have four left to harvest with the two Gorilla Cookies both hanging. The three together are all days away but despite their dark colors still have tons of half filled trichs at the moment. They look ready but they’re not. And the Apple Monster, I mean Fritter, will bring up the rear. She has a ways to go and is a long long auto.

Here’s the new digs, from both sides of the tent.
