Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

Hey goofyfoot welcome to the auto family haha I am just about wrapped up with my first autoflower. I have grown outdoor for many years and decided to run autoflower to fill a gap and try new strains. I would suggest going with LED instead of CFL. I started mine with CFL and swapped to LED it was probably the same price as my cfl setup but so much less hassle and ive noticed a slight yeild increase. I do still use a couple cfl for spot lighting and when training you can look at my journal if you need any info Im here to help along with everyone else here.

Thanks for the advice and I will stay in touch. I have heard that LED's have made some strong improvements in the last two years. At this time what I have invested in the CFL's will have to do. And the bulbs are almost new. So why spend money when I still have a grow and a half left in them. It will be something to consider when that bridge comes to cross. If I run them all at the same time I will be pushing close to 600 watts. As I was not doing Auto's just feminized full duration. You do have timed cycles and blue(veg) and red spectrum(flower) needs. So I have 1 250w 6K 1 250 2.7K and 3 105w 5K bulbs. The last 3 are from my buddy who does photography. He uses them for his set lighting and said they are a close to natural light as he can get. He buys them in bulk packs so the price is cut in half.

So one of my questions was should I run both spectrum's at the same time. As I have no clue the spectrum or on/off times or even if there are any!! For Auto's that is. Or have a dual timer switch to start at 6K for 12 hours and finish the day at 2.7K ?? These are the elements I am looking for and only learned over time figuring out indoor growing. I also heard you should not change your wattage or duration's or lights on time as you would get Hermie's. I always did and never had one freak. I said if they where outside and it was cloudy for two days or no sun and raining, why does this not effect all outside plants to??

I'm growing one Jack Herer (Rest in peace kind sir) Fem Autoflower under 1200 watts (equivalent and 276 actual watts) compact spiral CFL. I got half 6500K and half 2500K bulbs. My lights are about two feet up from the plant. I'm no pro but I'm guessing the little bit of stretch I'm getting is very helpful. No parts of the plant seem to be in shade and I have some nice stems to train. I won't be changing the lighting other than switching from 18/6 to 12/12 when it starts to flower. And my lighting only cost $50 all together (bulbs and fixtures) so I got that going for me at least.

I thought the extended darkness may help the flowering... hormones and all that. And I don't want to get any closer to the lights, I'm pushing 31 C for temps at the plant. Any hotter and I will retard growth. I'm making amazing progress so far for 15 days from seed.

After quite a bit of adversity, my two Jack Herer's are flowering nicely now..

30x18x30 tent with 300w led, 3 gal pots and 3 cfls that I turn on and off depending on the heat. We're going 20/4.

Water/feed a gallon every 4-5 days.

65 days old

J1 on the left had very little done. J2 was topped and LST'd.

OK guys, some of you have seen me around, and just to let the rest know.....im new!
ive got some questions if you don't mind?, and any help will be appreciated.

first question is feed, or flush?, these are revolver from crop king, and in there 11th week from seed, not sure if you can see it in the pic, but fans are yellowing, buds look pretty tastey, and im really not in a hurry, however if its time to flush, id like to know.
I see lots of threads on when to harvest, but not a lot on when to start the flush?

and also, would this be foxtailing?

the only reason I ask, is Id like this to be as smooth as possible.....its my second grow, and the first was harsh, and really wasn't that flavourfull.....I blame the flush!

looking at the pics, they still look plenty green.....but the fans are yellowed to past the halfway point of the plant.

I'd say you have some time. I don't even check trichromes until all the white hairs have receded. Looks like you have a lot of white,, that's a sign she's still growing. Looks awesome, but I'd hang on. Have you looked at trichs? Yellowing of fans late in bloom is normal. I don't see to many from the pic,,, hang on...
