What are your thoughts on extreme defoliation at week 3 of flowering? Nearly all fan leaves (except for 2 at the top of each stem) removed. I've seen a few vids that show some sweet results...

Leaves are solar panels, more so during flowering. It seems to be 50/50 in the grow community. A little difol at the bottom probably wouldn't hurt, I do it for scrog nearly always. But anything that's a good fan leaf is best left to suck up those rays.
Try tucking the leaves behind stems to expose more heads, is always nice to see those shining through.
Have you done any LST? Now is a good time for that. If you really have the urge to snip away, maybe look into topping the plant.
I'm sure there is someone around who has done it, but I can't say I have tried it.
Strain / grow details / pics would be sweet!

hello everyone!

so im planning my next grow, ill be planting seedlings in 500ml pots then im wanting to do this aswell as clay pebles around the 500ml pot aswell so really its 500ml of coco in 18L pots with the rest clay pebbles, will this work?

i can never seem to plant in rockwool cubes for some reason, they never survive.

ill be using 2 wilma 4 pot systems.

thanks!

Theres a good journal running at the moment with a premixed clay balls / coco medium. It's mixed to be more coco than clay balls though(60/40).

The idea will definitely work, would work well with a continuous flow system or even in a DWC. From the looks of the diagram, you wouldn't want to leave it without watering for very long.
Good luck, interested at seeing the results!

I'm not good at phrasing questions. plants start blooming around here at about August, so I want them to grow in veg. state, till then. You think they'll revert to veg. if I stick them outside now?? Our last frost date is June 1st. !! LOL !! So I'm assuming that they will need to revert back to veg, then start blooming in August ??
Reveg has been wierd this year cuz the weather we had.my reveg's always seemed to take about a month to straighten back out

I knocked my fan today and knocked off a bottom leaf and pushed her around a little. I hope she recovers, I almost broke down.
Or cut a straw in half and slide that around the stem and tape the straw.....6 in one hand half a dozen in the other....she should be fine with what uou did

thanks for the reply buddy!

i was planning on feeding for 10 mins every 2 hours on the feeders, that way the roots will never really dry out?

Only one way to find out really ! Haha, ill sub in and see how it works out for you. Sounds like it could make some monsters.
Continuous flow would really be cool though, no real need to turn the feeder off with clay balls or coco. May perhaps result in less maintenance / calibrating overall as well.

Your plant that the fan fell on will most likely be just fine my big bud is breaking branches underweight and has broke its main stem and is still surviving I don't even think she noticed that she broke the main stem there's a hole all the way through it

Do you have a journal on your big bud?....im getting ready to throw one into 12/12

If you are curious about extreme defoling then you should ask on the extreme defole threads.

Im not saying this to be a smartass The reason im saying this is because the growing community seems to be divided on their opinions on defole. If you ask on here then most likely you will have people talk about how the leafs are solar panels and store nutrients and so on and so on. Which in my experience can have you second guessing yourself. I have seen defole with great results and defole with not so great results but if you want to truly experiment to find what works best FOR YOU then stand firm to not let the people with different opinions deter you

Its personal choice, i tend not to defol if i can keep from it. I just trimmed a little bottom growth but that will be all the trimming i do. Experiment with 1 plant and see how it turns out for you.

So I'm torn....I have a 3x3x6.5 tent. Rite now I have two 300wled's and a 150w hps.

I want to upgrade my lighting but dont know what to get.

They say the footprint of a 400w hps is 3x3 and the footprint for 600w hps is 4x4.

Now I don't know if I should try for the 600w hps or a 400w hps and still keep the led's in there if I can manage the heat.

My question is in a 3x3 tent would 600w be to much light for the plants to absorb or would it just make for better yields.

Or should i try for the 400 hps with the led panels just for the different spectrums. Or should I opt for just the 400 by itself

Ive heard that hps and led combined create results closest to natural sunlight
This intenze grow 800 LED has been a huge addition to my arsenal. .....FYI.
